You only really need one thread but flaming and trolling will be treated as always. And creating accounts to flame and troll will be treated as always. This is how facepunch has always operated.
A good amount of people that post in this thread (like me) support GG and feminism. So I wonder how anti GG see the people in this thread. To them am I a misogynist, even though I support the idea of better representation of females in games while also supporting ethics in journalism? The misogynistic assholes and the "le drink male tears" crowd would get banned for shitposting in a millisecond if they even bothered to make an account just to post on facepunch. This might be a good opportunity for "normal" GG and anti GG to interact with each other in a neutral environment and find out all the things we have in common. This stupid MC griefing might turn into the beginning of our two groups merging.
On upper levels it is not about feminism. It is corrupted people trying to keep their power by invalidating their opposition and what's a better way to do it than to call them women hating violent nerds? Whoever started it successfully baited feminists into believing GG is sexist and to turn them against GG. The corrupted AGG women are also not afraid of using "I'm a woman being harassed" card. By doing that they also baited uninformed people into being AGG since they believe GG is evil women hating nazi party. Whoever is playing top in AGG is fairly clever I'd say. They manipulate many social groups to support them through easy to misunderstand information. When this happened, GG lost a lot of credibility and now anything GG side does can be easily painted in negative light. Truth matters little when a lot of AGG people believe what they do. Hell, look at all the mainstream media. GG is painted as some devil that needs to be eradicated. AGG is good at pushing propaganda. It doesn't help that it actually isn't all that easy to find unbiased sources to educate yourself. Most people believe what they see in the news and when it comes to GG, news are not kind to that movement.
I don't think they need a different thread though, we should all get thrown in here with pizza and a ping pong table and have the mods lock the door behind us until we work it out. This "split" in the gaming community is dumb, in no way should two groups of rational people with similar goals be so hostile towards each other.
It doesn't make any sense, it's just that these people believe anything these journalists/their feminist heroes will say - "it's not about corruption it's about SEXISM!" It just sort of increased the hatred for those sites even more - this was going to happen one way or the other eventually, with the way everybody has been acting in gaming lately. So much money and very little creativity.
Every aGG person I've seen on Facepunch unironically believes GG is misogynistic hate movement and everyone in it is a conservative, right-wing, red pill fedora tipper. They don't want to have a discussion or a debate, they just want to make drive-by shitposts about how awful we all are for having the gall to actually care about our hobby. If anything they've convinced me that SJW culture isn't actually about social justice or helping minorities, its about giving closeted bullies having a way to feel superior to other people. But hey, that kind of posting is what got MaxofS2D and SigmaLamda permabanned, so maybe giving them a place to shitpost wouldn't be a bad idea.
I'm not, it seems like it'd be a prime way to attract inter-thread warfare and arguing. I'm not exactly sure what an anti thread would even talk about, most of the people on this forum who are anti are that way because they either hate the users in the gamergate thread already, or they don't engage with it all that much and want it to go away. What do they talk about?
well as this is the corruption in gaming journalism thread and not exclusively a gamergate thread, an anti thread would be corruption denial thread. not sure that would be too populated
someone posted about it on 8chan's /gamergate/ e-celeb thread http://8ch.net/gamergate/res/356279.html#q381767

If they can't bring any to the table then they obviously have nothing to discuss. "drive by shitposting" is basically how I would describe every one of them I have seen on FP so far, though. I wish a couple of them would ask questions rather then creating arguments.

tumblr is great too because you choose what shitposts you wanna see
They already have that place, it's called Tumblr.
I used to like that site. :-/

Those gamers are going to keep gaming though, it's their hobby, people who are here to claim harassment and make a quick buck will eventually leave. I was anti gg, I "knew" gg was just a bunch of misogynistic trolls, and I had a lot of evidence of that. (It's called confirmation bias) Eventually though, I heard someone somewhere talk shit about TB, and I know about TB, he's not a misogynistic troll. So I looked into it, and decided that I actually had quite a lot in common with GG. That right there is what is going to cause this spectacle to end, when prominent gamers like TB or (I can't remember but I think he's stated he's neutral) pewdiepie get called misogynist simply because they are neutral.
I used to like that site. :-/
It's what you make of it really. I use it to look at art and photography and architecture stuff and see nothing about the worst side of it because I don't follow anyone who talks about that stupid shit.
The longer this goes on the more likely people are going to research into it and realize that the claims of journalists are very much exaggerated and maybe realize that the ethical breaches may ring some truth to them.
Can someone explain to me why GamerGate can't be about journalism AND sexism in the gaming industry Game Journalism is shit and there's too much hate towards women in the industry, what does that make me?
Can someone explain to me why GamerGate can't be about journalism AND sexism in the gaming industry Game Journalism is shit and there's too much hate towards women in the industry, what does that make me?
A GG-neutral.
Can someone explain to me why GamerGate can't be about journalism AND sexism in the gaming industry Game Journalism is shit and there's too much hate towards women in the industry, what does that make me?
the only criteria for pro-gg is that you do not support corruption in the gaming industry. so ya, your gg or neutral.
Can someone explain to me why GamerGate can't be about journalism AND sexism in the gaming industry Game Journalism is shit and there's too much hate towards women in the industry, what does that make me?
Gamergate is a vague label, if you want to push against sexism in gaming, go for it. Just don't shame women in the process like the radicals we actively fight against have done - they only care about money, attention and power. This is the "Corruption in Games Journalism" thread though, so we tend to lean more towards fixing journalism before remnants of sexism.
A GG-neutral.
Is this a real thing because I never hear about it. I only hear about one side or the other, not both. It's usually just people saying "Im ProGG" , "Im AntiGG", "BOTH SIDES ARE PLEBS", but not "Both sides have some decent points yet they have some awful points"
Is this a real thing because I never hear about it. I only hear about one side or the other, not both. It's usually just people saying "Im ProGG" , "Im AntiGG", "BOTH SIDES ARE PLEBS", but not "Both sides have some decent points yet they have some awful points"
I'm sure lots of people think that way, but the radical nature of this whole thing, where even attempting to be neutral get's you labelled as something you don't want to be, it's hard not to get pulled into one side - so most people avoid the topic altogether. It is extremely difficult to remain neutral after people start posting crap about you or send you threats (Even when I tried to be neutral and interview everybody I got a gang of people sending me death threats.)
On the subject of how horrible GG looks to the outside media, I don't think it really matters. Mass effect is a sex simulator, gta is a murder simulator, games cause autism, games stunt social development, games turn your brain to mush, games cause school shooting, now games cause misogyny. We've always looked like shit, and probably will continue to for a long time. There's no use worrying about what non-gamers think of the game industry, we need to focus on our own.
Is this a real thing because I never hear about it. I only hear about one side or the other, not both. The problem, I feel, is that those kinds of people get lumped into GG by journalists.

If you're neutral you just sort of critique both sides.

And when it comes to movements you need people on your side to achieve your goals.

Mainstream media always hated gaming industry and gaming community, while it doesn't seem to want to change it's position after this past decades.
It does matter. A whole lot. Unlike videogames, which are products, GG is a movement.
What are people concerned about? "oh no a con artist has labeled facepunch as the Vatican of misogyny and harassment"
Sweet album name for a alternative metal band.
Gamergate isn't a movement it's a scandal We're the gamers, we are our own side I've never understood why everyone accepted it as a label towards themselves, it's as strange as calling yourself a watergater. It also just makes you look like a seperate entity than gamers and makes it easier for journos to attack us.
The longer this goes on the more likely people are going to research into it and realize that the claims of journalists are very much exaggerated and maybe realize that the ethical breaches may ring some truth to them.
To be honest, the SVU episode might have been the biggest wake-up call because it is pretty much what the journos and AGG have been shouting for the last few months and the result was an episode so ridiculous that nobody in the world could believe any of that would have really happened. Which is all the more ironic considering how much effort AGG did to parrot their lies around to the point that the Wikipedia article about Gamergate was chockfull of bias, which is partially thanks to r/gamerghazi literally bribing editors to push the AGG narrative, only for them to blow it up in their face that hard thanks to a show made by Dick Wolf and Speed Weed having based that one episode on what was said on Wikipedia and on AGG sites like Kotaku.
hi indie game devs please remove the biggest curator on steam off your game page if he recommends your game thanks https://archive.today/wfa6v
