Corruption in Gaming Journalism Discussion V2 - Back from the dead!

How much of a professional victim do you have to be to say that people would only dislike your game because they support Gamergate?
... Considering how relaxed Brianna has been lately, I'm starting to wondering if Frank is telling her what to say.

Guys just stop, stop worrying about this shit.
Please, look at the time of the class, its a fucking 60 minute class.
Its an elective.
Its a shit elective.
Its like getting mad at all the other extremely niche and garbage social justice electives that mean fuck all.
Im serious, think of yourself, and your friends, and people you have played games with. Then think what would be going through your head and their heads if you fucking saw this posted on some board at your school.
You would laugh at it and move on, and the class would probably consist of a bunch of nobodys from your school, probably the same group that would make a protest during school lunch that killing animals for food is bad. One of the peoples names in the class would be Kelsey as well.
Anyone that actually likes games and has a brain realizes shit like that means nothing.
Its a god damn high school class, and no ones lining up for shit like that lol.
Brianna is a professional victim. The large majority of her success comes from the negative reactions to her, which pretty much equals free publicity.
She is not relevant. You people really need to stop feeding her and others like her attention.
I promised myself not to judge the game but I will say something about their marketing. It's 2015. We have a free market. If there is a demand, you can set up that supply on your own. They have their own website. Unless they get DDOSed they are able to sell their game there. There is literally nothing else that could keep them from selling it.
I'm getting increasingly tired of the way they're advertising. "Support feminism and buy our game! If you don't buy our game then feminism dies and misogyny wins! Also our harassers win!" I mean, for fucks sake, she's using patreon in a way that makes her look like she's suicidal from all the pressure she receives.
Brianna is probably one of the most vile people I've ever seen and it's ridiculous how everytime the spot is on her she likes to pretend to be the victim, as if the toxicity she spreads no longer matters because feminism. She is not a victim. She does not represent female devs. If her game doesn't sell well then that is not the end of the world. Companies have to deal with that every day. Why should they be special?
Talking earlier about feminist teachers, I had a horrible one in college. She had always been a feminist she said and during the time we were being taught her husband had had enough and was divorcing her. Fair enough she was bitter but her lessons were beyond a joke. I was the only guy in a class full of girls (blame me for taking liberal English Literature in a slot when sports was going on) and we were reading early feminist literature (her choice). An actual quote from her is 'and THAT ladies *girls titter* is why men are the DEVIL *seriously looks at me*'.
she wasn't even joking, I called her out on it and she dismissed me by saying 'who is the teacher here?'. It was a horrible year. But, I researched the texts more and more and found enough contradictions to blow her arguments out of the water every time she said shit about me and men in general. In the exam (marked by someone else) I scored an A* and my paper was even provided as an exemplar piece for the next few years.
When I went in for results day and she snidely asked me what grade I got (She thought I was only capable of a C because I was a clueless man and argued with her 'infallible' narrative) she was speechless and tried to stir shit.
It was during this time I realised two things;
1. We cannot just sit by and let radical feminism profligate in our schools (the majority of my class whom were previously moderate now share radical-fem articles on FB).
2. If you work hard enough at something and prepare enough then you will achieve in the face of adversity.
I think of these lesson plans are implemented you will get some students (such as me) whom will try and find sources outside of the radical feminist narrative but you will also get many who will just skate along and not think for themselves.
As for Wu, I think it best to continue to refer to her in a gamergate context. As said above we shouldn't be obsessed with her personal life... but as she continues to project her personal life into gamergate there is nothing we can do but discuss it.
I feel the thread may be tackling too many issues at once, gamer image and portrayl in pop culture and acedemia, the attempted politicalization of gaming, less the pleasant figures in gaming, and ethics concerning disclosure fair practices and honesty in game and mainstream journalism.
Perhaps make a couple seperate threads if warrented?

I can see the headlines now; "GAMERGATE INVADES INNOCENT FORUM, MILLIONS DEAD"

I disagree, I feel she's attached herself for the sake of publicity of her game and should be completely ignored like Grace was, everything she says is bait. Discussing her is basically just making fun of her - there isn't any actual ethical or important discussion going on but the state of steam greenlight. Again, it takes up way too much space of this thread.
Is the issue with gamer identity as a whole part of the gamergate controversy outside of it or has the controversy grown to encompass that issue?
Also still going to say this please stop with Brianna ,Anita, and the rest of the inflammatory twitter brigade. It isnt getting anyone ahead but them.
Gamergate has always been about many different issues. It's not just ethics in journalism, and saying that is a running joke for a reason; Gamergate started with a man's story of his abuse at the hands of his girlfriend who happened to be a well-known gamedev. A large part of the initial controversy didn't start with corruption, it started with gamers being called misogynists by the media.
It's about ethics. It's also about Social Justice, freedom of speech, 'gamer' culture, and a multitude of other smaller issues.
Still, shut up about Wu, Anita and twitter chumps.
That is a situation that could be fixed with an apology and addition of disclosure statements in future articles. In terms of the awards it was a conflict of interest but unless evidence comes out it was indeed rigged or there was financial involvement what more can you do but take steps to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Granted its telativly minor let's hope they don't manage to turn it intonation gigantic clusterfuck.
The fact that common core is retarded is precisely why you needn't worry about it. If it wasn't retarded then that would mean that the politicians who wrote it actually learned something from No child Left Behind. You know, that thing that was universally despised throughout the entire public education system? That's what's going to happen. Hell, it already is happening as almost everyone with actual experience in education has said it was a poorly thought out mess and we already know that student's don't enjoy the standardized testing and homework they're going to have to do. If schools could be expected to suck it up and deal with it than they'd still be using No Child Left Behind. But the fact that they didn't do that is why common core exists. it may take them a bit longer to bail out this time but public education is only willing to take so much bullshit from the government.
So as a follow up to yesterday and how Brianna Wu banned me from her forums on greenlight she didn't ban me from her forums, she got me community banned from all of steam, now I cant post any criticism on any of the forums on steam

A lot of the criticism of Common Core comes from the fact that it's merely an extension of No Child Left Behind in terms of practicality, only this time curriculum changes have to be made at a federal level. But it also continues the policy of harsh examinations against teachers and schools that dictate funding levels. So now you have a system that is largely out of local or even state control that applies a one size fit all solution to schools that vary wildly in performance.
Ask a teacher (frankly, the only true opinion that matters) what they think about Common Core. Most I've talked to have either been neutral (as its the shit they have been dealing with for years) but I have yet to hear one of them complain about how it's brainwashing our youth to become feminists.
I believe GamerGate may need to challenge Common Core.
Why? It's not even vaguely related to GamerGate. If you don't like Common Core petition your state reps or governor or something.

You should really go talk to steam support about that.
Thats kind of fucked.
Holy shit this Brianna Wu stuff is reaching Air Control levels of shitty devship.

This used to be a problem before with all steam developers. They used to have a "ban" button with no context and no explanation that it would do this. Now it has instructions on how and when to use it and implications on it.
Don't ask me for the source I just remember from threads long ago.

Go public with it man. Unless you posted some really vile shit she stepped way over the line.

I've got no way of getting back what I post because she deleted everything that I posted there.

Is it cool if I make a thread on your behalf on the rev 60 page?
You need to be making it in the general steam forum because this is complete and utter bullshit and someone from the actual company, not a moderator needs to see it.
Is it cool if I make a thread on your behalf on the rev 60 page?
Yes
I've got no way of getting back what I post because she deleted everything that I posted there.
Get in touch with steam support, they must surely have a log of deleted posts.
I've got no way of getting back what I post because she deleted everything that I posted there.
Theres got to be some sort of record that Valve keeps, try asking support, they should be able to dig something up.
KotakuInAction is no help, posted a thread about it and the mod said it was off topic and hid it from sight
