Corruption in Gaming Journalism Discussion V2 - Back from the dead!

Interesting it may be, e-celeb BS it also.
Here's an interesting post from KotakuInAction about why sites are suddenly shifting towards social justice and trying to tone down content to appeal to extreme progressives:
I used to do some work for an agency that specifically targetted SJWs. They were basically liberal, middle-class, university educated white women and their low-status male admirers. It is profitable. They do spend lots of money. Most of the famous SJWs are trust-fund babies. The working SJWs (and there are plenty) aren't as loud and don't spend so much time begging for you to supplement their trust fund or to fund their cutting edge game, made in game-maker, about being cat-called (games are art and therefore don't have to be fun, shitlord).
They are the types of people who buy "male tears" mugs or t-shirts with "smash the patriarchy" written on them or a quilt with "die cis scum" embroided on it and then post photos of themselves on Tumblr (with a referral link to where they bought that item).
One of the things about the agency's target demographic was the amount they would spend on worthless shit. Not only would they buy it, they would then tweet about it and write about it on their Tumblr and Facebook. They would post pictures of themselves with the item they'd been sold (by an entirely male-owned company), which led to more sales of these high-profit-margin items. These people are prolific consumers. They click ads, they fall for fake marketeer profiles because they hear what they want to hear. They are a money maker. They're the left's equivalent of people who'd buy anything with an American flag on for the years following 9/11. They're people who you could market an item to by putting the prefix "Freedom" in front of a product name. They're just like the people who'd buy any old shit with a bald eagle on it. They are just like the people who buy "from my cold dead hands" pro-gun bumper stickers. They're a demographic that want people to know their opinions and wear it on their sleeve and on their car.
They are a demographic that reddit wants. Reddit exists to make money (which it has failed to do so far). They are a demographic that 4chan wants. Moot wants to make more money and he isn't going to do it through bunch of tech-savvy geeks who love piracy. Reddit and 4Chan don't want people who know what Adblock is. They want people who will buy a t-shirt made in a Taiwanese sweatshop with a pro-feminist message on it (and 500% mark-up). How do you attract those people? You pander to them. You make spaces safe so that they'll come in. You cleanse your site of the "undesirables" that are there so that they will come and spend.
What we're seeing here is a kind of gentrification of high-traffic parts of the internet. These sites want to make money and they're not going to do it through some ad-block, VPN, piratebay, google-fu expert who posts things that makes the ladies want to faint.
You see this sort of thing in music festivals. The festivals are made good by members of the counter-culture, but when the festivals start attracting big names, suddenly ticket prices climb, drugs are banned completely, nakedness, improptu perfomances, and general anarchy are stopped and it becomes some homogenised, middle-class-mother-friendly pop concert with Hummus everywhere and excellent baby-changing facilities. Why? Because dirty hippies don't spend as much money as middle class moms and university-educated white girls.
A bit of of it makes sense. The whole thing is basically a scheme to lure in millenials to sites and keep them. And by millenials, I mean the ones they can actually make a profit off of, not the Google-fu expert that has Adblock Plus and knows exactly how to push someone's buttons. I'm not too sure on the products bit considering how much of the "anti-oppression" stuff is either hand-made by a person or bought through a hole in the wall Esty store.
It also makes me believe that extremist SJ-types are becoming the American left's Tea Party: overly-trusting people that'll blindly agree with anything as long as it uses the right words and phrasing, extremely vocal about their beliefs yet really don't know a lot about them, and are very intolerant of wrongthink. They won't be setting the world on fire in terms of profits, but you can squeeze out some good bucks if you target them as part of a niche.

Well I don't have a link to it specifically, nor a link to the posts in the previous thread but Encyclopedia Dramatica explains it and has links to some archived posts.

Pretty interesting video on how the extra credits guy is a total fool and goes through a lot of the insanity SJW showed in the past

fuck
is anything even going to happen to these people or are these supposed court cases ever going to show up?
theres been no indication that these people will actually be sued or jailed.

Court cases are in some cases private, investigations and other official activities definitely so.
You can't really ask an IRS agent to disclose when they're jumping that one girl who stole the guitar console money or an FBI agent when they'll finally arrest all members of the IGF.
As for lawsuits, I simply don't know if they're public or not.

it's a long term battle, friend. it takes an indeterminate amount of time to build a case against somebody/file charges. there are also rumors that certain people have already been confronted by the fbi for certain things, and that there is at least one acting as an informant.
considering how some anti-ggers have gone silent/much more subdued than previously, i wouldn't NOT believe it.
EDIT: to answer the above, lawsuits are public.

Has James apologized to TB yet?
Totalbiscuit's and a few others comments are back on the ABC news Gamergate YouTube video.

Have any big anti-GG actually been permanently harassed off Twitter? I've seen some people leave for like, a week, but never any more than that.
[editline]2nd February 2015[/editline]
I just find it so strange that they're constantly lambasting us because we've apparently driven everyone off social networks (when normally it's just some random dickheads saying some nasty shit), whereas most of the GG people who've left Twitter have been specifically harassed by a single person or very small group of people over a very long period.
First I've heard of that.
It was revealed through her (vomit inducing) IRC logs hacked through an SQL injection on her Final Fantasy piracy website.
A few people downloaded them independently as far as I can tell, so they are real with a high probability.
Why is extra credits anti-GG anyway? Why is Jim Sterling anti-GG?
God I can't get my head around this shit, both are content creators that I've watched since around their creation and I would like to think that I know a decent amount about how they think.
EC, to my knowledge, has always done their very best to stay as far away from controversy as they can. Issuing a statement, for OR against GG isn't something I would expect from them until after this has all died down. Then James from EC says TB is a leader of GG, along with all the other slander? He's a smart guy, I know he is, I think I can reasonably assume he knew he was wrong before opening his mouth, but I also don't see WHY! Why James? Why put your credibility on the line for some epic zingers against TB?
GG has really changed my perspective about who I view as a trustworthy pundit. I hope that the "GG is all misogyny all the time" line from the anti-GG goes away sooner rather than later, because when they do drop it, I think some very interesting and industry changing conversations are going to be had.

Nepotism.
They are friends with some extremely unprofessional people and don't have the integrity to put truth before friendship where it matters.

Nepotism.
I've seen people say that before, and pardon me, but I can't tell if you are being sarcastic or not, so I'm going to take you seriously.
Nepotism works by giving jobs to friends or family; EC's audience is almost completely made up of games enthusiasts or developers. As you can see above in this thread, being so anti-GG to the point that they start slandering people lost them quite a bit of subs, which hurts their wallet, which may mean less jobs for them to offer.
I feel like they wanted to be seen as progressive maybe? It's possible they actually believed that "misogyny = GG" (I think that seems believable since research has never really been their strong suit) and from there only listened to anti-GG outlets, which may have mentioned that TB was the leader of GG and misogynist, I guess?
I know this is all speculation but damn it just blows my mind that these people are willing to hurt themselves by slandering someone, solely because they hate this hashtag so much.
Who controls RationalWiki?
This seems a bit one-sided, and irrational.
Literally none of Gamergate's advocates' claims of "what really happened" hold up under scrutiny — including claims that may initially seem plausible.
That line needs a citation so bad I can taste it.
Bonus points for mentioning that even the plausible explanations are false without further explaining why something that is plausible is inherently false.

"initially seem plausible"
Wow that's the most passive aggressive bias I've ever seen. The implication that claims were never plausible to begin with.
I want to ask GG supporters, what do you think of people who say stuff like "both sides are stupid" or similar?

You know the "neutrality is tacit agreement" thing? They get pressured into making public statements by their friends. Exact same thing happened with wolfire.

The name alone should give you a hint on how pretentious it is. It caters to people who want a place to show the world that only they know the "REAL truth". Not surprising Ryulong tried to infiltrate it after getting booted off wikipedia for being a biased fool

Years, and will use their trust fund and white knight intel money to cop plea bargains. You can expect rather little justice from the justice system, Valkenburg is already venue-angling as we speak and you can expect her to be mysteriously absent from the US for as long as is financially feasible.

As someone inculcated in game and character design 4lyfe 420 yolo mlg, I can assure the kind of developers that listen to extra credit are the kind that can afford to because they haven't the faintest idea what "crunch time" means. I've actually used a couple of their missives as bullet pointed "how to lose your core audience, and therefore your casual audience" presentations.
I want to ask GG supporters, what do you think of people who say stuff like "both sides are stupid" or similar?
Its a fucking copout at best. Most of the time I see that ever said is so that someone can feel superior to both sides.
I want to ask GG supporters, what do you think of people who say stuff like "both sides are stupid" or similar?
chances are that person just doesn't care and if they don't want to learn, they should just stay away from the issue.

Worst thing imo is when people say "shouldn't you have something else to do lmao you loser".
Like seriously its not a whole lot of effort to post on a forum about a thing and it not be the only thing you care about. GG is on the low list of my priorities, but it don't take a whole lot to talk about it.
