I got lectured by some random at uni just before about how im ruining my life by having a ciggarette at 8 o'clock in the morning.
every cigarette is another 10 mins off your face's life. how could you live forever? [editline]24th August 2011[/editline]
Uni used a picture of me and then misquoted me about my ATAR, making it look like I needed SEAS to get into Melbourne when I ended up getting a high enough ATAR anyway. Bastards.
where did they use a picture of you?
On some brochure they're handing out at high schools. Friends from my school told me about it.
don't they have to ask you? :|
unlikely probably already agreed to something in a school contract years ago
Man i missed all the drama, goddamn
when was that, like 2 years ago?
that's not very nice. [editline]24th August 2011[/editline]
I got lectured by some random at uni just before about how im ruining my life by having a ciggarette at 8 o'clock in the morning.
Melbourne.
sorry ive always just associated you with being one of the youngest around here for a long while
Ahahahahahahaha, a simple -snip- would have sufficed. Actually no it wouldn't have, as thankfully everyone quoted it. Cheers cunce. Bastards.
You didn't get money? That's fucked. Do you have Jack Tan for international politics?
don't they have to ask you? :|
It was part of the going to schools and talking about Melbourne uni plus the talk I gave at Open Day on Sunday. They took pictures of us to make flyers for our talk, but then they misquoted what I wrote about going to Melbourne Uni, making it look like I got a worse ATAR but luckily good old Melbourne Connect came and rescued me. Contag I got money. I don't know the name of my politics tutor. She's got black frizzy hair and is far more intelligent than any other tutor I've ever had.
getting racks on racks on racks from being in uni information.
Once I finish school, I'm doing an apprenticeship with my dad. Uni sounds like too much effort.
back from the dead
hehehe, i'm no longer the baby in this thread :~)
you never were, I'm 16
Apprenticeships ain't bad, they still get good money once they're into full work. Was never an option for me though, too smart and all my joints are fucked up. The worst part about Uni I'm finding is the lack of class time. With school and even full time work you can separate when you work from when you don't. For Uni, you have no set time and have to figure it out yourself. If you're like me and delay on shit while you think, it consumes so much of your life. Unless I set strict times when I do shit, it's all I'm thinking about and ruins all relaxation time.
Once I finish school, I'm doing an apprenticeship with my dad. Uni sounds like too much effort.
have you worked with your dad before? [editline]23rd August 2011[/editline]
I think you guys gave me an anxiety attack, so fuck you on that regard, I really don't understand what you got from that.
lmao he snipped it
too smart
I'm sorry, did you just do a GuyWithTheName?
I'm sorry, did you just do a GuyWithTheName?
Pull your head out of your ass. I got a 40 and 42 in both of the top maths, that's not the kind of marks you would do an apprenticeship with.
Wow, you so smart. That doesn't mean you're too smart for an apprenticeship. I know of someone who got 98, got into Commerce and Monash, didn't like it, became an electrician. They is v smart.
If that's what they wanna do then then go for it. But if it's all the same, if you don't care what you do, what's the point in doing that when you could be using those skills? I've been getting a distinction average in my course, I've been tutoring my peers and I've never taken a book or written any notes the entire time. If I did an apprenticeship I'd probably get bored shitless, at least this is closer to my abilities.
have you worked with your dad before?
Yep. He's a good bloke, teachin me to be an electrician
got a small job for the september holidays, $30 an hour (!) not too bad
if you don't care what you do, what's the point in doing that when you could be using those skills?
There is a difference between being [potentially] under-employed and saying you're too smart for something.
I've been tutoring my peers and I've never taken a book or written any notes the entire time. If I did an apprenticeship I'd probably get bored shitless, at least this is closer to my abilities.
Great, good for you. Seriously Dev, why are you posting this stuff? This isn't the type of stuff I'd expect from you. There's no such thing as being too smart for an apprenticeship. You get accreditation after an apprenticeship much like how you get a degree after a uni course. But smarts doesn't get you qualified for either. I was more pointing out that you were seemingly condescending towards people who do apprenticeships by suggesting they're not smart. that's just not right.
I'm an A student and I'm doing a traineeship (p. much the same thing) working with your hands is pretty satisfying even if it doesn't take as much brainpower.

Maybe it's just me but tbh I think intelligent people are better spread through all walks of life. If you're actually as smart as you claim, do you know how successful you could be as an electrician? Managing your own practice and all that jazz. [editline]24th August 2011[/editline] Anyway, doing electrical (and other technical shit) work well requires intelligence.

Being a sparkie isn't an exceptionally demanding job. Wouldn't you rather spend a few more years learning so you can go on and have the skillset to easily manage your own business? Or complete an engineering degree so you have a wider skill set? I think wanting to do something because "money" is a stupid idea (Looking at you fireman Faren). If you enjoy working with your hands, why not do an hour of university a week and continue to develop in that regard as well. Doggunn, are you shitting me? Saying people who X always do Y is stupid, but you cannot deny that there is a greater proportion of fuckwits in the trades than else. Jesus Christ everyone here is stupid. There is no more intelligent or less intelligent as intelligence is not a single measure. I doubt you could even put it in a scalar measurement for that matter. To clarify my initial statement, I already had much of the knowledge and skills for my course when I started it and I think in a way that is well suited to it. It is a talent in this specific field, not general intelligence.
sorry what?
When you were wondering about becoming a fireman, the money was a huge point of it? I'm not saying that, I'm saying if you're intelligent enough you should do it, even on a part-time basis, to broaden your understanding of the world, especially considering so many people don't get the chance. And yes, there are different sets of skills or intelligences, but one's ability to understand a range of things is dependent on a specific kind of intelligence that some people don't have.
