as an Australian I dont often find your average Ozric cd in stores
or...any cds in stores really, Australia being utterly awful at CD supply of prog psychedelia especially
Hey guys, this is the first time I've posted in this thread. I haven't read through all 50 of the other pages, so I apologise if anyone's posted this.
But, Canterbury (the town where I currently live) used to have an incredible prog scene which died out about 20 years ago. Recently however, a new group of young artists are beginning to revive it - which I've been trying to play an active part.
One of my friends is the singer of this band:

They're called Syd Arthur and they're well worth a listen. Kate Bush's son is also in the band haha!
There are a few other bands in the area which are trying to get a new scene started, but Canterbury is missing a decent venue for live music. Anyway, take a listen, it's good stuff, and they're even better live.
Also, just a quick bit of self promotion, but we've been organising these 'roving open mic nights' where we get bands, musicians, poets to come and perform in people's lounge rooms every fortnight around the city. This is a video I shot of Liam (the lead singer of Syd Arthur) that night. It's magical:
Update: Just got their single and EP on iTunes. Do they have anything else, or a full album coming out?? They're amazing!

They're working on an album at the moment. Should be out at some point in the near future. Will post again in this thread when they do.
So guys, after a few months, I'm back with a flying visit. Syd Arthur have just released their album. Hard copies aren't out yet, but you can download the album here. It's really fucking nice and not too expensive.

They have a track from the album you can listen to, but I don't think it represents the best of the album. Still groovy though.
Peace.
Glad to see those guys got an album out, I really liked them when you posted them before
Also Kate Bush's son, thats pretty special
Additionally, my collector's edition copy of Storm Corrosion came today. Beautiful artwork, and I get 2 demos and an instrumental version, blu-ray copy etc etc. So worth it except I can't play the blu-ray on my mac. Ugh.

Yeah I think that's the same edition I got, unless you got the one with vinyl and everything?
Pity you can't play the blu-ray, the surround mix is incredible. Obviously an album made with surround sound in mind.

This is really great. I'll be getting ahold of this when it comes out. I really like it.
All Steven Wilson albums are made with surround in mind, lol. I'm going to invest in a USB blu-ray reader so I can give it a listen. Plus sounds like a thing I should get anyway.
Nah, I would have, but they sold out

Yeah I kept putting it off for some reason, and then when I finally tried to order it they were sold out. I was a bit disappointed, but oh well.
Now I have Clockwork Angels and the new Neal Morse album to look forward to. Although I think Storm Corrosion is going to be my album of the year. It just keeps getting better.

He was on her last album, sounds exactly like her.
Typo, guys. Sorry, it's her nephew.
"is the nephew and heir of Kate Bush"

Not sure what that means though... heir, when she has a son :P
Edit:
Sweet. Just found their first music video on prog rock magazine's website:

Don't know how many people on here know of Cog.
Fantastic Australian prog band from a few years ago. They released 3 albums and then broke up in 2010.

Cog are the greatness.
And for anyone that likes Cog, you will most certainly dig Floating Me:

Finally giving The Incident a proper listen. I'm liking it, not as much as Deadwing or Fear of a Blank Planet, but it's pretty good.

I personally think it's better than FOABP, but definitely not Deadwing. Deadwing is one of my favourite PT albums.
I think The Incident has become my favourite PT album. Still, it's hard to really choose a definitive best.

Opeth recorded their Sydney show from last year and put it up on YouTube. Pretty fantastic show. Wish I went. Almost did.
Fear of a Blank Planet is my favourite, and I used to prefer Deadwing but somehow I don't now, it seems more of a bridge between In Absentia and FOABP, except for the long songs which are fantastic.
Incident is...weird. It contains some of my most favourite and least favourite songs, like I don't like Great Expectations or Kneel and Disconnect all too much really, but I Drive the Hearse and Black Dahlia are by far some of the best PT songs I know of

Nei! Hvur andskotinn! Hvað höfum við hér? Íslenskt prog??

I've recently remixed 2 classic albums by ELP, their first album from 1970 and second album Tarkus from 1971, both to be released by Sony in July as 3 disc sets. In each case disc one is a CD of the original mix, disc two is a CD of the stereo remix in the form of an alternate version of the album, adding a lot of bonus material and previously undiscovered tracks recorded during the sessions. Disc 3 is an audio content only DVD containing 5.1 surround sound mixes in DTS, and PCM stereo.
I'm definitely getting the title album, and probably Tarkus. might just get both

Really? Anglagard has to be one of the best post 70's prog bands ever.
Why is this thread so damn dead?

Rush - Clockwork Angels (All track previews)

Headlong Flight, their new single from the same album.

Rush's new album is shaping up to be amazing, and refreshing from their past few efforts (Although honestly I really liked Vapor Trails, despite the album's rather loud sound mixing and the fanbase's disapproval)

I personally loved Snakes and Arrows. One of my favourite Rush albums. Working Them Angels is a brilliant song.
Pretty excited for Clockwork Angels, although I'm not a fan of the new artwork. Much prefered the old one.
listening to clockwork angels in it's entirety as I type, will post opinions when i'm done listening
3/5, will be honest; I enjoy it more than their 70s works
