You know what's a sweet Yes album. Drama. I picked it up for $5 at one of the large CD chains in Aus because apparently it had been there for a VERY long time. But it's really up there with 90125, or better even.

That was a great listen but holy crap does the last song rip off Shine On You Crazy Diamond.
I've never given Rush a go before but I absolutely loved 2112. Really nice introduction to Rush I would presume [editline]16th September 2012[/editline] By the way, which albums by Yes and Genesis would you guys recommend starting out with?
For Yes I would recommend Close to the Edge. Yessongs and Fragile are a good starting point too.
By the way, which albums by Yes and Genesis would you guys recommend starting out with?
try "The Yes Album" and "Duke". I know hardcore fans of both bands will hate me, but who gives.
Yes Album I'm fine with but Duke? Not denying its greatness as an album but if he's asking where to start with Genesis in a progressive rock thread than that suggestion is just plain misleading and wouldn't be a true representation of what he's looking for.
just plain misleading and wouldn't be a true representation of what he's looking for.
It was on Duke where Phil Collins' presence became more apparent.
Can I post this? I'm posting this. Mogwai is the shit.
It was on Duke where Phil Collins' presence became more apparent.
Yeah, and fair enough too but Duke was also the album where they started to downplay aspects of their progressive music in favour of a more pop sound. It's still great and all but the Gabriel era is without doubt a much better representation of Genesis as a prog band I love Phil Collins era because it's just so catchy but if he's looking for prog he should look at Selling England first imo
Well, I finally heard Clockwork Angels. That was a really average album
Well, I finally heard Clockwork Angels. That was a really average album
Completely forgot about that album. I'm going to give it a second shot, but probably will still stay meh for me.

Holy shit is that Guthrie Govan playing with him?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eTiLoiyHDRI&feature=relmfu http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tepmJdFYiqI This album hhuhuhuuhuh uugghgh god it strikes me that this will not sound like a steve wilson album at all
God this sounds awesome. Also, Nick Beggs is the coolest guy. "OHIHOPEIDON'TFALLOVEEEEEEEEEEEEEER!" *falls over*
Holy shit is that Guthrie Govan playing with him?
Yeah, Guthrie Govan is the new guitarist for the band during their recording sessions. Unsure about live. Marco seems really cool as well, got the drum part back in 30 minutes because 'he was going out that night'
Wait, have I missed something? Is this a new SW solo album?
Yes, he's recording it now, details are: - Recorded in LA, engineered by Alan Parsons who if you're not aware did the production for Dark Side of the Moon and also obviously was frontman for the Alan Parsons Project (pretty common knowledge) - Written by Steven Wilson purposefully as a band project - ie it was written entirely with his these band members in mind. - Guthrie Govan is playing guitar on it - Intended to provide some more liveliness to their live show, as a result, Wilson has said that it could be seen as an antithesis to Grace for Drowning, because GFD was so dark and brooding, sinister whereas the new one will be more symphonic, more lively and upbeat with buckets of energy. - Finally, one of the songs Luminol has already been played live, and gotten a sweet live version, so if you want a preview, here's a professional playthrough of Luminol which will be featured in the upcoming live DVD (which just got mailed to me, yay) This shit is going to be SO fucking cash
Oh wow that sounds so cheesy
Yes, he's recording it now, details are: - Recorded in LA, engineered by Alan Parsons
I knew that big hair looked familiar.
Oh wow that sounds so cheesy
What, Luminol does?
Yeah, I can't tell whether it's the drumming or the woodwind instruments that make it like that.
I don't really think it's cheesy at all, just REALLY upbeat, especially for a steven wilson song

The guy with the red guitar looked like Gavin Harrison for a minute. It was quite confusing.
I don't really think it's cheesy at all, just REALLY upbeat, especially for a steven wilson song
It actually reminds me of Tinto Brass (I think?) from Stupid Dream a bit.
My favourite part of that SW solo album is the fact that Alan Parsons is involved. Maybe he can convince Steve to lay off the AutoTune.
He doesn't use autotune... even if he did there wouldn't be much of a problem with it. It doesn't detract from the music.
new Marillion album any good?
He doesn't use autotune... even if he did there wouldn't be much of a problem with it. It doesn't detract from the music.
Well, he does. Its presence isn't entirely subtle. I've heard it on Grace for Drowning, various Porcupine Tree releases and other SW collaborations. It may not detract from the music for everyone, but it sure does for me.

If he did use it, it'd be subtle as anyway, or used on the harmonies which is fairly common practice. Why is it such a big deal to you? It's hardly even noticeable
