Why did the show have Ice-T do product placement for civ 5 if the whole episode revolved around demonizing gamers?
over 5 of my FB friends shared that Brianna Wu article
People who are just normal
this is getting fucking terrible

Because cashmoney.
I just want to point out something about Wu trending on Facebook. She states that she got over 40 death threats. Seems like a pitiful amount for a 6-month-long "campaign of hate against women", don'tcha think?
Okay, back to talking about ethics.
I couldn't make this up if I tried :suicide:

There was a handy instant-rebuttal somewhere. Let me see if I can find it...

Hey Brianna, maybe I'm just stating the obvious here. But nobody would give two shits about you if you stopped trying to inject yourself into FUCKING EVERYTHING!
Jesus christ, I think "attention whore" has never been more appropriate.

But how is she then supposed to sell herself as a game developer if she doesn't ride the train to quick fame?
But how is she then supposed to sell herself as a game developer if she doesn't ride the train to quick fame?
Let the merits of her own work speak for itself?
Though considering R60 is the only thing I know of she's worked on, that CERTAINLY isn't saying much
Again with the "wake up" BS.
Who are these institutions and what are they supposed to be doing ?
So any more comments from gawker and Kotaku about the lovely SVU propaganda episode they had a hand in bringing about.
How about Packman.
Totalbiscuit?
Totalbiscut retweeted a tweet that said the episode was a disgrace to everybody, David Pakman doesn't think they were parodying him but some other interviewer - that's all.
Also be aware that Brianna is trying to capitalize off this episode, it's working. I'll make a bet the next 3 pages will be filled with her too. So think twice before giving her attention. She's Grace Lynn 2.0 at this point.
To the people think that the stuff in that episode really happened - wow. I don't even believe those people exist.
Hot damn, Oliver is mad!

To answer his question, the games media is mad because they're beginning to lose control. The mainstream media has taken this narrative of theirs and is using it to get more attention and cause more outrage than the games media has been able to create in months. It's making them redundant, not only to viewers but to people like Brianna Wu, Anita, and McIntosh. The more the mainstream media covers this, the less relevant the games media becomes.

And they are shocked at these episodes when they portray everybody in games as bad people. What a bunch of cunts.
Kotaku could probably sue svu for stealing and monetizing the "disgusting male gamer" IP that they made up.
They put in so much work creating it and in swoops svu to steal the show. :L

Honestly, there are some things that are so awful that you can't support them even if they are technically "on your side".

Trivialised? I've never seen anybody take gaming so fucking seriously!
[editline]12th February 2015[/editline]
Not to mention that she's saying that a fucking crime show is 'trivialising real life abuse'. Because as we all know, female game devs have definitely been raped at conventions and kidnapped and nobody in the gaming community would have spoken out against it.

To be fair in this case the "exploited" part is entirely true.
I thought it was really distasteful to have a blatant stand-in of real people violated on screen in the episode. It must have been extremely cringeworthy if any of them watched it and saw the parallels.
(I already said something along those lines to the staff writer who implied the episode reflected real harassment.)
"Trivialized" is probably an apt description too, but more by virtue of terrible writing than anything else.
In this context though I'm sure it's yet more self-victimization and she and/or McIntosh will follow up on the tweet with something completely ignorant.
the thing I love about all this is that svu and cop shows in general have been dead ever since the wire in 2002
they still shamble along like zombies since they too also get lots of money and putting out dumb shit is standard fare since anything remotely intelligent is beyond 95% of tv viewers and will come up short when compared to the greatest
tbh i still can't believe that shit actually aired and people are tweeting about. like holy fuck we have got to be in the matrix since the irony has actually started to become a physical, solid object
The reception of the episode went exactly how I expected it: gamergate laughed at how retarded it was, aGGro got mad about fiction

Well McIntosh has been making a mockery of real problems in gaming to make a buck the whole time so it doesn't surprise me he'd be mad at them for trying to steal his job

It may have been distasteful but it was so ridiculous it didn't matter. I mean, the main villains were luchadore 4channers who's plan for kidnapping Raina was to flip the lights on and off very fast during a PR event for her game and hope she would panic, hack a jumbotron in NYC so they can taunt SVU, punch her for a little bit while she screamed like she was in BDSM porn, record a luchadore urinating on her with the text "LEVEL COMPLETE" over the pissing footage, try to trick the cops into shooting Raina, then have a deathmatch with the cops on a rooftop. Realistic and sane this episode was not.

That moment you realize she helped perpetuate the stereotypes being used and abused.

I just realized they never explained how they hacked the jumbotron. "Where is that signal coming from?" and then they never mentioned it again.
