MaxofS2D is gone? Damn, last time I was on FP he was busy trying to find reasons to ban people who had opinions and stances he didn't like.
He got banned because of this very thread. We've actually gotten rid of most of the Sanius Squad. But yeah, reasonable Nazi mods are probably a big reason for FP still being somewhat decent.
Because we got rid of whackos like TH89 and MaxofS2D.
people dislike TH89? woah i've been out of the loop... what did he do?
The idea is to totally transform social media sites and forums from "public park" spaces where everyone is free to interact with each other to a more gated and private system where you are, if you chose so, only able to interact with like-minded and similar people.
I can't help but think, why venture into the "open" part of the internet in the first place if all you're looking for is a online opinion circlejerk. [editline][/editline]
He got banned because of this very thread.
This is how a formally great gaming forum dies; not through declining readership, but because of a civil war caused by a niche social issue.
GAF has always been shit.

[editline]a[/editline] Correction : he was warned here, banned elsewhere http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1425982&p=46039977&viewfull=1#post46039977
Watch as her new block list blocks anyone who has mentioned the words gamer, gate, or GG.
people dislike TH89? woah i've been out of the loop... what did he do?
He went batshit histrionic at the merest mention of anything race/sex/political/religion/Boondocks/Star Wars related, and used his mod powers to enforce his views on other people.
A University of Washington study about women in tech. To summarize: the stereotypes created about IT make women reluctant to study it. It's almost like fabricating a culture of fear is driving women away! Give thanks to the resident "feminist" anti-gaming shitlords for that.

You can see some media's shift from Ferguson and anti-black media portrayal to ISIS and anti-middle eastern media portrayal. The hate crimes against each demographic goes unreported for the most part, but the sentiments remain.
people dislike TH89? woah i've been out of the loop... what did he do?
Yeah, I'm pretty sure the worst he ever did was somewhat aggressively ban people for racist jokes or something.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure the worst he ever did was somewhat aggressively ban people for racist jokes or something.
Garry banned him for being the "worst moderator ever" after a string of bans and really bad reasoning behind them.

I've been an outcast and bullied for my hobbies all my life and just when I thought gaming was becoming accepted with the general populace these assholes start demonizing it again.
Garry banned him for being the "worst moderator ever" after a string of bans and really bad reasoning behind them.
Pretty sure he just quit being mod when Garry demoded Heezy.
He got banned because of this very thread. We've actually gotten rid of most of the Sanius Squad. But yeah, reasonable Nazi mods are probably a big reason for FP still being somewhat decent.
I have been banned so many times over the last god knows how many years and every single time I deserved it. The mods are on point here and I think they are the ones responsible for FP having such a healthy, if often revolting, community. Well, all the bans except for the fucking spoiler ones god damnit orkel

-snip- Didn't reach disclaimer at the END of the damn article saying it was a satire. Still hilarious, so I'll leave the link. http://www.forbes.com/sites/insertcoin/2015/02/13/apple-promotes-strange-new-game-type-in-ios-app-store-pay-once-and-play-2/
DLC and in-game purchases were the worst possible thing to happen to gaming, in my opinion. It works on MOBA's and games where it doesn't make an impact - but anything else it's the bloody devil - give me all the content I paid for, damn it!
Garry banned him for being the "worst moderator ever" after a string of bans and really bad reasoning behind them.
at least he wasn't pr3dator 2.0 :v: god bless his beautiful mod soul
Oh my god. Forbes, of all sites, is saying how Apple's new "Pay Once and Play" feature to the app store has a strong possibility of "shaking things up" in the console/pc market as well. What's "Pay Once and Play"? It's Apple's way of grouping games where you don't have in-app purchases, you don't have to wait for tomorrow's batch of coins/lives to play, and content is earned through grinding. They are basically saying that Apple is going to revolutionize the gaming industry by changing it back to the way it was before DLCs.... http://www.forbes.com/sites/insertcoin/2015/02/13/apple-promotes-strange-new-game-type-in-ios-app-store-pay-once-and-play-2/
wouldn't that be more devolution rather than revolution

The only reason Valve can pull off Dota's system is because they already make so much money off of Steam they could support a weak revenue from it, and they also knew that they could abuse the whole hat fiasco. The worst thing to ever happen to console games has to be the emergence of shitty multiplayer titles. Blame Call of Duty for that one.
It's a satire poking fun at the microtransaction bubble. I didn't realize it until I got to the end of the article. Apple really is doing this though.
Got any links to the important bits regarding that?
Max's 2nd-to-last ban came with the warning that he would be perma'd if he posted in another political thread. He stayed quiet for a couple of weeks, then some site posted a thing about Zoe Quinn and he decided that was a good enough reason for him to rush into the old thread and start accusing everyone present of being liars, thus disregarding the warning he was given.
wouldn't that be more devolution rather than revolution
The only reason to make DLC was small additions, while expansions were made to expand the game with lots of small additions and add larger features. Then somebody decided "Wow we can just easily pump DLC out and make people pay QUADRUPLE the amount for little bits of content!" and it all went to shit. I remember when EA was blasted for having DLC content on launch - now it's normal. [editline]14th February 2015[/editline]
The whole move from Expansion packs to DLC and the emergence of F2P games in nearly every genre have been the most cancerous to PC games in my opinion. The worst thing to ever happen to console games has to be the emergence of shitty multiplayer titles. Blame Call of Duty for that one.
Every since Valve made TF2 free to play - every company and their mother copied it. That's when in-game purchases became much more expensive as well. I don't think there's been a huge amount of shitty multiplayer titles - I feel a more lack of games in general. Everybody's making games for mobile these days. And you know what happened after that? Early access - now we get double the amount of half assed and half completed games. Because, why the hell finish it when you got the money? Early access (Good for indie dev's, not for you!), DLC (Good for the publisher, not for your wallet!), free-to-play are all AWFUL. They just promote shameless horrible games, and as such, they are becoming the norm. Hopefully UE's open source nature will promote indie dev's who don't run to early access as soon as they have a tech demo ready.
F2P craze started way before TF2, I remember it well. I played a LOT of them trying to find at least something good, but I never did. To this day the only good F2P games I've played were Dota 2, Warframe, and like two others I can't remember right now and even then all of them have some serious problems. Also, I somehow forgot about Early Access. When I remember it was first announced I thought it was a great idea since it was nearly impossible before for indie games and such to get on Steam, but now I realize it was a huge, huge mistake. The whole platform is just a way for shitty developers to abuse and get money for doing no work and perpetuating all these horrible development practices. That moment when you realize that Valve is one of the largest contributors to the downfall of PC gaming.
And the sad part is Asian MMO companies have been doing this for years before the western market even thought of Early Access :v:

For the original Xbox. Literally like the first Xbox Live title ever. (Mech Assault came out November 11, 2002. Xbox Live went online November 15, 2002). There were a few others at the same time but still. That's just crazy to think back to. For many people here that is half their life ago. For some, more than half.
So there was an intel/esl advertisement that basically said: (Male)I'm a gamer. (Female)I'm a gamer. (Male)I'm a gamer. (Female)I'm a gamer. (Male)I'm a gamer. (Female)I'm a gamer. (Male)I'm a gamer. (Female)I'm a gamer. WE'RE ALL GAMERS (cue intel and esl logo) That's... interesting.
