I don't think there are any viable 'alternative" energy sources, atm, that can provide for us the same way coal does. Nuclear power, maybe, but that'll sadly never be considered.

i don't think, even with the compensation, households are not going to be required to dip into any other funds.
it is all too easy to say "oh we can rely on coal" but coal is a finite source of energy, it makes no sense to rely so heavily on it when we know that it will dissappear

yeah, eventually, but we can't just do a bob-brown and drop coal altogether. i'm for researching alternative energy, but it needs to be undertaken realistically - i'm pretty sure that, right now, there is no non-nuclear alternative-energy scheme that can support an entire nation now

Solar power definitely needs to be given greater consideration, when you look at the unused space (roofs and such) it is not unthinkable to believe that individual buildings could use both coal energy and energy they produce from the solar panels on their roofs
