Haha, funny.
in all seriousness I need to hear The Incident. Left it way too long.

Ænima
lateralus > aenema > 10,000 days >>> undertow, personally
10,000 days is good but it's not nearly as memorable as the forementioned. undertow is something different until the next 3 albums came along, but it's still neat
I prefer Aenema to Lateralus I think, I find Lateralus gets a bit difficult to listen to by the last couple of tracks
Apparently Jesus Christ Superstar is considered prog or is at least on progarchives.com so I am just going to put these up, I think the movie cast are better singers than the album cast, but I think the album has way better background track. Well I love both for their own reasons.

Trial Before Pilate is in all sorts of crazy time signatures, so maybe that counts...

Great musical/rock opera either way though.
I haven't listened to a single tool album
yeah so shoot me
to confess myself i've yet to actually give gentle giant a shot
i'd highly recommend tool, as they're the first progressive rock band i ever liked (if not one of the first few bands i ever got into)
I have lots of Gentle Giant music and its so out there that i just cannot get into it
Stuff like Raconteur Troubadour are songs that i just cannot like, then there's stuff like Wreck which is so fun to listen to

Some gentle giant is really catchy and fucking genius, some of it is a lot harder to get into. I find when I am listening to an album and I am doing something else I don't really mind the weirder shit, but when im just listening to the album I have to sometimes skip to the songs I can bare, even though GG is one of my favorite bands.

PFM owns
They certainly do
Anyone know The Tangent? Awesome band with Theo Travis in it on flute. Used to have Roine Stolt from The Flower Kings on guitar and vocals, and David Jackson from Van Der Graaf Generator on sax. They both left unfortunately. Awesome group though.

I haven't listened to a entire Porcupine Tree album, nor tool.

I used to be able to recite Porcupine Tree's discography in chronological order and knew every song on it...probably still could recite the albums if I tried really hard
I could still recognise all songs from Stupid Dream onwards, but I'm a bit hazy on Signify and haven't listened to On the Sunday of Life
Nowadays its Steven Wilson's solo stuff for me. Bit sick of Porcupine Tree at the moment
It's funny, I've had the discography of Tool for at least a year and a half, and I never really listened to much after Undertow, aside from specific songs. Some of their stuff seems a bit... pretentious, I suppose. That's saying a lot, considering Prog Rock is somewhat a pretentious genre in and of itself, and it generally doesn't bother me.
Listened to The Mars Volta's first album a few times. The first time through the vocals felt a bit generic to me, but going back through and focusing more on it, the lead singer is fairly dynamic in his singing. It almost has the appeal of the instrumentation of prog rock, while the vocals remind me a bit of those characteristically emo bands like Taking Back Sunday or whatever it's called. It almost sounds like a bad thing, but it was the lyrical content in bands like that that lacked, while it's superb here. It feels so modern in the vocals, and yet the album came out years ago.

De-loused is fantastic, but you should definitely give Frances the Mute a listen, and then Amputechture.
Each of their albums have quite a different sound. And Cassandra Gemini on Frances the Mute is 30 minutes of awesome.
I'm listening to all sorts of new bands. Listening to Godbluff right now, and it's one of the best things I've ever heard.
I'll check out more Volta later, mainly because they're one of very few progressive rock bands that are a) still playing and b) still playing in areas where I can travel to for concerts.

On that note, they toured with Soundgarden last year and had a venue in Vegas.
All my sadness that I did not know about them then.
de-loused to this day sounds like someone brought it back from a time machine to the future. i honestly will feel that way about it for a while.

Do you guys think this band qualifies as prog?
No?

Nevermind me, just bumping.
That's brilliant, I seem to notice a bit of a jazzy influence.
Speaking of lesser known bands, let me introduce a band close to my heart for the third time (again, probably without any response):

They have 3 albums, and I believe I even made a thread about them once. First album is really good, second has a new vocalist which I don't particularly like, and I didn't get the newest since it got bad reviews for every song sounding the same.

Well, technically the band is not Porgressive Rock, but Fusion Jazz, which is why it might sound like jazz.
Still sounds mostly prog rock-y so I posted it anyways.
Yeah, didn't really consider that. Fusion Jazz is one of those hard to define things like prog so I guess it's sort of all encompassing.

Maybe its actually Post-Ironic Breardcore.
Got a late birthday present from my brother.
Systematic Chaos on vinyl. Awwwww yeah.
