Yes' Tales from Topographic Oceans is fantastic imo. People can moan about everything being long and drawn out but it's just a joy and challenge to hear if you're a big Yes fan.
I'll look into it.
Get Relayer. You need relayer.

Banks of Eden by The Flower Kings is brilliant. I think it's the best thing they've ever done.

Astra's first album is also really really good
there are also new albums by Comus (not in the same league as first utterance obviously but still worth listening to) and Änglagård (haven't listened to that one, supposedly it's gud though)
also I don't know if you guys have any interest in Zeuhl but this song's really cool
listening to Opeth's Damnation after neglecting it for over a year. Have to say I'm enjoying it quite a lot... back when I first heard it I didn't think it was all that special.
Times change, people change...
damn, I want that Lark's Tongues in Aspic t-shirt. :v:

That's how I felt about Blackwater Park, but then I gave it another good listen and I found it enjoyable.

DAAMNNN
that redefines the meaning of "special edition" :v:
I got an email from DGMLive yesterday saying that all orders in August for the new Larks' editions gets some coasters and that those that order the big Larks' boxset gets 6 of them. Score! :v:
I never game Yes a truly comprehensive listen. I'm downloading several of their albums now and see if I can listen to most of them tomorrow.
I found this band and I like their sound. But I'm not sure they're progressive rock... this is the only rock-related thread on the front page so, wondering if you guys could tell me.

Steven wilson news time!
New Porcupine Tree Live DVD/CD coming out, Octane Twisted it's called, contains a full live set of the Incident and a second set of misc songs including this list from the site:
Hatesong
Lazarus
Russia on Ice
(only first half)
Anesthetize
(Part 2: "The Pills I'm Taking")
Stars Die
Normal
Bonnie the Cat
Encore:
Blackest Eyes
Trains
Pretty impressive set all round.
Also apparently SW hates bands like the flower kings and transatlantic that try and bring back classic prog, he had a huge rant about them in like 2005 that got a response from a member of the flower kings, said they were the death of progressive music blah blah blah. Thought that was pretty interesting.
he's pretty much right
i'll go digging for really obscure stuff and all i'll get is throwbacky bs
there's not very much good modern prog anyways (that fits the bill enough, at least)
