I'm wheeels I am moving wheels moving wheeeeeels I have been disciplined in the ways of Prog Rock by a friend for a while now. This guy really knows his shit when it comes to Prog Rock, and he's shown me some fairly unknown bands that deserve more love. I tried to find something about it on here but found nothing, so hell, I just wanna share the love for the absurd swedish humor from the mid 70's side of prog rock. Why are there always empty seats at prog rock concerts? [sp]Because prog musicians will never sell out. :>[/sp]
Why are there always empty seats at prog rock concerts? [sp]Because prog musicians will never sell out. :>[/sp]
I appreciated the joke but at the same time prog musicians were the biggest sellouts in the history of rock n roll
Thats 4 posts without mentioning Steven Wilson. You guys are doing it wrong.
Thats 4 posts without mentioning Steven Wilson. You guys are doing it wrong.
i'd say that's doing it right thankfully enough
Why did you have to break the stream Let's use steven wilson to get on topics of other progs instead I guess - often when I'm bored he has a top 10 playlist each month that he updates on his website, so I go through those albums because they're more often than not obscure and fantastic, or just kinda cool check this prog out:

Did someone say self-promotion? Have a proggy pop song my band demoed earlier in the year and that I only just got round to doing vocals for. The vocals are kind of shit, but I was in a rush and decided they're OK for a demo.
There's this new band called The Sizlacks. They started over the summer and they only have 2 demos and 1 song, but they're starting to gain a following. Demo 1 Demo 2 Deeper
Alright guys, what's in your opinion the best Gentle Giant album to start with. I've been meaning to listen to them for ages but never got around to it.
Alright guys, what's in your opinion the best Gentle Giant album to start with. I've been meaning to listen to them for ages but never got around to it.
Octopus is a pretty good album. i also really like their debut album but that's less popular
Life in a Glass House imo
Came across this the other day. This guy covers a classic Genesis song but twists it into a prog metal taste. Sounds really nice. ... And that signature shift just after 2:55 melted my face.
Just got In The Court Of The Crimson King on vinyl. I had forgotten how perfect it was.
the flaming lips cover the entire album In the Court of the Crimson King
Holy shit, my Larks' Tongues in Aspic 15 CD boxset just showed up. It is more awesome than I originally imagined. I wish the other KC albums got the same treatment, that would be amazing.
Pics please.
15 CD? What the hell do they all even contain?
I'll get some pictures together tomorrow. I'm listening to the 5.1 mix at the moment, it is absolutely fantastic. The 15 CDs (well, 13 and 1x DVD and 1x Blu-ray to be specific) contain all the live shows KC ever did with the Larks' Lineup, plus the new stereo mix, surround mix, 30th anniversary mix, original vinyl pressing transfers and various recordings from the album's early stages. Its pretty damn thorough to say the least.
The Larks' remaster is great
Speaking of remasters, I never realised just how much more you can hear on the Genesis 2008 remasters. It's like they added whole new tracks and shit, it's great.
I finally got around to taking the pictures of the new KC boxset, though I said I would several days ago. But nevertheless, here they are: The box in all its glory! For those unfamiliar with the previous KC Boxset (for In the Court), the size of the box is about the same as an LP cardboard sleeve. Opening the box, we are greeted with an artwork and lyric sheet. Some photocopied tickets from way back. On the back they feature a link to the only live show (at the Rainbow Theatre as printed above) not included in the entire box (besides a URL to it). There was also an envelope containing some pictures of the KC Larks' lineup. (Clockwise: Jaime Muir, Robert Fripp, John Wetton, David Cross and Bill Bruford). Label promotional flyer for the album. A tour poster. The front cover of the hefty book included. First and second page. The set of discs included. Each pack contains 3 discs each, and in the bottom right are the two 3 disc sets of Studio Recordings. The first set. And how each set looks unfolded. Each detailing what each recording is and a bit of history behind it. So there you have it, $120 worth of Larks' Tongues in Aspic. I'm glad I had the opportunity to get it, it is a fantastic boxset.
Looks fucking sexy, but no way is that worth $120 (But then again that's about what I paid for the DTP Contain Us box set so apparently I'm retarded)
Ladies and gentlemen, the maturity of Opeth.
I fucking want the Larks box set. Also still need to get around to getting the In The Court boxset.
