If you wanted an official group to help give gamers representation, having someone with a name behind it was key. Just someone on a forum asking for a union was never going to work. But Mark Kern? That definitely has potential.
who the fuck is mark kern I know who he is, but I'm raising this point here. I can bet you none of my friends know who he is (and I sure has hell didn't before he entered this whole debacle). [editline]8th March 2015[/editline] I'm skeptical, but hopeful.
Mark Kern has made a non-union group alternative to IGF : https://twitter.com/League4Gamers Hopefully it get's somewhere.
So... what? Is this EFF for vidya?

[editline]8th March 2015[/editline] I'm skeptical, but hopeful.
If it got some support from other sympathetic devs, I can see it having a future. The problem is a lot of devs probably won't touch it purely out of the fear that being branded as GG-sympathetic will get them shat on by the gaming media.
/r/KiA got featured as today's /r/subredditoftheday: http://np.reddit.com/r/subredditoftheday/comments/2yb80x/march_8th_2015_rkotakuinaction_gaming_journalism/
That is just lovely, an amazing way to piss on their parade. Also, my first instinct was to rate straight from that link, but then I remembered the tendency for those who rate from external links to be shadow banned. I use reddit once a year, but I have no desire for that to happen.
The amount of anger in the comments, to be expected. Although :
When this #GamerGate stuff started there was a lot of talk about it in our back room. I've made the specifics of it clear elsewhere if you're interested. We were all caught between a rock and a hard place, but some of us had different ideas of getting out of that position. Mine was that we treat it like any other news story: allow discussion and links, but ban direct harassment and doxing. That was always the policy. Others wanted complete censorship. Obviously, that's what they went with.
Well. As not shocking as it is for games, it's pretty incredible that the policy was literally complete censorship. Also the fact he got accused, his reputation destroyed and as a direct result was harassed by angry reddit users just shows how incompetent and emotional the mods were.

We're generally observers, outside the conflict. A few of us support it, a couple dislike it, most don't care. I didn't want GamerGate to be censored on /r/Games when I moderated it. I got removed and it got censored. It won't be censored on /r/SubredditOfTheDay. Bet on that.
P.S the reason the Google tweet was so aggressive was in fact a community manager who tweets about gamergate almost daily in a negative light. And I was right- it was an employee who had different opinions, the community manager used executive power to remove it and make that newer tweet. Not going to post anymore info since you don't really need to know, but thought you should know what happened. If you need evidence, go on KiA. Not gonna post any names.

The GamerGhazi thread about that is hilarious. It sounds reads like a bunch of kids.
girl who is pro-gger got kicked from xenoverse tournament because the management was afraid of being called mysoginists if she lost. http://archive.today/WgdKM political correctness has gone to the point people are scared of letting girls play because it might offend someone if they lose. thanks corrupt game media
That is still fairly mysoginistic.
What the hell Xenoverse has ranked matches?
If you think about it, even though it's sad for the girl, it's still a win since more people will see how AGG fucked up a lot of shit, even outside of Journalism. Hopefully the girl understands and isn't too mad about it.
So... what? Is this EFF for vidya?
Only if it's going to be very professional. The EFF is one of the most uncontroversial organisations I know, especially in the tech sector.

Not just smashing shit furious, but 'blood for the blood god' furious.
That is still fairly mysoginistic.
That is much worse than letting her play!

Especially in that case it would have been so easy to DM instead of leaving evidence all over the place. Which means just random people online being stupid, which should be nothing to get upset about afaik.
"We're scared of being labeled as mysoginistic, so to prevent that, we are going to discriminate against you for being a woman"
That guy is brave to stand up for that sort of shenanigans. Commendable.
It's as easy as remembering that they can't do anything to you.
It's as easy as remembering that they can't do anything to you.
Based ex-/r/games mod has come here. I can die in piece now. JK Good to see you hanging here, hope you enjoy it.

JK Good to see you hanging here, hope you enjoy it.
I've been using Facepunch since 2012, gold member on my other account. I just decided to make a new one for this. If you happen to have any questions for me I'll be watching the thread. I got a bunch of stuff to do today but I can always take the time to help out Facepunch. This KIA thing is only one of three things I'm doing today. I'm sure at least another will end up being posted on here.

I think i got aids by reading this.
this industry is a fucking joke i genuinely hope it crashes [editline]8th March 2015[/editline] thats an honest game journo opinion right there because i dont care anymore. video games are becoming buggier, glitchier and just overall worse by each release and on top of that we have people throwing fits over trivial issues. yeah sure theres the rare exception of a polished game but 1 good game every blue moon doesnt cut it
Been seeing a lot of promising games for this year though, specially with Unreal Engine. Unreal Tournament looks like THE game we have been waiting for, etc.
Who is Arthur Boop Gies?
Who is Arthur Boop Gies?
Writer for Polygon. I can say other mean things about him, but that twitter convo gives a good view already.
