I think the best episode was the one where they went to that alternate reality where Johnny was a respected, law-abiding citizen, and his dog was the mayor.
someone should mute the voices of the characters and just leave only the sound effects and music playing.
tumblr has been going mad over the whole johnny test thing
one person pointed out the opening theme song is actually american idiot, and in watching it I found johnny actually cracking a (disconnected) whip
There's also this fucking high pitched "Er Er Er" noise they use all the time and it's terrible. but after seeing episode 1, despite the Dexter's Lab knock off elements it certainly wasn't as bad. The animation was much better before shitty flash.
Season 1 is the only decent season pretty much.
[editline]13th May 2014[/editline]
Keyword "decent"
The first time I saw the show all I thought was like "Wow they think they're really fucking clever just changing around Dexter's Lab." Except the show was shit and not even anywhere close Dexter's Lab-quality.
I remembered there was one episode of this show where instead of parodying whatever was popular at the time, they parodied their own fucking show.
Scott Fellows, you're the dude who made Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide, for crying out loud! What happened?!
When I saw this show on Cartoon Network the only thing I could really remember was that the characters at one point or another kept on saying "Woah, didn't see that coming!" whenever something bad happened. But even when the characters were aware of something bad happening they'd still say it.
Oh, and the animation was really stiff.
Its never gonna end, its a show so cheaply made that they can keep running it into the ground.

Holy shit it is American idiot.
Even as a young 8-10 year old I noticed the animation died between seasons. I also hardly ever laughed at this show. It was more of a "Do I want to watch the Justin Beiber documentary, or Johnny Test" type deal where you just stare at the TV for 15 minutes and wonder what you're doing with your life.
My 25 year old brother watches Johnny Test.
Just let that swish around in your mind for a moment.
This show has 6 seasons.
Why
I always feel extremely mad when I see shitty shows last 3+ seasons, and then remember that Spectacular Spider-Man lasted only two before it got canned and replaced with garbage.
Not that I'm BITTER or anything.
What the fuck is wrong with the sound editor. There is not a single second of silence on this show.
christ it's just unending audio diarrhea
this is kinda relevant (but not entirely)
Weren't there men and black rip offs? Mr Black and Mr White or something like that? I feel like they made the joke that Mr. White was black and Mr Black was white.
I never heard the whip cracks before and now they're all I can hear, thanks for that

For comparison, here's the very first episode. Still terrible, but no shitty flash animation. Or whipcracks. A solid 6/10, maybe.
EDIT:

my brain is mentally adding whipcracks help

ahh, this explains it all too well. With a lack of funds they clearly bypassed paying for competent writers, opting instead for whoever would work, maximizing potential success by following some guidelines provided by a focus group on what would keep children's attention
Death by committee is an agonizing process, as the procedure ensures the subject stays alive through it all until it becomes a dried, useless husk
So it basically has the funding of a Youtube show, probably less
fucking adobe flash, lmao
Flash can look good if you know how to work with it
but that's also expensive. It's better to just tween everything.
there's a few shows that have pulled flash off with miracle-level quality
Flash can do some pretty awesome stuff when it's handled properly
someone should mute the voices of the characters and just leave only the sound effects and music playing.
that would be very tough considering that they never shut up

I can think of one pretty good example, but it is very much NSFF (not safe for Facepunch).
Although I did hear a lot about how they have to deal with constant Flash crashes and stuff.
But the thing about Flash is that I just don't see an alternative for animation. Games and videos and stuff can be replaced with HTML5 stuff, but what about Flash's animation abilities?
I'm suprised none of you guys have mentioned the constant saying of "Woah, didn't see that coming" that the show loves to abuse.

Say what you want about the show itself, but MLP's animation is superb, it's super simple, but has that smoothnes and "snap" to it that Johnny Test is trying so hard to do with sound effects.

Considering it's literally the cheapest made show on basic cable TV right now, yet still gets decent ratings amongst kids 3-7 and 6-11, it'll probably still be around a while. The last season was made with almost 100% precanned and preexisting animations that they just rescaled or recolored.
Cookie Jar is a notoriously cheap company who's only claim to fame is Total Drama and buying foreign series for CTV on the cheap after they've lost popularity and price.
I think they keep it around for CanCon - most networks can't broadcast in Canada without a certain amount of canadian content, so they hire a shitty cheap canadian studio to satisfy the quota with as little money as possible.

Correct

"For broadcast stations, the CRTC presently requires that 60% yearly, and at least 50% of prime-time programming, 6:00 pm to midnight, be of Canadian origin."

From my experience, and from what I've learned from others who work with the program, Flash typically has much less RAM for the user to work with compared to other Adobe software, hence why it's known to crash a lot when there's a lot going on in one session. I can't imagine Johnny Test would have that problem though for most episodes, seeing how minimal the designs are for the character puppets and most objects in the show. At least in theory, anyway.
The typical rule of thumb when working with Flash is that it's a web design tool first (remember when everyone used Flash to make web pages?), but it just happens to be that you can make animated stuff with it too. Hence, why artists and animators tend to fight with the program to get it to do what they want.
As for an alternative besides Flash in animation, Toon Boom is pretty much the thing for animation nowadays. Most shows and movies use this instead of Flash for everything, from handling the entire animation pipeline digitally, to inking and coloring animation done with pencil/paper and scanned in a computer. In fact, seeing how the show had a much bigger budget in the first season, I'd wager that the first season of this show was done with pencil/paper, then inked and colored in Toon Boom or a similar program. Every show handles production differently though, so it depends on a number of factors.
I hate this show probably more than any other modern show. It's shitty, the humor is childish and stupid, the animation is horrible and the whipcracks, oh god the whipcracks.
