[...] Hopefully UE's open source nature will promote indie dev's who don't run to early access as soon as they have a tech demo ready.
I think it's already doing that, since now pretty much everyone knows that having a shiny demo means nothing in terms of developer skill (unless the engine is explicitly custom). [editline]14th February 2015[/editline]
So there was an intel/esl advertisement that basically said: (Male)I'm a gamer. (Female)I'm a gamer. (Male)I'm a gamer. (Female)I'm a gamer. (Male)I'm a gamer. (Female)I'm a gamer. (Male)I'm a gamer. (Female)I'm a gamer. WE'RE ALL GAMERS (cue intel and esl logo) That's... interesting.
Well, it's a positive message at least. Whether it's necessary is another question, since I haven't actually seen too many people slam Intel outside of photoshopping "Intel Inside" on FemFreq and IGDA stuff. [editline]14th February 2015[/editline] It probably is a good idea in light of recent mainstream media portrayals.
I wonder what AGG thinks of metal. (The genre, because people sometimes get confused.)
I wonder what AGG thinks of metal. (The genre, because people sometimes get confused.)
Wasn't there a brief "MetalGate" a little while ago? Don't think it stuck though.
Wasn't there a brief "MetalGate" a little while ago? Don't think it stuck though.
They tried to frame similar shit they did with GG on to the metal groups. But they couldn't hear them because their music was too loud.
Wasn't there a brief "MetalGate" a little while ago? Don't think it stuck though.
Pretty sure most of that was actually fake. (It has been going on for decades but just resulted in genres splitting and not people arguing over it afaik.)
Pretty sure most of that was actually fake. (It has been going on for decades but just resulted in genres splitting and not people arguing over it afaik.)
'Metalgate' was an overreaction to a single nobody article that was essentially an exact copy as the 'gamers are dead' articles, except with metal. Needless to say, the metal community is very swift and punishing with shit like that. Metalheads have been hounded for their hobby much longer than gamers have.
Maybe we should start bringing some metalheads onto games.
A lot of them are already there.
I wonder what AGG thinks of metal. (The genre, because people sometimes get confused.)
Besides that 'metalgate' article a little while ago, I fail to see any sort of connection, really.
Maybe we should start bringing some metalheads onto games.
You're looking at one. Not to mention most of my metalhead friends are avid gamers too, though mostly casual, but that's to be expected. Also, another thing to note: virtually everyone I know hates SJWs with a passion, yet almost none of them have even heard of gamergate.
So Bob Chipman was fired from the Escapist. I think he has said some extremely toxic and divisive things in the last year, but he was a major contributor to the website and I'm not sure how they're going to fill in the gap he left behind. Kinda sad to see him leave too, I understood him to the point where I could tell if he liked a movie because it was good, or because it pandered to his political ideology. I visited the Escapist pre-gg about 3 times a week, to watch Jimquisition, ZP and Moviebob; Now I'll go there once a week to watch ZP since all their new content creators only talk about tv shows I could care less about instead of video games.
I only ever went there for ZP, so all is well and good with the world for me. I tried watching Bob for a while, but he really has some pretty awful ideas on his 'ideal' movie industry and his bias towards certain genres REALLY shows in his videos.
"There are not bad tactics, only bad targets" -Bob Chipman
I know he has some pretty heavy bias, but after watching and reading his work for so long I could tell the difference between him saying "I like this movie because it's good" and "I like this movie because it pushes an agenda I agree with". I rarely ever agreed with him, but he was consistent enough that his review was useful. For example, Moviebob thought the The Amazing Spider Man 2 was the worst Spider man movie of all time and that Spider Man 3 was a million times better, when I heard that I knew that it meant I would like The Amazing Spider Man 2 and I should go see it as soon as I can. I don't know how to phrase this in a better way, and I hope I'm being clear enough. Basically he would say, "This movie sucks don't go" and I knew I would like it and then go and enjoy the movie, or he would say, "A fun watch, go see it", and I would know it was going to be horrible, and in a year watch it because I have a chance to for free and hate it just like I predicted. Video games on the other hand, I can't understand his point of view at all. One minute he's saying that we need better representation of women in gaming, and the next minute he's defending Metroid other M.
Wasn't as bad as MaxofS2D, but he did indeed ban some people over stupid reasons.
The difference was TH would explain his ridiculous reason for banning you, Max would not; TH tried to defend his position with giant paragraphs, and max just shitposted when someone deflated his pseudoscience social justice bullshit. Neither was terribly constructive in changing any opinions.
That's a lot of words when he could have just said "wah they're letting the glooberglatters actually have a chance to talk about their side of the story instead of continuing to paint them as terrorists!"
I love how they didn't even mention how they bribed Ryulong to the tune of 370 dollars, which is coincidentally still the biggest concentrated ''donation'' effort Ghazi ever made.
It's like satire.
This is great You want a quick way to show someone femfreq is a scam, show him this
This is great You want a quick way to show someone femfreq is a scam, show him this
I'm sorry, but this isn't the feminism conspiracy theory thread. This is completely unrelatable to gamergate in all forms. We may be the "larger picture" - but in my opinion this stuff doesn't belong here.
Yeah cause femfreq is just about feminism and does not relate to video games, portrayal of videogames in the media or has ever been related to agenda pushing and demonization of games and gaming culture by gaming publications an mainstream media Yep, don't see the relevancy indeed
Yeah cause femfreq is just about feminism and does not relate to video games, portrayal of videogames in the media or has ever been related to agenda pushing and demonization of games and gaming culture by gaming publications an mainstream media Yep, don't see the relevancy indeed
No I don't see the relevancy of a video that refutes things we have all heard before in a thread about corruption in games journalism - we know FF is bad, we know games journalists use it as a source of inspiration. Every time we post another FF video people will look at us and go "wow they don't care about journalism at all, all they care about is evil feminists!" Posting that helps nothing to this cause, it never did. We get it, they don't. It's context. [editline]a[/editline] So your point to posting it is "Media looks at that and thinks we all suck!" They do, we want to stop FF, but your not winning brownie points with anybody posting that, we have larger problems.
No I don't see the relevancy of a video that refutes things we have all heard before in a thread about corruption in games journalism - we know FF is bad, we know games journalists use it as a source of inspiration.
But not everybody does. Hence why he posted this snippet beforehand:
You want a quick way to show someone femfreq is a scam, show him this

Every time we post another FF video people will look at us and go "wow they don't care about journalism at all, all they care about is evil feminists!"
But you just admitted it was related to game journalism?
Saying that every single GG video or content should cater to the outside world is rather too inclusive don't you think? Why are we not allowed to have discussions of our own that don't have to include every idiot out there? There are plenty of well put GG videos out there made to market to the people on the outside. They've been remade and repeated ad nauseam.
But not everybody does. Hence why he posted this snippet beforehand: But you just admitted it was related to game journalism?
No it's not. We know it's a scam already, why is it such an important thing to bring up? Just because journalists use it as proof for bullshit we already know is fucking lies, we already know it helped create a narrative with journalists, but journalists are the main faults here for paying attention to it. The only thing you are achieving by posting about how it's a scam here is that when people look at this thread they will say "Wow more feminism conspiracy on supposed "ethics!!" Yeah you can discuss anything you want but this makes us look bad posting crap like that and just helps their narratives. If you want to make us look bad, fine. Be my guest, discuss feminists who feed on your attention. They LOVE it.
At some point you need to accept that games journalism is just one facet of what GamerGate has become. Its encompassing more and more of the problems in the industry as a whole, the corrupt and unethical practices throughout it. Games Journalism was the seed, and it has grown in to more than just that. People like Anita are a problem, they're deceitful and help perpetuate the kind of stuff that gets repeated by awful episodes of SVU and make people think gamers are evil basement dwelling terrorists. Or make devs think they and their fan base they are being demonized and the passion they've worked hard to legitimize is being degraded.

The point is not that we already know that it's a scam. This video is aimed at people who don't know that yet and Ryo posted it here so we could show it to people who are unaware of it. If you show people that FF's rhetoric is bullshit then they won't believe game journos when they parrot it around don't you think? I honestly could care less about idiots who roam this thread to nitpick anything remotely suspicious further their own confirmation bias.

I don't have anything else to say about this, argue about it all you want.

The only people who say that are people who attack GG for being "misogynistic". They want to silence you and that's the only tactic that's worked.
