Derp. I knew they were melodeath, but that's just their style of playing. when I think of viking metal, I think of metal with viking related lyrical themes, which is what Amon Amarth is. Just like Swashbuckle is Thrash metal, but with Pirate themes, therefore, Pirate Metal. @Calkkuna, Daath (fuck special characters) is an American death metal band.

Viking Metal isn't even a proper genre. It's just what people who have no idea what they're talking about call bands who sing about Vikings. Most bands who sing about Vikings are either Melodeath or Folk Metal so there is no point calling them Viking Metal.

You could argue bands like Enslaved and Bathory play "real" Viking Metal. I've always thought of it as a progressive and often folky offshoot of black metal with usually long songs, clean passages, and very keyboard heavy, stuff like that. Enslaved and Bathory are the best examples really.
