Corruption in Gaming Journalism Discussion V2 - Back from the dead!
No it's not. We know it's a scam already, why is it such an important thing to bring up? Just because journalists use it as proof for bullshit we already know is fucking lies, we already know it helped create a narrative with journalists, but journalists are the main faults here for paying attention to it.
The only thing you are achieving by posting about how it's a scam here is that when people look at this thread they will say "Wow more feminism conspiracy on supposed "ethics!!" Yeah you can discuss anything you want but this makes us look bad posting crap like that and just helps their narratives.
If you want to make us look bad, fine. Be my guest, discuss feminists who feed on your attention. They LOVE it.
Discussing the failings of FemFreq, an organization which defames gamers, has major sway in games journalism and is completely idolized by them still pretty much relates to GamerGate.
How does pointing out they're shitty people who don't deserve their credibility somehow make it that we think feminism is a conspiracy? They're practically not even real feminists since they just use it as a defense.
They're literally a big supporter of corruption and use their reputation in the media to demonize gamers. Debunking their lies and calling them out helps us.
You should care when there's at least one feminism post every page, it WILL confirm what people told them about gamergate - we have discussed this before.
I don't have anything else to say about this, argue about it all you want.
Stop with this "This makes us look bad!" bullshit. Why should it? Because we argue against someone who claims she's a feminist? If our opinion is backed up with arguments then why the fuck would that be bad for us? Should we start praising anybody who claim to be progressive and not criticize their work, like the whole industry is doing right now which is the main source of this whole controversy in the first place?
You should care when there's at least one feminism post every page, it WILL confirm what people told them about gamergate - we have discussed this before.
I don't have anything else to say about this, argue about it all you want.
Well, when they use a false representation of feminism as the base of many of their arguments and how they style themselves, its almost impossible to discuss the subject without it being brought up. Perhaps it'd be better to accept that and work that in to plans instead of denying it and wondering confusedly why they still use it. Part of this is going to have to involve, one day or another, breaking that false representation so people can see what they really are. Right now they regularly fall back to "I'm a feminist!" as their effective catch-all for deflecting criticisms.

Ah, so it isn't that it's not relevant after all, it's because it makes us look bad. Already knew this was the real reason you were opposing it, I wanted to see if you'd admit it.
And let me reiterate: fuck that, I don't care. This is how they work, they shame you into silence and it's kinda sad that it's apparently working on some people.

First off, calm down. Secondly, I already stated that I am not arguing anymore. I understand you have an opinion but I think your going beyond scope. That's all.

Attacking FemFreq isn't attacking feminism though
Ah, so it isn't that it's not relevant after all, it's because it makes us look bad. Already knew this was the real reason you were opposing it, I wanted to see if you'd admit it.

I'm sorry if you think I am being shamed into silence your delusional. I don't care about feminism I care about corruption - they had a helping hand sure but you guys are blowing this out of proportion with everything I say.
I said - discuss what you want, I don't care anymore. I was just trying to say I didn't think we should talk about that as much as we are. Whatever, talk about something else that hasn't already been said against me, please.
[editline]a[/editline]
I am not a feminist if your asking lol
I don't really care about females in gaming somebody else can deal with that I just want to buy games and not be lied too about what I am buying the whole time.
Since this is clearly going waaay off topic, I'll wait a bit for you guys to stop. I don't care anymore.
Skeeve, pretty sure everyone here knows you're a feminist by now. I doubt anyone cares and I doubt anyone holds it against you. Many on the pro gamer side don't care about feminism or could in some form be called feminist themselves. So you're not under attack, and by and large feminism isn't under attack, it's the cultish garbage "feminism" the anti-gamer side runs by that is under fire.
First off, calm down. Secondly, I already stated that I am not arguing anymore. I understand you have an opinion but I think your going beyond scope. That's all.
I don't see why I would need to calm down. Is it because I used "bullshit" and "fuck"? Either way I don't see how that's "beyond scope" when FF is the bread and butter of all of those who want to push the narrative that gaming is a hostile space for women.
I don't care about feminism I care about corruption
And how is a video making a statement that femfreq is a scam in any way related to feminism? Is anita sarkeesian the queen of the feminists?
This is exactly what they are doing, using feminism as a shield against criticism, and you are buying that
Anita is far from a feminist and you'd have to be delusional to think so.
Just because you call yourself something doesn't make it true.
As I wrote last year, Gawker tried really, really hard to block lawyers for its former unpaid interns from using social media to spread the word about their upcoming class action suit against the company. Two months later, in what was apparently a precedent-setting decision, the judge overruled Gawker’s objections and decided that social media would, actually, be the perfect way to promote a class action that will likely involve hundreds of millennials.
So now comes the fun part: The interns’ lawyers have to put together a social media strategy for promoting their lawsuit. And, thanks to newly filed court docs, we can get a sneak peak of what they have planned. The short version: they’re going to spam Twitter and Reddit, including forums favored by the anti-Gawker “Gamergate” movement.
Help, I'm basking in glory at the lawsuit and boiling in rage at "sneak peak" at the same time.
We are most likely going to see a slew of reddit shadowbans over that.
Northbysouthbaranof just violated his topic ban.
I went to hulu and saw the svu episode comments, some people are blind calling others people blind.

Could you share a screenshot or (if possible) an archive? I'm pretty sure I can't access it from here or through normal proxies.

Men who haven't even thought of a basic reality check: GOD THESE WOMEN WHO THINK MEN DON'T UTTERLY CONTROL THEIR LIVES ARE SO RIDICULOUS, RIGHT? oh by the way I think that's a bad thing.

As a feminist and a person who believes in social justice, it's disgusting to see how people are just saying the exact same thing that men/ white people/ other oppressive group have said, but from the opposite viewpoint, and yet still agreeing with it.
It's now a sign of weakness to be optimistic for things to improve in the future. This culture of fear will widen the gap between groups and undo the progress that has been made in the past, if it's allowed to continue.
"women are being attacked because they didn't acknowledge a man's gesture"
What does this mean? Could someone explain it to me? What is a man's gesture in gaming?

I'm not a feminist nor antigamergate and I understand Skeeve's point really well. Like I said before, attacking Anita/Wu/Quinn/~~~ will not get you anywhere. This isn't about what people think of gamergate, it's about what do those actions do. Do they help solve the problems that need to be solved? They mostly don't. By now the Internet is filled with people saying who's right and who's wrong, videos debunking Anita, etc, etc. People who want to be informed are already informed. Repeating this action over and over is not going to achieve much more since there are diminishing returns. The focus of people should be in doing constructive things that help progress this situation in a meaningful way. Creating new websites, reminding people to give traffic to alternative websites like NicheGamer, IncGamers and so on...

I'm not sure I understand what's the point behind this, yeah you get your own personal army of supporters on social media, how does that help in a court case?

the only thing I can think of is that the interns were not all connected with each-other, so they have to find them through word of mouth.
the only thing I can think of is that the interns were not all connected with each-other, so they have to find them through word of mouth.
They're also not stupid. They know that by getting this information in to circulation, the pressure will be tougher on Gawker, making them more likely to acquiesce to a settlement.

extra from law and order episode, he was also the one that originally leaked the episode
says that most of the extra actors were basically neutral or pro gamergate and thought feminists were the problem

Any chance we could get a general overview of what people discussed about GG on their own time? Just wondering how a small sample of actors feel about the subject when discussing it freely.
It wasn't more about like pro or against, but I feel like it raised a lot of questions. Some were talking about how difficult it is being a girl and playing video games, not because of supposed harassment, but because of feminists ruining it for them just like anyone else, like, there were a few #NotYourShield supporters.

What was the general consensus of the crew regarding the episode? Surely someone there saw through the bullshit and knew the whole entire situation was retarded as fuck.
I'm sure there was, but I didn't have a lot of time with the crew. They did read the scripts and there were some eye rolls. But like I've said in other comments, these were people just looking to get paid/be on TV.
A job is a job, as retarded as it may be sometimes.
Showbiz is especially hilarious in the requests that you get. I have a very good friend who's been an actor all his life and he's told me some really bizarre stories before :v:

So basically the whole thing was supposed to give off a satire vibe. Hm...
