Oh damn yeah, Iced Earth. Got them too, but haven't listened. I'm going to try and listen to every band you just listed.
As in a whole album each.
I have Domine Non Es Dignus by Anaal Nathrakh lined up ready to listen to once I'm done with The Guessing Game by Cathedral.

I recommend Metropolis Part 2 for Dream Theater.
Oh, I guess recommending albums too would be a good idea then, given I'm going for one each.
Also adding in Electric Wizard from hearing about them a whole lot.
Just got around buying Megadeth's Endgame and holy shit eargasm
Iced Earth
Kamelot - Ghost Opera, or One Cold Winter's Night (Cold Winter's Night is a live album)
Nightwish - Century Child
Luca Turilli - Prophet of the Last Eclipse
Rhapsody of Fire - The Frozen Tears of Angels
Demons & Wizards - They only have two albums out. Pick one.
Ensiferum - From Afar or Victory Songs
Wintersun - Only one album still :argh: and it is self-titled
Obligatory Metallica/Megadeth/Iron Maiden/Black Sabbath - S&M/Peace Sells...But Who's Buying?/Live After Death/pick a god damn album
Symphony X - Paradise Lost. It is the epitome of awesome.
Ayreon - The Human Equation
Dream Theater - Score, Octavarium, Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence, and/or Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes From A Memory
Cynic - Traced In Air. It's about 40 minutes long, and it is indescribably awesome.
Machine Head - The Blackening or Through The Ashes of Empires
Primal Fear - 16.6 (Before The Devil Knows You're Dead) or Black Sun
Stratovarius - Just pick an album, but be sure to listen to the songs Eagleheart, Hunting High And Low, and Black Diamond.
Vader - Impressions In Blood
Yngwie Malmsteen/Rising Force - Perpetual Flame
And now you have albums to go for.
Why can I not hate Devil Sold His Soul? I generally despise Metalcore and Hardcore...
They're brilliant. They sound quite post-metal/neocrust and sound very little like most post-hardcore nowadays. Might see them live :buddy:
[editline]4th December 2010[/editline]
And your post ticks me off a little. Don't hate a band because of its genre, and don't even hate the genre as a whole because it's stupid. If you listen to music thinking to hate it it's going to be bad. Listen with an open mind.

Well, I have a predisposed hate for it I guess, considering all my brother ever listens to is The Devil Wears Prada and such at as high of a volume as he can without destroying our speakers. Sorry if I made you mad.

Another band I might recommend is Vanden Plas. As for albums, I recommend Christ.0 from them

Since you got a big list before, I'll keep this short.
Skagos - Skagos/Panopticon Split (I suggest just Skagos' half, but if you want go for both)
Njiqahdda - Yrg Alms
Amesoeurs - Amesoeurs
If you like any of them, I have other suggestions.
Baroness is cool.
baroness are great
Why can I not hate Devil Sold His Soul? I generally despise Metalcore and Hardcore...
It's because they're fuckin' amazing :smug:
truth be told I'm pretty much the same. Most post hardcore leaves me bored rigid and most metalcore is so stuffed with breakdowns that it becomes unlistenable to me. I used to be a big fan, not so much any more

Nevermore
Between the Buried and Me
Latitudes
Devil Sold His Soul
Mastodon
SikTh
Tesseract
Ihsahn
Winterfylleth
baroness are great
Why are bands referred as "are" and not "is".
I don't think they're plural or is this some kinda exception?
Also Melvins is/are/asd/whatever awesome. Love that sludgy sound.
A band consists of several people
So the band name refers to a group of people
Sort of like "The jews are great"
[editline]5th December 2010[/editline]
Yeah I know it doesn't really make sense but that's how I see it
Yeah. You wouldn't say something like 'Devin Townsend are great' since it's one guy. Same as how a band is a group of people
Funny looking metal bands, go.

Then I recommend checking out Ufomammut, a metric fuck ton darker than Pelican, but just a little bit tastier.
Same goes for YOB, check out all of their stuff, "a ball of molten lead" and "The Great Cessation" are particularly awesome in my opinion.
Going back to the "is vs. are" regarding bands, I know that technically it's "are," but I am of the opinion that a (good) band should be considered a singular entity, composed of individual members. Much like an organism, you don't refer to an object with "are," even though it's technically made of many smaller units.
I feel the same way about a band. It's a single entity made of individual members, like a person is a single entity made of individual cells. So I personally prefer referring to a band with "is," such as "Scar Symmetry is an amazing band."
Though that also may be partially explained because I personally believe that if any member of a (good) band changes, it will be noticeable, and it won't feel like the same band. I'm a real stickler for that kind of thing. That's why I tend to refer to bands like Megadeth, which constantly changes members, with "are," in complete juxtaposition to everything I said above. When I say "Megadeth are a great band," I'm really saying "Dave Mustaine and associates at this particular contextual timeframe are a great band." :v:

Scar Symmetry is an amazing band just sounds like terrible grammar or whatever term you would for that (V:v:V) to me.
Like I said.
I know it's grammatically incorrect to use "is". I just find it... I don't know what you'd call it...
I just think it sounds more respectful in regards of the cooperation and cohesion required in making a good band function. Going back to my organism argument.
I get what you mean I just think it sounds wrong lol
Someone give me some good power metal.
Something outside of the usual ring of bands, because I want something new.
