that's a pessimistic view an alternate understanding is that he serves as the bridge between these culture, and that's not a dichotomous binary of aboriginal/australian, because aboriginal and australian are imagined categories (at least according to anderson in his imagined communities), and that the boy is bravely forging a new identity - that of the contemporary aboriginal australian, much like what most transmigration scholars say about the transmigrasi and various disaporas around the globe of course you could use that as your 'an alternate interpretation is... but that is false because...' our markers always like that, because they were getting double the interpretations for the price of one comment
Oooo, I'm glad I made the compulsive decision to post this here, because you've actually given me an insight I initially overlooked. I was thinking pessimistically because my prescribed text is Peter Skrzynecki's Immigrant Chronicle, and anyone that is familiar with the man or his poetry will testify that he's a whiny old bastard that spends the entire compilation being torn between his Polish heritage or his Australian culture. It's hard to remain positive when you've been studying that drivel for the last few hours, but thanks for the comments! Well, that and the artwork itself is quite dismal looking. See for yourselves:
Talking about drivel, did anyone study Philip Larkin? Jesus Christ. [editline]17th October 2011[/editline] Dark_Light, now that I've seen the artwork, you've done an amazing job.
Haha cheers dude. Anonymous confirmation from the Internet, the best kind.
Haters gonna hate! [editline]17th October 2011[/editline] Is this for English, by the way?
that's quite the depressing painting, I can see that Skrzynecki was a cheery guy I'd throw the word 'colonial' in there about the scene, because colonialism is immensely important to Australia and aborigines and literary theory and depending who you talk to, international relations theory and everything else under the sun
I'll add it to my notes ty. And yeah it's for English.
If it means anything, Contag and I both got 40+ scores for English. [editline]17th October 2011[/editline] For the exam, if you talk about 'edgy' taboo topics, they mark you up. I talked about anorexia from a sufferer's perspective, and my creative writing piece was a girl talking to her dead twin who committed suicide because she was born the wrong gender. I got an A+. It's all a game.

Not the one I've read about. "After a brief visit to St Pius X College and in late 2008 in order to discuss 'Immigrant Chronicle', Skrzynecki was criticized for his cynical views and poor interpretation of questions asked by students. During this encounter many students also made remarks regarding the disconnection that he feels with his father in 'Feliks Skrzynecki', however the author rebuked these claims, stating that students were reaching too far into the text, when previously he had stated in an opening speech that students were free to interpret and delve into the text as much as they liked, and that there was no 'wrong' answer. Ultimately this encounter left students with a poor image of Skrzynecki, deeming him to be somewhat reclusive about the true meanings behind his poems." I read elsewhere that one student (at another school on another visit) made a statement about a scene and if it had a particular meaning, and so Skrzynecki made the child stand up and say aloud to the class, "It's just a simile." He then went on to say, "You kids are ruining my poetry by reading too far into it. This is why I tried to stop them from adding it to the HSC texts list." Sure makes studying his poetry fun.
I was being sarcastic I like how it appears that thy added him to the list just to spite him
Contag wrote about an Aboriginal boy who was shunned from his community for being too western, so similar kind of themes. He got an A+, too.

My last creative piece was written from the perspective of a heroin addict. It even included a fairly detailed scene of him shooting up. Scored 14/15 for that assessment. I'm just hoping I'm able to adapt that story to the creative writing part of tomorrow's paper.
And he was gay, too. Ticking off those minority boxes.
I was being sarcastic I like how it appears that thy added him to the list just to spite him
Sarcasm, of course >___>. I wanted an excuse to share that about him anyway. [editline]18th October 2011[/editline] These replies are all over the place, and in any case I'm distracting myself from what I should be doing, so I should get back into it and hopefully get to sleep sooner rather than later. Thank you both for all of the pointers, they're much appreciated.

Someone did that at our school, except they wrote explicitly, "This is my own experience." Which it was. They were reported to social services.
a homosexual aboriginal boy thank you I should have written that he had HIV as well and was molested instant state's award
Was that the same person who tried to sell Marcus drugs?
Different person. That person was in our grade, the heroin addict was that faux punk rock girl a year below us who drew pictures of me in class and was in love with you. I love our old school.
Oh yeah, that's right lol reported to social services, like they could have done anything
sup blokeys
I was fucking stupid in year 12 I don't know how I did even vaguely well, I think I just used words like dichotomy and juxtapose until my teachers assumed I knew what I was talking about.
Gimme the year 12 exams now and I'd ace them. Except IT that subject was shit either way. I dunno what my English teacher thought of me, I took a few rebellious edgy teen stances on the issues ones and did a few pro-racism and pro-terrorism pieces. I reckon nowadays I could do them and do a good job but back then it was just a mess with no substance.

That's pretty much how it works. [editline]18th October 2011[/editline]
Gimme the year 12 exams now and I'd ace them.
How old are you now?
Why the fuck would you give a stimulus then say you 'may' use it fucking no-one will [editline]18th October 2011[/editline] the exam was stupid btw
How old are you now?
21 but did exams in '07.
Oh god everything I studied was not in the IPT exam. I finished it in an hour and a half and only wrote a page of shit for each question. When I finished so early I thought something was wrong and I looked around and everyone was writing so much stuff just for one question. Also everything I wrote was made up from the top of my head.
Oh God that feeling. Bad luck dude. How was English? I feel I did alright, I got my story out which I'm happy with, maybe a 13-14/15 there. My essay was shit but still at least 11-12/15, and my short answers were quite good as well so probably 12-13/15. Overall I reckon I scored at least 80%. Tomorrow's paper will be quite stressful though, I'm off to have a nap then I need to brush up on my notes.
someone please explain the QLD OP... wtf is that shit

Just because people tend to word-vomit doesn't mean that they did a good job; sometimes being concise is preferable. Because you're being marked by a random person who spends ~7 - 10 minutes marking each exam, you just don't know how you're going to be marked. What's for tomorrow? [editline]18th October 2011[/editline]
21 but did exams in '07.
Huh. You look way older.
English was fine, linked my response to the question, just didn't write enough about techniques, I'll try better in paper 2 tomorrow.
