Petition by the US Government to Legalize and Regulate Marijuana

I was listening to a radio report which said that weed would become MORE expensive after being legalized because of increased demand. I don't really think this would be a huge issue, maybe after some time the price would go down again.
Still, I support legalization.
Signed.
i wanna meet the economist that said legalization would make weed more expensive

I knew you guys would disagree for some reason.
I wouldn't know, though. I've never taken an economics class. I'm just parroting what I heard from the report.

Supply and demand. The demand is clearly very high so the government and retailers can make a lot of money off of weed. Good weed is gonna be easy to get, but also very expensive.
seeds will be easy to get too
everyone and their mom will be growing weed

wont be hard to find someone to sell it at a discounted price
Update/bump: They have responded to the petition. Take a look, but don't hold your breath.
as an american and one who lives in a area where its part of culture i can tell you this is bullshit
when i got pulled over they never charged me with a dui for pot and this bill will encourage that.
decriminalize it.
Reading that made me just lose any faith I previously had for my government.
Wow.
According to scientists at the National Institutes of Health- the world's largest source of drug abuse research - marijuana use is associated with addiction, respiratory disease, and cognitive impairment. We know from an array of treatment admission information and Federal data that marijuana use is a significant source for voluntary drug treatment admissions and visits to emergency rooms
First off, the addiction is no worse than caffeine, alcohol, cigarettes etc. source
The respiratory disease study they site was flakey at best. They chose 10 people over 12 months admitted to a respiratory unit with new illnesses whom admitted to regularly smoking for more than a year. They concluded that any respiratory diseases they had must have been caused by their use of cannabis. source
The cognitive impairment study they site shows that it only has that effect if you use it more than 7 times per week. Light or intermediate use shows no signs of this, intermediate use actually outperformed the other groups in their 'fuzzy' concepts test. That last line in the quote is hilarious. In their own link, they show that alcohol and ordinary over counter drugs are a much more significant source than marijuana use. The only major point from this is that under 20's are visiting the ED much more than any other drug. As with alcohol and tobacco though, this could be helped through age restriction if it were legalised. source
As for the potency increasing over the last 20 years, I can't see what point they are trying to prove as all the tests/studies have been done in the past 5.
this shit is old, i think there was a thread on the response it got. Not surprised, did people really think this petition system was going to make actual changes in government. If that was the case they could easily get 20,000 or so people who hate obama and pass one that he should be impeached or something retarded like that, doesnt mean its actually going to be taken seriously.
Bah really? You'd have thought they'd have put a date on that response.
And to think I just wasted 20 mins playing internet detective.
yeah we already debunked all of the bullshit, hell, NORML had a response to them here http://blog.norml.org/2011/10/29/white-house-response-to-normls-we-the-people-marijuana-legalization-petition/ all you need to know
Well I was excited for no reason
fuck
I hate this fucking government man
