I prefer modern death metal drumming to earlier metal drumming. It's just more satisfying to listen to if it's done right. Case in point, Decapitated:

Growls are hit and miss for me. Some sound absolutely brilliant whereas others are just, ugh. The best ones I hear come from melodic death bands.

It's like doom metal with old style amorphis growls (so not very full or powerful but a doomy sound) and a psychadelic 70s feel to it. Groovy stuff.
