Not sure that's such a good idea, my family has never respected my privacy much, but they used to be a lot better about it, until I asked them to give me a little more privacy, now they're constantly barging in on me whenever I'm doing anything, seems the more I ask them to respect my privacy the less they actually do.

Hm... that sounds pretty nasty from my point of view. Even so, it might be worth saying that it's really making you feel uncomfortable and you would like them to stop doing it. Worst that can happen is they'll completely disregard your feelings, at which point you can pull out the 'why don't you care about how I feel?' card.
