Crime shows making episodes about gaming are the funniest shit
They manage to be extremely stereotypical and at the same time have no clue about gaming culture (or even how games work really) and come up with absurd plots
There's actually a running bet on any show written by writers repped by CAA with nerds or gaming to make it as absurd and cringingly tech ignorant/offensive as possible.
apparently someone leaked that plot of the law and order ep a week ago
It involves an Indian girl coming out with an Amazon Warriors MMO and "gamergate" kidnapping her for sleeping her way to the top or some shit.

I thought law and order always did their absolute best to make it look like video games caused children to commit horrible acts of violence, actually not even just video games, anything that is remotely related to the internet is corrupting children or allowing men to rape your children.
I guess my point is that I'm not surprised, they're technophobic.

when you have someone named "speed weed" and "dick wolf" writing your shows it aint a wonder why law and order is terrible
I thought I should say this, I came in looking to get some of your opinions earlier on GG, since I wasn't sure who I should support and what GG is about.
Just thought you guys might be happy to know that I decided that GG is a good thing for games as an art form. It really doesn't matter what the movement is about or what you each as individuals believe is best for the future of gaming. Talking to you guys, and various other GGrs has shown me that you care about games, and you're willing to talk about your opinions without talking over other ones. As far as I'm concerned the group you've all created will have effects on gaming and gaming culture in the future.
Someone needs to make a site where you can search the name of a game and get a list of AGG people involved in its creation, which leads to a list of all the bullying, harassment, sexism, hypocrisy and dumb tweets, blogs, articles and such associated with them.
I don't really want to give hard earned money to people who want to paint me as scum so they can feel good about themselves.

Like, I really love Homeworld, and I want to buy HW remastered, but I also don't want to give money to a company that employs Anthony Burch.

The plot sounds like what YOU ARE NOT supposed to do in this industry though. So who, if this is legit, is it shaming? Because so far the media has skewed this one way.
Reminder: MSNBC is owned by NBC (no way!). The MS part (Microsoft) pulled out way back when, but it's still called MSNBC.

Writers take ideas from news all the time, I wouldn't look into this too deeply
And mainstream media never had any problems with showing gamers as sociopaths so really there's nothing new or surprising if that was the case
In the Law and Order thing I was halfway expecting them to make an internet game critic a rapist in a surprise twist after he presents himself to be saner and more rational than most involved even after fighting with cancer and having a wife and then he is shown to be leaders of the gamergaters and when they catch him he calls a female officer a bitch and credits roll.
I hope you get what I mean. Because I have watched more or less every SVU episode and thats about the amount of subtlety you can expect.
this is what you can expect from SVU

This is the stuff of nightmares :v:
I can't wait to see how many SJWs use the ep of Law and Order to further promote their views.
Wouldn't doubt a lot of people joining AGG after the episode too. Contrary to popular saying, people often believe a lot of what they see on television.
It won't help that you can replace 'gamergate' with 'terrorists' and it'd still "make sense" within the context of the episode. Certainly not a positive PR boost. (that is, assuming it's real)
it will probably shit on both sides because the law and order writers dont give a fuck

Grizzled detective walks on set.
"Looks like we've got a kidnapping."
Grizzled lady detective walks on set.
"Hold on Grizzle, it looks like there's something not right here."
Grizzled detective arches a grizzled brow.
"Yeah, Grizzel?"
Grizzled lady detective does a poor man's version of a sherlock scan.
Both nod at something they don't clearly elucidate on as being important.
Five meaningless interrogations that violate the U.S. Constitution later, they're interviewing a friend of the kindapped woman's.
"So you're telling us she's been kidnapped before?"
"Oh yeah, all the time. It gets her ton of FreeLanker bux."
"Freelanker bux?"
"Oh yeah. It's this huge funding platform on line. People pay to keep victims of horrible crimes ahead. You know, charity!"
Grizzled detective and Grizzled lady detective exchange a glance. It would be sexual if it was clear they hadn't exchanged their sex organs for badges years ago.
Old detective purses his lips and looks sour.
"The Gamer's Liberation Front let the woman go a few hours ago. They said they never meant to hurt anyone."
Old detective purses his lips harder.
"I know a baloney when it's in my shoe kid."
Two bizzare confessions , some illegal acquried evidence that would fold in court faster than "Habeas Fuckass" and some oddly racist undertones later, Grizzled Detective has the kidnapped woman and the kidnappers in seperate rooms.
"Okay, talk, cause the other guys will flip."
"ITS ALL A SCHEME TO PLAY EVERYONE AGAINST EACHOTHER."
"Nailed it. Book 'em."
There’s a curious tendency with complaints of this sort to reify the Internet or reify specific websites, to personify "Tumblr" or "Twitter" as being a unified group of people who all hold the same positions and all use the same tactics. And then to treat this horrifying unified movement of Internet denizens as very, very scary.
because you've never done the exact some thing, right chu
Yesterday or so, I made a post on Tumblr sharing the news about the #ZeroBiscuit hashtag on Twitter, about how it got hijacked.
http://emperor-vagak.tumblr.com/post/109417341538/meanwhile-on-gamergate
Now there's an image circulating on the hashtag that has the exact same words from that post, including the header.

I'm not sure how to feel about this.
it will probably shit on both sides because the law and order writers dont give a fuck
Yeah what's going to happen is that the Gamergate knockoff is going to be a smokescreen for the real perp who has no connection to it or for a scheme where the victim made everything up. There'll be some poo-pooing on Gamergate for being sexist neckbeards at the start of the episode but that's it.
is this the thread im supposed to hate women in

i can't stop laughing
Having watched a fair amount of (old) Law & Order, this might really turn out either way.
Last time I watched it the writers weren't idiots and a lot of episodes turned out differently than you'd expect from the TV magazine blurb.
Even if they play it completely straight there's a good chance they'll dance circles around any media outlet reporting on the topic in terms of not ([editline]edit[/editline] believably) stereotyping the parties/groups involved.
