I'm just looking forward to all the coming technological advancements.
Not really an augmentation, but I would like a new spine. Not that mine is bad, per se, but I always wondered what it would be like to look normal when you walk.
make me wolverine and we'll call it even
I want a build in radar of chicks in the vicinity that will or will not have sex with me.
My penis, Is augmented.

Welp, I guess we'll never get to see human augmentation, considering the world's going to end in a few hours :v:

[release] Greetings cyborgs, I came across this interesting video last week on BME Modblog. If you are unaware, the Nintendo 3DS now offers augmented reality video games. One gamer was so excited by this new technology, he got the AR card tattooed on his forearm to allow himself to become part of the game experience itself. This exemplifies what Nathan and others have discussed on this blog many times. That is, the merging of the digital and the material and the creation of an augmented reality. So is the man in this video truly a “cyborg?” I believe so. In fact, we all are to a certain extent. Heck, you are reading this blog right now, engaging in a dialogue with me from far away through the help of internet technology. In this sense, the Nintendo DS AR card tattoo serves as an exemplary case of modification and the new cyborg body that I have spoken about before in this blog. For clarity, I refer back to PJ’s definition of augmented reality and the cyborg. He states,
Cyborgs are the indigenous subjects that inhabit augmented reality. They are physical bodies enmeshed in the techno-social formations that characterize a particular historical moment. In conventional sociological terms, cyborgs are the micro/agentic object of inquiry when augmented reality is the macro/structural unit of analysis.
In my opinion, extreme body modifiers are the vanguard of the new cyborg body. Individuals who insert magnets into their fingers, place implants in their foreheards, stretch their earlobes, split their tongues, and tattoo simulated images on their bodies are all exemplary cases of the Haraway’s cyborg. They take the academic metaphor to the next level. But like I have stated before, these instances of body modification are nothing new; affluent white westerners are not the first to modify their bodies in extreme ways. What is new is the use of sophisticated technology to extend and enlist the corporeal in creative ways. This Nintendo DS AR card tattoo is but one example. Perhaps in the future we will see other individuals merging body modification with other unique passions like gaming. So how far will augmented reality lead us? And what are some of the limitations to this new augmented reality? Is this really anything “new?” Onward and into the future, Godspeed.
I want a build in radar of chicks in the vicinity that will or will not have sex with me.
I could get you a blank sheet of paper. You'd get the same results.
kind of related
Oh come on, you could set up software to do that for any tattoo. If image clarity was better in tattos then you could have all kinds of data stored on your skin.
Androids will be awesome too.
HERP DERP AN ANDROID IS NOT A CYBORG.
I would be happy with getting replacement eyes, I fucking hate glasses and contacts.
you don't need fake eyes to regain good eyesight without glasses, get laser eye surgery
you don't need fake eyes to regain good eyesight without glasses, get laser eye surgery
This. Think of a camera. They have a digital zoom which works, but you prefer to use optical zooms. Why? Because an Optical zoom gives a better result. Making everything out of computer bits isn't always the best solution as they do many things horribly. Regrown tissue or retrovirus genetic mods or plain old drugs can work just as well as many of these things, even better in some cases.
Yeah but laser eye surgery doesn't guarantee anything and your eyes can still degrade afterwards
I'll let you in on a little secret, neither will artificial eyes. VLSI circuitry that makes tiny computers possible has a limit on how many computations it can do before it starts to degrade and the transistors don't work as well. For most applications it's ok because it'll be an ancient piece of junk long before then but if you want lifelong eyes, it's gonna get nasty. Maybe have the back nerves wired up to a universal connector so it's just a matter of removing the old one and putting the new one in. Might work.
That's why serious commercial augmentation would be an absolute nightmare if you have companies like Apple or Sony making them propriety, or a group in the likes of the RIAA involved. I'd never buy something like that unless it was mostly open source and modular.
With the kind of thing that can kill you if someone fucks with it, they'd be making a whole new level of security for it. Don't worry about that shit because they'd be hack tested by government agencies as an approval test, it'd be nigh impossible.
Yeah. Right around the corner? Are you delusional or just really fucking stupid? I seriously wanna know.
:frog:
