No it didn't. It went into more the lore, which a lot of people at the time were excited about, because at the point of Voyager there really wasn't too much information about them.
The thing is that before Voyager the Borg were seen as almost an unstoppable force of nature, with no real organisation or direction, this made them much creepier imo. Then Voyager (and First Contact) came along and made the Borg just another enemy intent on Galactic domination which made them boring.
Voyager was my childhood, unfortunately no new series can bring that back.

Except it just wasn't.
Their whole reason was to seek absolute perfection through assimilation of other races.
It wasn't just to simply assimilate everyone and everything in their path and the show even showed them as vulnerable because Species 8472 was vastly superior to them.
ST: Enterprise could have been so much better with a different theme song
It said new crew, so I think its like normal but after the next generation??
That music and the visuals takes me to the credits of "into Darkness" so i think it's JJ verse.

I'm going to continue with the unpopular opinions
DS9 > ORIGINAL > VOY > ENT > TNG
I really don't like TNG. For every awesome character, there's a cringey character.

Q was arguably the best part of Trek

Wesely Crusher is more competent than the entire adult cast, but is also an annoying little shit, and he plagued a good half of the episodes.
Diana Troi somehow has credentials to be on a star ship, when literally anyone could do her job. Someone screaming is angry, we really needed her to tell us this.
Wesely's Mom is just as annoying as her son
that and pretty much every episode before season 3 started is terrible.
Why does everyone always hate on Voyager so much? I loved it just for the journey into the unknown premise, let alone Janeway being an awesome Captain.
More on topic though, I just hope it doesn't borrow anything really from the new movies. Especially that ugly as hell engine room.
Every episode of DS9 was literally whining about the childrens and the oppression until Babylon 5 started kicking the shit out of them in the ratings, and Berman was forced to hire good writers to compete.

Faith of the Heart's an alright song, but yeah it's not exactly the kind of music you'd want to open an episode of Star Trek with for nearly a hundred episodes. Shoulda gone with an original tune like the other shows.

And it was still better than Wesley Saves the day Episode #450, Wesely so good that he evolves beyond humanity with a time traveler.
Like jesus christ, that show had a hard on for that kid.

The whole reason the Mirror Universe intro was so good was because it was an apology of sorts from the studio heads
That's what they said in the special features at least. Season 4's behind the scenes are really interesting to watch and basically laid it out how some terrible decisions and writing from certain people fucked up the show
And then they brought them back for the final episode which is why its balls
ST Enterprise was garbage. I really don't know anyone who liked it and I can't think of anything that was good about it.

Also, fuck the Borg Queen. Hope if the Borg are in this new series they retcon the fuck outta that dumb git.

...Quantum.
Just a tip for everyone who enjoyed Voyager but though it ended before it should have.
The relaunch novels start directly after Voyager ends, they're really well written and do the characters justice.

also star trek phase II is finally launching it seems
I dunno why, I just keep hearing that Voyager was one of the weaker series' in the continuity.
If you want to talk about continuity in the Star Trek universe you need to omit like 80% of the whole thing, nearly EVERY movie after the first gen, and still you'll have some sloppy shit.
[editline]20th May 2016[/editline]
I liked Voyager because it wasn't the same old shit of Klingons are good but not really, and oh let's meet some more vulcans cuz you know... It took a lot of chances and for the most part it was overall enjoyable giving a nice fish out of water expirence by putting a very untrained crew out in the middle of buttfuck nowhere.

You gotta remember the premise of Voyager was a bunch of misfits who were a bunch of untrained shit show crew to give to some high commanders whiny ass daughter to shut her up and patrol some piss ant part of space.
I will say the Space Nazi's and WW2 episodes did get old

yeah like that time he got drunk and nearly killed the entire crew or that time he killed his friend in college and tried to cover it up
Like Wesley was pretty obnoxious and his last episode was fucking bizarre, but he's not just some Mary Sue, he had a least a couple enormous fuck-ups.
Well, let's just hope it's at least better than Voyager or Enterprise.
Voyager was a great show and Enterprise was hated for all the wrong reasons. They both held up really well. Sure Enterprise didn't have any villains on Gul Dukat's level, but let's face it. He set the bar pretty damn high.
There wouldn't be anything wrong with voyager if they didn't do the reset button all the time. It could have had a Battlestar Galactica-esque tension all over the series, but who cares this is the future and we have replicators creating matter out of thin air for repairing the hull and whatnot. The only thing they've ever needed was dilithium crystals and tha borg queen's ass for a wormhole.

Yeah but the premise of the show was they were alone far far away from the federation, in the presence of the dangerous borg
then we got this for an episode

Well okay but that's the end of the series where future Janeway cheated with future tech despite so many time travelers telling them it's against the law basically. How she got away with it I'll never know but I guess the novels go into better detail.

I don't know about going full BSG, I think it would have been more in line with the Trek ethos if the various other races marooned by the caretaker joined as more permanent caretakers and you eventually you started to have a microcosm of the alpha and beta quadrants on one or a handful of ships.
I need more

They don't create matter out of thin air, the replicator requires stuff to be reconfigured. That's replicator 101. There were plenty of episodes where they were desperate for raw materials. And don't you remember all the times they used their rations for bets? It was a huge part of the show that often had to take detours just to get the materials needed to survive, such as the "There's coffee in that nebula" episode.
And the armored Voyager episode makes sense when you include the fact that future Janeway was the only reason it was possible. By the time she reached that age that technology was basically commonplace on the important ships IIRC.
Looking at all of the Star Trek series, the huge leaps in technology is an integral part of the series and a lens through which they analyze a changing human condition.
Only real problem I had with Voyager was 7/9 getting with Chakotay.
It came out of nowhere.
