Something like an iPod would probably be out of your reach if you have never physically repaired one before, especially if it is an internal hardware related problem. But if it is software you should fine if you know what you are doing.
Swapping things like that is actually pretty easy, it's really just a compact computer. I'm guessing the wire that runs from the logic board to the headphone jack got screwed up like it did with my old iPod Video, all you have to do is pull the one one out and snap the new one in.
Do you have any kind of certifications to be working on this kind of stuff or have you taken any courses related to it? Because quite frankly you just broke every single rule of technician 101.
You should take his laptop to a computer store and have them put in the bigger hard drive
Get an A+ certification before you do anymore "repairs".

If he is some dumb ghetto kid that probably got rejected in his college apps he isn't going to care.
These kids have an imbalance of brain chemicals. Get some protection.

Great advice. :{

I have taken neither, and I am feel tremendous guilt for pretty much everything I've done with this device.

This is very, very high on my priority list right now. It's a shame my school offers shit in that regard. Electronics class has taught me how to debug and solder safely, but that's it.

why?
Don't do anything, give it back and say you upgraded his laptop
Stop being scared and deal with the consequences. You took responsibility when you agreed to fix it.

Wish I could do that, but I've got this thing called a conscience that stops me.

Hey don't knock that, I never even learnt how to do that in my class.
Oh and one more thing..
If he does beat you up.. Just sue, you will get money. That is how America works.
I hate lawsuit people.
But your right, that's how America works now, which is what sickens me.

virus/spyware scan and say you're done
Maybe you should have some experience in fixing things before trying to fix things.
My dads gaffer thought he could fix an iphone, bearing in mind this was the first time he's even touched an iphone, and ended up breaking 3 screens and knackering it completely.

:eng101:
My point was to just do what he asked in order to make him happy.
But what happens when it doesn't make his laptop faster...
Haha, I know a guy at my school who build his own computer and got all happy about it trying to fix stuff, not actually having a clue what he was doing.
No idea why he wants you to look at his laptop, since you just fucked his ipod over, but just run a virus scan or something like that.
Is the, "gangster" guy black?
