Slayer is actually a lot more complex than Metallica if you look at them from a musical standpoint and look at their use of dissonant chord progressions but I doubt you actually approach technically from a standpoint other than "difficult to play riffs." [editline]22nd November 2010[/editline] Repetition is how music has always been, I don't get it. Ever heard of ABABCAB songwriting? Megadeth uses it just as well.
sure, thrash might be hard to play with chord progressions, but that automatically mean it's good just because it's hard to hit the notes. it might be complex due to all the shit you're doing but it gives off that DUNDUNDUN sound and it ends up sounding repetitive even though it's a variety of different shit. i don't get why music has to be repetitive, i really don't. in thrash, due to aggression i can understand, but even that is overused in most thrash bands. and by repetitive i don't mean sections of the song being the same like chorus and shit i mean the notes and all that
Well then you shouldn't listen to thrash metal because that's what the majority of it is. [editline]22nd November 2010[/editline] And I'm not talking about chord progressions being hard to play, I mean musically complex in theory, though the writers of thrash are generally unaware of this.

Perhaps you should try a different genre if you can't really find what you're looking for in thrash.
Kreator is good
Perhaps you should try a different genre if you can't really find what you're looking for in thrash.
i CAN though, just in small amounts since it's fairly hard to find bands like megadeth, coroner and artillery (at least by inheritance) are exactly what i want, but i have yet to find more
Didn't post all of those bands a while ago? Mekong Delta Airdash Hades etc Maybe try Watchtower [editline]22nd November 2010[/editline] Have you tried listening to any Power Metal or Speed Metal instead of Thrash? Speed metal: Power metal: [editline]22nd November 2010[/editline] oh also listen to annihilator's Alice in Hell album [editline]22nd November 2010[/editline] and listen to both Toxik albums twice, as they are easily the most technical and interesting things to ever come out of thrash
yeah i tried to find the thread with all of them but i couldn't find it
It was kyle's thrash metal thread. I'll find it quick [editline]22nd November 2010[/editline] nevermind it wasn't, maybe it was an old megadeth thread I can't find it

Well...
How dare he..
Exhorder may be many things, but they are most definitely not sloppy.
Probably late, but has anyone checked out Myrath? Confession Hope Forever and a Day I love how they incorporate native/oriental instruments.
Exhorder may be many things, but they are most definitely not sloppy.
i never said they were sloppy i said i didn't like them
Thank me for my awesome post god dammit
Oh yeah for more technical thrash, Meshuggah's first album was very techy thrash metal before they created a sound more of their own. I don't think it's particularly good really, but it's complex thrash so here you go
they are still just tech post-thrash
then listen to all Meshuggah
Haha yes, do that.
Man, I don't really have anything wrong with Mike Portnoy leaving DT to support A7X after the loss of The Rev but he is really wasting his talents :geno: compared to
What is this treble nonsens you be posting here. It's all about the bass cleff. What an amazing page king
Anyone heard the new album from Agalloch "Marrow of the Spirit"? People are saying it's pretty weak, but fuck it, what do they know? It's great imho The intro song

Maybe Portnoy just likes playing some simple stuff every once in a while? I mean, his drumwork in Dream Theater can be pretty taxing and complex. There's nothing wrong with toning it down and going back to the basics. Sometimes you just want to chillax every now and again. Of course, I can't talk for Portnoy; this is my own assumption and personality.

He left for ALL of his side projects, and wants to do MORE of them. Including another tribute band with Paul Gilbert, among other things.
Just of the top of my head metal
