Whose this tool with the blue hair
Probably someone that was more successful than some of us.
Can we go back to vibrant, colorful UT like 2004, and leave the disgusting filter bloom brown grunge look behind?
Pleaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaase
It's a fucking tournament, it *SHOULD* look flashy and colorful and ridiculous.

Well you can download UE4 and start helping them create a colorful UT.

Get the community to work together for that consistent style, then, without being too cartoony.
why does that guy have blue hair
buy and sell mods and content.
I do not like this.
Seems like a really cool idea, drawing inspiration from tf2 system but taken to another level. They could do something like local motors do for their crowd sourced cars. I think there are tons of talented people out there who can create something really cool. However first they must come up with some rules, themes, artstyles etc.

That's also what I'm currently thinking - The community can't control them self properly. Some crowd- and quality control is necessary and .
I'm still very interested how they are going to organise this, and I would love to do a bit of contribution!
It's not f2p, it's just straight up free.
Free to Play = Free
Also, what the fuck F2P UT? Really? Why? Epic, you don't have unlimited cash, you need to make money and I swear to god if you add shit like micro-transactions I will come to your office and detonate a mother fucking redeemer on your asses!
Free to Play = Free
No, it's not.
No, it's not.
If something is free to play. You can play it for free. At no cost.
Free means that it has no cost. Therefore, yes F2P is the same as free. And like I said, the only way they can make money off this is to use micro-transactions which is a piss poor move.
why does that guy have blue hair
because he wants to?
Ok, lets argue semantics here.
When I hear free to play, it means definitively, that the game does not have a price to play it.
That does NOT mean that everything the game OFFICIALLY comes with is free (i.e. hats in TF2, and other microtransaction stuff)
When I hear free, it means definitively, that everything the game OFFICIALLY comes with, is free and for anyone.
The Market place that they are providing, allows people to buy and sell UNOFFICIAL content (i.e. not from UE4 Devs or Epic)
Using the logic from the definition of free, it should be safe to assume that anything the UE4 devs or Epic devs make is going to be free.
They will earn money based on UE4 Developer subscriptions and get a percentage off the things the 3rd party developers and modders sell.

Free to Play = Free to PLAY, but some of the things arent
Free = Everything is free.

cant be the only one who finds this hilarious
This is awesome, I really hope the game ends up closer to the original Unreal Tournament.
This is gonna be my first UT.
How fucked would I be if I tried to play it like Quake 3.
This is gonna be my first UT.
What why
Not that I disagree, but UT3 took place in the off-season; it never actually featured the Grand Tournament.
[editline]9th May 2014[/editline]
No, you can pay $20/month to get the license to UE4 and start helping them create a colorful UT. That's how Epic are going to make mad dosh off this, not to mention it's one big advert for UE4 so that developers with licenses can go "Alright, i'll try out these tools, oh shit you can do some cool stuff, i see how Epic did this thing in UT, that's nice"
This whole thing is really just a big advert for UE4's features. Wouldn't be surprised if they put a bunch of gimmicky shit in that just advertises engine features.
[editline]9th May 2014[/editline]
If they really wanted it to be this huge community driven project, they'd feature a free UDK for UT. UE3 is in literally hundreds if not thousands of games; Epic make more off the engine than they could ever possibly make with games. They're selling an engine first and foremost, and this is just a big marketing plot for that.
They said its going to be modable, so I am guessing the mod tools will come out for it later and be free. I know regular UE4 will still be pay for tho.
What why
Until around 2012 I was a primarily console gamer and it looked like a game analog sticks would make harder.
When I did get into PC gaming I bought Quake 3 on sale and was sucked in.
