They're all innovative and influential in their own right, just in different ways. I personally would say if I had to list the most influential...
Metallica
Megadeth
Slayer
Anthrax
Note that Anthrax is still EXTREMELY influential, particularly SOD! Slayer was not really influential at all in the early days, at all... It's only due to the sheer number of fans they have that they're so influential really.[/QUOTE]
though, I don't think Metallica would have really been as influential or large as they got if Dave was never in the band. infact, they probably wouldn't have taken off anywhere without Dave basically making up thrash for them
[editline]26th January 2011[/editline]
though, that's another thing. i've got my own theory why dave was kicked out, and I think because he was too controlling. if you read his book, he says he was talking for Hetfield on stage, and he says he was writing a lot of the songs, and I think the other guys didn't want Dave to basically take over and become the leader, so they replaced him with somebody who'd basically be more passive and wouldn't take over but still had the ability to retain the style of playing Dave had done, and you get kirk hammett basically. i don't believe for a second it was because of alcohol and drugs, since they were probably all fucked up just bad as Dave was
then again i could be wrong but meh, it's only a theory

Not a bad theory. I could see it being a definite possibility.
Though it makes me wonder how Exodus would have turned out if Kirk had stayed with them. He left before they even released a demo, didn't he?

Yeah but Dave isn't metallica, metallica is still metallica no matter who was in it. If I wanted to list the most influential PEOPLE it'd be a different list!
Dave was kicked out for his ego, this is common knowledge.

no they released a demo. fucking awesome song on it...
[media]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MfHMcctrKWA[/media]
They'd be a much more groovy and less punk influenced band IMO

it can't have just been that though, surely it would have been his leadership personality as well, look at Megadeth. Dave is basically the sole member, basically writing most of the shit, calling most of the shots, it seems a lot like they just didn't want Dave to take over and make Metallica his own band instead of everybodies
I guess this also ties into ego though

I love Timo Tolkki's Facebook, he'll answer your question, or if you're being an idiot suckup, rip on you for wasting his time. I milked his amplifier settings for each album and some info on other gear.

I love Aaron Turner

Devin's sound can't be summed up in a couple songs really. if you've heard of Strapping Young Lad, he did vocals, guitar and keys on that.
His solo career's not really very like it though, but he still incorporates the wall of sound technique in the heavier stuff. He covers progressive rock, progressive metal, did a bluesy record, sometimes country and quite often a very poppy (but still awesome) sound.
I like that he isn't afraid to try and break boundaries, and pass genre barriers. They're no limits to him. one of the reasons he's so respected by his fans. He's like
God
Also, fuck yeah

Do I need to say more?

i wonder what metallica would have ended up as if Dave stayed
part of me thinks it still wouldn't have been as good as Megadeth since Dave wouldn't of had as much drive
there's no way it could've stayed together lol.
the problem would be dave would be writing as many songs as james and lars and that would drive them crazy
[editline]27th January 2011[/editline]
i mean really either dave would force his way into the front and somehow make james and lars both allow themselves to be in the background of things, or it would be like the fucking beatles and the best metal band of all time

i could never get into growl or death metal really, never saw what made it so brutal and metal. guess it's just personal tastes
The real question is... what would happen to Metallica if [sp]Lars could play drums?[/sp]
[QUOTE=Reset Panda;27687569]The real question is... what would happen to Metallica if [sp]Lars could play drums?[/sp][/QUOTE]
Uhh.. Nothing, what he plays now suits their style of music. If he played any more complicated stuff, it would sound out of place.

I'm not a fan of death metal like that. It's not bad but it's far from great, not really something I'd listen to.Tuning to drop Z and chugging for 3 minutes isn't that appealing to me. I far prefer the technical and melodic death metal subgenres, and the old school stuff. More interesting and way more enjoyable.
You guys have not listened to Schizophrenia by Sepultura

This, plus I'm really not a fan of cookiemonster vocals
One thing about melodeath though, the melodic mostly seems to mean it uses really standard chord progressions
[editline]27th January 2011[/editline]
That's why I prefer progressive metal
Cookie Monster is my favorite metal singer :downs:
Progressive Metal is where it's at.
