i know you like to disagree with everything but these birds are a legit pest
unlike their native counterpart, indian mynas kill native wildlife and occupy their living space
Oh and I'm pretty sure every human is susceptible to zoonoses from ANY species, it's not likely, but it happens. aids etc
the kookaburras that live near me are more annoying though

What? I'm not saying they're not a pest, I'm saying there is more to it than 'evil bird better kill it'
have we been able to eradicate any introduced species in Australia?
Well yeah, it wouldn't be a zoonotic disease if it wasn't able to infect humans.
My point was that most the diseases that we can get like TB, salmonella and so forth aren't really an issue for people living in the west because we have clean drinking supplies and better healthcare infrastructure. Even if you went out and rubbed bird shit in your wounds and ate it, when you got sick you'd be treated and better in most instances.
Corellas are worse. Always travelling in large flocks and make a hell of a noise.

afaik australia hasn't had any succeess unless you count those one off incidcents where outbreaks are discovered and contained within the same month.
there was a fox bounty running for like 20 years, 5 bucks a tail
we even cull feral camels and goats using helicopters
So I'm about to go murder everyone at Coles (bar the one guy who's trying to actually help me here).
Coles sent me an email last night at like 5PM (yeah, real funny guys, send me an email at the EXACT time you all go home so that I can't contact you for assistance).
Dear Scott,
Thank you for your recent application for a position with Coles.
Unfortunately we were not able to contact you to arrange an interview for a position at Coles, Point Cook.
If you are still interested in a position with us, please update your contact details as soon as possible.
To Update Your Personal Contact Details...
Okay, so... where to start with how fucking STUPID this is. Apparently they couldn't contact me... yet they were perfectly able to EMAIL me to tell me that they COULDN'T contact me! I have not a SINGLE missed call on my house phone, or mobile phone (no calls on my mobile phone might be my fault, I forgot to drop the '0' at the start of my number because it was +61, however my house phone and email address still work!). Not a SINGLE voicemail or answering machine message from Coles.
Despite receiving this email at 5PM yesterday I decided to go in store and speak to the store manager who's a friend of my mum's. I told him the situation, and he told me to contact my group interviewer and tell her that he said he would be more than happy to give me an in store interview. So I come home and email my group interview woman. Wait for a reply for a few hours... nothing. So I went to bed, and this morning I checked again. Also no reply. I decided to call Coles HQ Recruitment Division and talk to someone about the situation, see what could be done. WHILE the phone was ringing and I was waiting to be connected to someone I received an email saying,
Hi Scott,
Andy has filled all of the required positions so what actually would need to happen is for him to request new team members before we could progress any further. Unfortunately due to the cut off period that we have being the 27th November (Sunday), this would not be approved at this stage. I believe that recruitment will kick off again early in the new year and hopefully something will come your way, until then, sit tight and keep your eyes peeled on the website for any updates.
Regards...
Despite this bombshell I decided to stay on the line and talk to someone at Coles, because... fuck the system! I'm NOT accepting 'no' here. I need a fucking job, and they WILL be giving me one. I don't give a shit about all of the red tape or cut off periods - I'm getting a god damn job.
I had a chat with someone at Coles HQ and explained the situation. She asked for my application number, did some digging around and told me that all of the positions had been filled. I told her that Andy (store manager) had said last night that he was happy to interview me, and she told me that if he's happy to do so then it's his decision as store manager.
So now I don't know what the fuck to think. On one hand I'm being told it's basically impossible now, don't bother. On the other hand, somebody at the top of the chain is telling me that it's worth a shot. I'm gonna go in store tonight when Andy clocks on and see if I can talk to him for 5 minutes and work things out. I can't, and don't WANT to leech off of my parents forever. I need my own supply of money, I need to be able to start setting money aside.

accept no and apply for something else
you think they'll fuck you around less when you're their employee?

You think I ONLY applied at Coles? I've applied to plenty of places, the problem is Coles is realistically the only one I was going to get (because I happen to know two people working in very helpful positions within Coles - the store manager of the Coles I wanted to work at, and someone who works in the division of Coles that actually sifts through all of the resumés and chooses who gets contacted for a position in the first place) - I don't have any experience because I've never had a job to get experience (because every time I've TRIED to get a job they've demanded experience... which I can't have without a fucking job... which I can't fucking get without experience!).
Coles was the one job I was SURE I was going to get (and apparently I WAS going to get it, but they couldn't get in contact with me), every other application I sent out would simply have been a nice bonus - a second job to work to rake in some extra cash. But now I'm not even gonna get that, and without experience there's next to no fucking chance anywhere else will hire me.
Meanwhile I only went to an interview last Monday and I've already started.
[editline]22nd November 2011[/editline]
And it's shit but I don't give a fuck. Apply for other shit if I feel like it but this works for now.

Yeah, yeah. Rub it in, you cunt.
You should lie about the experience.
You should lie about the experience.
And when they asked for references? Past employers? Then what?

Pick companies that have gone into administration recently, or undergone major structural change
liquidation is probably best though
besides, it's not like they ever actually do their jobs and go to that much effort, and check your references

If this whole Coles thing doesn't work out (and I'll know sometime around about 6PM tonight), and my one remaining job application is turned down, I'll consider doing this.
Thank you for the tip. I very much appreciate it.

why would i think that
the whole 'you need experience' thing doesn't really apply for a fuckload of entry level jobs, you just need to stand out as a good employee, it's not like you need any skills that can't be replaced in a week
i got my current job with no experience or credits in the industry and right now im sitting pretty
i did have 3 40 minute interviews where i was real good at playing the con, but i was unemployed for almost a 6 good months before I got any callbacks and i applied for hundreds of jobs
[editline]22nd November 2011[/editline]
also if you're going to fudge stuff, don't embellish your qualifications (if any) there are services to check your name against your 'credentials'

or you can just make everything up, just because they have no public face doesn't mean they don't exist
Went out for a bike ride to clear my head and get some exercise.
29.4km in 90 minutes... on a completely empty stomach.
It was probably longer actually. The tool I used on line to calculate the trip length requires you to plot the points manually, and since most of the paths were curved the path I plotted was only an approximation.
My fucking nipples are chaffed because my t-shirt was rubbing against them. As I was approaching my house all I could think about was that episode of How I Met Your Mother in which Marshall encounters the same problem while training for a marathon so he puts Vaseline on them. Figured it was worth a shot...
... it felt really fucking weird. I mean it worked, but... feels weird, man.
Lots of Australians in this thread.

Just applied for a woolies nightshift job
can't wait to get rejected

I had a mudlark flying around my kitchen today, too stupid to fly through the big fucking window that was open.
In free-range environments chickens suffer from a higher mortality rate (due to exposure), increased disease, increased stereotypies like feather plucking, higher rates of cannibalism (when their beaks haven't been snipped) and pecking other chickens.
Bone breakage is less (around 50% experience a breakage in their lifetime as opposed to ~80% in cages), as are a few of the other issues with cage and barn systems, but they're still present.
Either way, they suffer tremendously. I doubt too many egg companies are going to try and sell free-range eggs on the basis that they have a higher mortality rate, so they suffer less.
Keeping a few chickens is great though, and their eggs are 10000x better than store-bought ones.
[editline]22nd November 2011[/editline]
In theory free-range is better, and if you could actually make the industry follow a range of rules and regulations then it would be better, but at present it's as shit as all the other options.
And it's not easy to simply 'make' the livestock industry do anything, considering how it works.
Do you just go to the Bailleu and read this shit in your spare time?
Do you just go to the Bailleu and read this shit in your spare time?
ah yes, what to do today
I know, I'll read about the consequences of free range egg farms!
nah, it's for my current breadth subject, we had a few tutorials and seminars on animal welfare
what are you doing for breadth subjects?
Not sure, forgot to enrol in any so I'll do it later. I did Internet Meets Society (which sucked) and Language and Power in Asian Societies for first year though.
HA!
So much for accepting no! I REFUSED to accept no, I was stubborn, and tenacious, I went back and forth between Coles and home, was on the phone to my local Coles and Coles HQ, I sent half a dozen emails, and now I have a job there!
They're still not sure why they were unable to contact me (they said I should have gotten an email at the very least, but for some reason I didn't), but it doesn't matter now because I cut through all of the bullshit red tape and got a job.
I win.
Haha. Congrats on the tenacity.

But you work at Coles.

Which as a uni student I NEED. It's the only place around that's in walking distance that's open past 5PM (because, for some strange reason, everything in this country closes fucking early), and if my uni time table next year is as screwed up as last semester's then I'm gonna NEED to be working somewhere with hours after 5 or 6PM.
As far as things go for me this is the perfect job at the moment. I'm hoping to also pick up a casual job for the holiday period for some extra cash.
