Yet they forget there were a few attacks against Chans and subreddits dealing with suicide and depression because some said they were offended.

The sad part is the open statement of "what angle should we take then".
They clearly don't give a shit whom and how the piece impacts anyone, and they're perfectly fine with any misinterpretation or skirting the edges of slander because they know they have the Disney legal team waiting to be unleashed from the dungeon.
Modern corporate journalism, it's what's for dinner.

It's Mark Kem, the former team lead of WoW calling for Kotaku and Polygon to accept responsibility for helping construct the narrative that ultimately led to the creation of that SVU episode. If they accept, we gain more elbow room to argue our point and credibility as it tacitly dismisses their outlandish claims against us. if they refuse, then it's a spit in the face to game developers, stressing the already tenuous relationship between journos and devs.

There's your longer explanation.
Now spread this as much as you can. Spread it on Twitter, spread it on Facebook, spread it on your goddamn toast if you have to, just spread it.
For those of you in an e-mail sending mood, here's the latest list of sites that were implicated in GameJournoPros.

I've signed it.
Hopefully they get fucked hard.
I don't know it just feel disingenuous to me to think that that petition would have any considerable effect. Maybe I just don't "get" petitions.
They most certanly aren't going to suddently admit that they've been full of shit the whole time, and their refusal of acknowledging that petition can be just as easily attribute to the excuse that they believe they've done their job properly and shrug off any responsability of something they had no direct involvement in creating

Regardless of their actions, we could gain the upper hand.
But wait, it says "A rift that the gaming press did not start". The GG thread on /v/ is going nuclear as a result of this.

All we have to do is remind them of the Gamers Are Dead articles, GameJournosPros, and other corruption that caused GamerGate in the first place. If the press tries to wriggle its way out of responsibility through that one line we'll just slam them with documented fact proving the contrary.
Sorry, but leaving Gamasutra, Shacknews, Ars Technica, Something Awful and Neogaf off that list is utter bullshit. I ain't signing shit, until the actual assholes who started this are held accountable.

From what I am reading, we are supposed to just forgive Gawker and Polygon for slandering us for more than 7 months straight and handing the narrative stick back to them?
Fuck that, I say. No way in hell they will see me crawling back to them to ask for forgiveness from them. It should be the other way around because they fucked up on enforcing ethics, not we.
They started this all. This could all have been over in one week if both parties just sat around the table to talk it out. We agreed. The neutrals agreed.
Guess who didn't agree to even acknowledge the talk initiative? The gaming journalists, who happily pumped out more slander against us and neutrals.
They called us dead. We shouldn't be their audience anymore they said. And now they want us to come back? How about NO. You wanted the SJW crowd, better fucking enjoy it, because we ain't coming back.
We aren't to blame for any of this. Let those gaming sites who called us dead die. There are more than enough alternatives that do care about ethics and do not shit their consumer crowd in the mouth all the time.
Smaller, but more dedicated sites like Gamesnosh, TechRaptor, ChristCenteredGamer, NicheGamer, and the list goes on and on.
So why should we even hand those tossers who have slandered us for more than seven months, like Gawker and Polygon a lifeline out of the mess they have created themselves?
They have already shown that they despise everything about us. Just look at their employees being fucking tossers on Twitter, per example. Do you want to let the likes of Biddle and Kuchera win?
About that First Amendment part in the letter, just remember how much of a fuss Gawker and Polygon kicked up about Hatred, shouting about how it should be banned, not unlike Jack Thompson did with GTA back in his day. Apparently the First Amendment only passes if they are okay with it. Speaking about Jack Thompson, those sites that slandered us have become just like Thompson, except that games cause IRL misogyny instead of Thompson's games causes IRL violence.
I know that it has been going on for over seven months already and people are getting tired over this, but we didn't waste this much time just to hand everything back on a silver plate to Kotaku and Polygon.
Remember what the topic originally was and what we are here for? Fighting corruption in gaming journalism.
And there is nothing in the damn letter about the corruption of those sites. Or how much they have thrown us under the bus non-stop since this all began.
Or how none of the SVU episode would have happened if those sites didn't call us every bad thing under the sun and compared us to actual terrorists.
I cannot sign this. This is pretty much a letter signing that we surrender.
And sorry that this is such a long rant, but I kinda had to get this off my chest after that slander article falsely accusing us of telling transgender and gay people to die.
Someone in the 8ch thread about it pretty much snapped and threatened to end himself as he couldn't take all that slander anymore.
Yes, this is taking a toll on people, but I will not let the bullshit they committed against us slip in any way.

As happy as I would be to see this whole fiasco end, I'm not accepting a win condition (if that's what you would call it) if it doesn't involve these sites owning up to the bullshit they did. If they can't admit they are in the wrong, they will burn in hell before I accept a surrender of any kind from them. There are PLENTY of more respectful sites who are much more deserving of our love and support than these jackoffs.
Mark Kern just updated the petition, It's more favorable now. He holds the gaming press responsible.

There is no win condition.
Nobody will win at the vague end of this, it's about who loses harder.
It's pretty stupid to assume Kotaku or Polygon will apologize - they will defend themselves to the end.

The gaming community's reputation was shit to start and its still just as shit.
They've brought nothing but just attention to the stereotypes that already existed. There was no failure condition for us.

I disagree with this. The sentiment has way too much blame on us and as far as I can tell absolutely no backlash against the journalists.
Also calling any website but Escapist "reformed" is a misnomer. Claiming that Gamasutra is anywhere close to reforming is also ridiculous.
Overall this seems like a cop out.

And regarding the updated version
We know you can do it. You've defended us before and we need you now more than ever. Wield your pens not as swords, but as the connective, collective narrative that will pull us together once again. Don't let “Intimidation Game” stand as the last word on our hobby and the face of gaming to the public. Do not go silent into that good night...
If by you he means Kotaku and Polygon then this is an utter joke.
We as gamers have been dealing with this shit for over 6 fucking months now. Getting banned, having libelous accusations thrown at us, some of us getting harassed and even blacklisted and these "Game journalist's" are the ones we are going to call to after they have continually endorsed this shit against us? After all this shit, hell, all the crap they've thrown at TB and everyone involved in this, we are expected after all of this TO BEG THEM?
The audacity of the statement that they've
defended us before and we need you now more than ever.
The same journalists that, when probed about their patreon donations, told each other to hide their patreon donations.
The same journalists that had no qualms about banning anyone with a dissenting opinion.
The same journalists that would say "There's no collusion, :Jeff Gerstman" only to later discover their mailing lists.
The same journalists that unanimously denounced us all as misogynistic, ISIS loving, trans-phobic, privileged white nerd bullies and claimed we were dead.
We need them less now than ever.
Honestly I equate the petition to gaming's 'The Ninety-Five Theses on the Power and Efficacy of Indulgences', hence why I am for it.
If they decide to exile instead of address the issues, it will paint them in an even more negative light.
Anyone gotten word about Brianna Wu being threatened by a man in a mask?

Honestly, Kotaku must be loving all of the attention it's getting right now. Even if it's negative attention.
Though we can't really go silent about them either, and I doubt they'd ever reform their policies. What can we even do about them?

How would we go about doing that? Google wouldn't cease contract with a major company over something as controversial as GamerGate-- they'd likely stick to be as neutral as possible. Unless they've made some ToS breach that I'm unaware of, that is.
