There are seriously people boycotting the movie because of Orson Scott Cards beliefs.
It was only a matter of time.
This just reminds me how the only two books I really understood out of the saga were Ender's game and Ender's Shadow. Everything else just went right over my head [editline]9th May 2013[/editline] That said I'm excited for the Battle Room Scenes. Rat army for life
I read the first one in elementary school, so a lot of the subtext and stuff flew right by me until I read it again in high school, and after having become aware of all the subtext and stuff, I found that I enjoyed it a lot less than I remembered. I wiki'd the other books' plot synopses and was pretty much turned completely off of the whole series.
I just finished the book, and my god it was amazing. Before "Contact" was my favorite book, but this one easily outshined it. Now I'm only worried on how they'll make the movie. How are they possibly going to fit everything in? [editline]19th May 2013[/editline] Gonna read Ender's Shadow next. [editline]19th May 2013[/editline] Also, even though it might be the general audience, and I would not blame them for making this decision. But I hope it isn't rated "Teen". Because for me atleast, this book was quite grim and brutal, and that was a very big part of the story. If they cut or sugarcoat those parts, well then they're just changing the story. When I first saw the trailer in the videos section I posted
I haven't even read the book and I could still figure out what happened at the end of the trailer.
And with that 5 second scene I had predicted everything right :v: [sp] I'm still quite interested as to how they'll do the "Doctor" weapons.[/sp]
good to see that i'm not the only one that thinks this movie looks ten times worse than aids
I thought Hunger Games was pretty good. The problem with Ender's Game is that it's incredibly hard to make the ENTIRE book a movie, because there's a ton of things going on. His sister's weird political subplot (which amuses me but wouldn't translate well), his mind game thing (that would also be difficult to translate). They can't fully explore what a strategist he is solely with the war games (because there were like fifteen things he did that were awesome). That being said, there's a hell of a lot they could explore. I'm not sure how much they WILL (the shower scene would be difficult because he kills a dude by kicking him in the dick until he dies), but it should be fun.
[sp]He actually kills him by thrusting his nosebone back into his brain, Ender himself realizes later that this is what killed him on the spot when he says "He was bleeding from his lifeless eyes."[/sp] I really wonder how they'll do the fantasy mind game, they have to do it right since it is a very big part of the story. Yet I could not see anything of it in the trailer. [editline]20th May 2013[/editline] We're just gonna have to trust him I guess.

Oh wonderful, kids, just what I like in a movie, when the movie is focused on them, I can't wait for it... It looks shit, purely because kids.
So you must've hated the book too right? But if I read the book I probably wouldn't hate it, given that kid actors are what fuck it up, there's only a few that are actually good.
Anyone else find it weird that they showed [sp]the destruction of the bug planet[/sp] in the trailer? At least, I think that's what it was.

I like to read, but only when it's my choice. If I am forced to read a book for some assignment, I'll hate the shit out of it. I commonly don't read as much as I used to though now that I have access to the internet and computers and videogames and such. Reading is still fun, just as long as it's not forced.

I need to go finish the last book in the series that revolve around Ender.

And really, with that trailer scene I could puzzle up exactly what happened. I mean the scene is very obvious and sticks out with all the others. And after I read the book I found out that my speculations were pretty much correct. [sp] Only part that surprised me is that he did it all during what seemed to him a exercise[/sp]. I have real high hopes on how they do that psychological game. [sp]Considering it's importance[/sp] From the trailer, the little doctor looks pretty cool, expect some sick CGI coming from that. [editline]25th July 2013[/editline] I'm currently on the "Xenocide" book, and well, I just don't find it at all interesting anymore. [sp] That entire book about piggies and all that felt like a chore to read compared to Ender's Game. Can someone compel me to read further into Xenocide, give me some minor spoilers or anything, does it ever become as good and thrilling as the first one?[/sp]

Only time will tell though.

Just saw the second trailer. Holy shit they spoil so much. [editline]19th September 2013[/editline] Like really, most of the trailer is footage from the last 20 minutes of the movie.
Just got back from watching it. Very underwhelming, I watched it with a guy who had never seen the book and he found it entertaining, but honestly if you've read the book don't even bother, they had to bastardize and gloss over so much to fit it into the timeframe.

They didn't touch on it much at all, unfortunately. At the end of the day I just don't think the book can be translated to the screen faithfully; there's just too much going on in the book to jam into 2-3 hours.
I find the Shadow series much more interesting.
Agree. I thought the rest of Ender's series just went totally off the rails into crazytown.
Agree. Can I read the Shadow Series without having read anymore of the Ender's series?
I just now noticed that the Ender's series is still ongoing, and I thought Xenocide would be the last. Can I read the Shadow Series without having read anymore of the Ender's series?
Definitely, Ender's Shadow occurs at the same time as Ender's Game, it's just from Bean's perspective instead. Bean is the best character in the series, and the shadow series really outshone the Ender series imo. Not too sure how good the newest one is however, I read the newest (i think?) book in the Ender series and found it very weak, I think Card's best days are behind him.
I just now noticed that the Ender's series is still ongoing, and I thought Xenocide would be the last. Can I read the Shadow Series without having read anymore of the Ender's series?
The most recent main sequel to Ender's game came out in 08, Ender in Exile, connecting Ender's Game->Speaker for the Dead. I finished the main storyline, the last book is Children of the Mind, and I quite enjoyed the journey Ender has, though I don't like the ending of the main series. I enjoyed Xenocide because it was crazy and through the books showed how Ender has grown, even though he's [sp]something like 3,000 years old[/sp], but if you want to know what happens to Ender, read Children of the Mind, some stuff won't make sense if you didn't read Xenocide. But in Xenocide, [sp] FTL travel[/sp] was interesting to me rather than using [sp]Stargate travel or like Star Trek or any similar Sci-Fi with FTL travelling ships[/sp], the perspective of why the Piggies [sp] killed Libo[/sp] and the justification, and some political tension. Shadow Series is more action and suspenseful, but is still on-going, I think there is one more book, or came out this year, I'm reading through the series right now and pretty much get glued to the books like, for me, the main Ender series, ending up finishing a book in one night. The newest series is the prequel? to Ender's game, dealing with the Formic wars, haven't read the books so I have no idea how is it. Maybe it's Mazer's perspective?
I'm really wondering if they will keep [sp]the twist ending[/sp] as such in the movie, or if they [sp]will roll with it and reveal it right away.[/sp] Spoilers for the uncaring : [sp]The training simulation is actually not a simulation and Ender is responsible for the mass genocide of an alien species[/sp]
just from the trailer id say they didn't because of the speeches they were giving him... but then again they always can cut togather speeches for trailers. also the trailer kinda ticks me off because its so far away from the book. ender by the time he played his game, was tired of it all and barely paid attention after several battles, the trailer looks like he's all angry and quick reflexey, but the book [sp] he just kinda gets bored like any kid his age would and suicides his troops for victory which is why the twist ending fucks him up forever[/sp]
[sp]That's what I loved with the book ending, how he just went "aah fuck it, I can't take this shit anymore", and went complete apeshit on everything in his path. Where he also thought "If the MD device works on ships, it works on planets."[/sp]
