I remember my yr12 history teacher telling us a story about back in the day, when the school had it's own army cadet unit. The school priest (private catholic boy's school) was somewhat upset that the unit was being made to give up its Bren gun.
I was lucky enough to go to a public school.

:what: When I was in 4'th grade a class mate brought an empty revolver to school and the teacher saw it and didn't do shit. Note: This was in 2002
Holy fucking shit. Stupid faggots, only because of theese situations whole world thinks America is land of stupid. Good job Palmer, now I'll be sure I won't live in USA for long.... Chop his hands off so he can't do it again, it's the only fair punishment
I really don't know much about it but when he gets charged with concealing a weapon, wouldn't that be put on his criminal record and badically fade his chance for a good job in the future?
What do they get from this? Money?
that sick son of a bitch
At my primary school they didn't mind toy guns. However, they banned pokemon cards because apparently children were fighting over them.
It's funny reading this stuff, considering we actually went to shooting range with our class last year and could shoot with pistols, shotguns and couple of rifles. Everyone liked it
Zero tolerance is the worst policy ever. What happened to second chance?
This reminds me of the time I accidentally brought my 12-gauge shotgun to school. I accidentally pulled it out during Science when I was looking for my wallet, luckily the teacher didn't see!
Hi, we're Penn and Teller and this is bullshit.
Zero tolerance = Idiocy
Oh wow that's just dumb.
Even though the gun was a toy, it is considered a weapon because it shoots soft plastic projectiles. Man I'm glad he's getting what he deserves, he could have easily killed everyone with that!
I also hate that germophobia thing, if your house is entirely covered with cleaning products, then the germs adapt and become immune to the Raid or whatever. It's the same principle as in the Princess Bride where that dude ingests a small amount of poison and becomes immune, although I doubt it works that way. It happens at hospitals, they've got all of these somewhat unkillable germs because they have to sterilize everything so much.
Reminds me of the time I accidentally left a pocket knife in my backpack and nearly pulled it out in the middle of class when reaching for a pencil. Kid really doesn't deserve any punishment.
I think I've done that before, I pulled it out and dropped it back in almost instantly, in front of the teacher.
THAT SICK MONSTER.
Zero tolerance policies are the worst thing ever. I remember a news thread about an 80 year old lady who had an incredibly old and not functioning german pistol from WW2 in her attic that her father gave her when he came back from the war, and she was charged for not having a license for it and was eventually sent to jail because even though it was broken and it would have cost tons of money to repair (If I recall, only half of the weapon was even there) she was charged to the fullest extent due to zero tolerance.
How can the jury be such cunts in cases like that?

The boy was charged because the school district has a “zero tolerance policy” regarding weapons on school grounds. The toy is still considered a weapon because it “fires,” Police Chief Robert P. Frydryk said. “It was inappropriate to bring it to school ... Anything that can shoot a projectile is considered a weapon,” Frydryk said. Frydryk said the charge the student is facing is a misdemeanor, and said he doubts the child will be found delinquent, or guilty, by the court. “That’s not going to happen in this case. We have to file the charge because it is not appropriate to bring any kind of weapon on school grounds. Nobody, neither us, or the school administration, thinks he brought it to school to harm anyone,” Frydryk said. The chief said the boy told police that he realized he had the gun in his jacket pocket and was putting it in his backpack when another student on the bus spotted it. The boy then shot himself in the leg with the plastic gun to prove it wasn’t real, Frydryk said. The gun fires soft plastic pellets and retails for approximately $20. The incident happened on May 5. When police arrived, the boy was already in the principal’s office. Frydryk said the boy told authorities that he used the plastic gun the day before and forgot he had it on him. “No one was in danger. It had nowhere near the velocity of a BB gun,” Frydryk said. Superintendent Gerald A. Fournier said it is a “school issue” and the administration has taken appropriate action “based on the policies and procedures we have in place.” Fournier refused to say more, citing confidentiality issues involving the juvenile student. The district’s weapons policy states: “in the interest of safety and security of all students, school personnel, and school property, all weapons are prohibited from school grounds, buildings, and activities. The only exception to this policy will be police and military authorities who may carry weapons during the course of their duties. The term ‘weapon’ includes, but will not be limited to, a firearm, knife, object, or article that can be used or is intended to be used by a person to injure another.” Said Old Mill Pond Elementary School Principal Susan J. Farrell, “We take the safety of students very seriously.” Airsoft guns are widely available on the Internet and at major retailers. At Army Barracks on Riverdale Road in West Springfield, manager Andrew J. Banner said the Airsoft guns are a popular item, and are rivaling paintball guns because they are less expensive. Like paintball, Airsoft users will gather in a field and shoot the plastic pellets at each other, he said. “Barring misuses of it, it doesn’t really leave a mark,” Banner said. A 9-year-old would probably use an Airsoft for target practice or for games in the backyard, he said. “Some parents use it as a way to teach gun safety,” Banner said. Banner said the store carries a variety of models, from the $20 spring pistol to the more expensive $600 electric sniper rifle, and all have the distinctive orange tip that means they are not real guns. Anyone who wants to buy an Airsoft gun also must be at least 18, he said.
http://www.masslive.com/news/index.ssf/2011/05/palmer_9-year-old_headed_to_juvenile_court_for_bringing_airsoft_gun_on_school_bus.html
