They're not predatory, if you leave them alone they leave you alone. They are very territorial though and if you're stupid enough to wander too close to their home, then you probably deserve it.

They don't USUALLY sound like that, but it wouldn't surprise me if one or two did.

I swear they're more intelligent than people give them credit for. Thinking about it now I'm convinced that maybe they can imitate the sounds of other animals.
I remember camping one time, and a bunch of brits came up in this "Brits around Australia" bus.
They didn't respect the wildlife at all, no offerings to the crocs, no laying gumnuts over the fauna to prevent strangulation.
The next day, I tell you, one of them had been mauled by a drop bear who came down while the dude was on the phone, up the road. Blood streaming off his face, his right hand scarred from trying to detach the drop bear from his face.
Nasty stuff.
Just hope they don't get that legislation through making it your duty to help someone if they're putting themselves unknowingly in danger like if you know First Aid. Just because a bunch of stupid brits got fucked up and no-one warned them, it's suddenly our fault.
It's a serious offence too. You just laugh at someone doing something stupid and you could end up in jail for negligence. Shit sucks.

I rememeber a few years back a man in the Melbourne CBD tried to help a woman who was getting kidnapped/robbed/raped I'm not sure which, and he was just shot and killed.
Bit of a lose/lose situation.
Well it's not like you're going to be in danger if you warn them about drop bears and other shit rather than trying to pull a gun off someone.
They'd probably never even take us seriously about drop bears so it's a stupid piece that's not going to do anything. Not my fault if he thought I was just taking the piss when I told him not to put the tent up under that tree.

I had one in my backyard that always woke me up early in the morning with it's dickish laugh (back when I lived in Queensland).
A kookaburra that used to live near my old house used to attack the neighbour's dog whenever it barked but not ours
