It'll add up slowly, as I'm sure you know. 120 hours seems like a long time, but it means that by the time you pass your driving test, you'll be confident enough to drive by yourself in most conditions. Anyhow, you're one up on me. When I did live at home, the only person who could drive with me was my mother, and, frankly, she's such an awful driver neither of us saw that as a legitimate option.
What university do you go to? Is it in the city?
One of my friends clocked up a whole four hours on her Ps before she ran over a possum, and she hasn't touched the driver's seat since. That's how I'd be, I think. Here's hoping that mouse survived.
Yeah, hopefully it'll all add up and I can get it soon. I'd like to be able to get a car and not have to rely on other people. Would also make getting a job infinitely easier. The only place I can really work at here is Coles (due to its long opening hours making it possible for me to work after uni). And, unfortunately, they aren't hiring me for some reason. There's nowhere else within a reasonable walking or cycling distance that's open late hours. There's a 24 hour Kmart in Werribee but it'd take like an hour to cycle there... and fuck cycling through Werribee at like midnight.
I can imagine feeling like shit after hitting a possum, but a mouse doesn't phase me too much. If I didn't hit it: phew. If I did... I'll just assume their brains aren't complex enough for them to be self-aware and it'll make me feel better.
What are you cunts doing saturday night?

I definitely understand the desire for independence. Being able to drive makes it much easier when you move out, too.
I think I'd feel worse after hitting a mouse; possums just seem more feral to me. I like rodents, though.
Are all the people adding me on Google+ you guys?

Learn to change gears better!
Dad can change gears without even using the clutch. Makes me feel so fucking useless. I'm still having trouble WITH the clutch (yesterday was the first time I took the manual for a proper drive).
How many South Australian are there on Facepunch? Most of you seem to be from NSW/VIC
Learn to change gears better!
the gearbox is fucked not me!
first jumps out of gear when the clutch is fully depressed (makes no sense at all) and the reverse gear... ohhhhhh dearrrrr.
Dad can change gears without even using the clutch.
easy! just not smart to do it too often. its how rally car drivers drive, insert the gear get on with it. just match the rpm to the sweet spot. not good for the gearbox though in the long term. might as well use that clutch you got there

Isn't it only not smart if you don't do it properly? If you do it properly and never grind the gears together then shouldn't the gears last just as long in theory as if you had used them 'normally'?
Also, how old is the car and what is it?
Isn't it only not smart if you don't do it properly? If you do it properly and never grind the gears together then shouldn't the gears last just as long in theory as if you had used them 'normally'?
you've got the gears going at (at least) 1000 revolutions per min - good luck getting the gear to go in without it jarring for even a split second. the clutch allows you to meet the gear rotation to the engine output - and so there is no jarring involved.
a gearbox that has gears dropped instead of gradually inserted is always going to last less than one that uses the clutch - just there might be more wear on the clutch
