I think cynic post 1992 sucks
I didn't say it was all about aggression
but wow those melodic vocals sound borderline scene. ass.
[editline]27th January 2011[/editline]
and the music is so slow it feels so held back and boring
[editline]27th January 2011[/editline]
particularly in comparison to the demos
listen to the demos
do it ):<
How the hell can you say something 'sounds' scene, that's just close-minded
Scene is the stuff people listen to because it's trendy and br00tal/cool
Also the demo wasn't bad, very good for a demo actually, but so is focus, it's just different
Tuning to drop Z
Why is this being rated funny? Drop Z is very real.

well I mean the melodic vocals used in bands like attack attack
it's shit
I hate that vocal style, and vocoder doesn't help.
/rage

Well that's just you, I don't have the YOU HAVE TO PUT 'IN MY OPINION IN EVERY SENTENCE OR ELSE YOU'RE A DICK thing going but it sounds as if you're actually saying it's bad quality music and you have a reason for thinking so
Personally I like sort of like vocoder in metal
No sir you are wrong
He uses vocoder
Attack Attack! blatantly abuse autotune.
Autotune and vocoder are not the same thing. Cynic's singer uses the vocoder to pitch shift his voice and play it over his normal singing (or something to that effect, I can't remember exactly what)
Attack Attack! use autotune because he can't sing for shit
Or maybe because they think it compliments their style idk

Top rated comment: "By Z, he* means that it doesn't matter. Just make it low as fuck."
It's not actually Z, it's just a saying.

Yeah I can't stand it I dunno I think it's terrible. I dunno about bad quality music, but I absolutely can't stand it.
@Mike yeah I know they're different the clean vocals still sound shitty like something from scenecore
That sounds like complete shit
your FACE does
Also, who cares if it isn't a real note, it's still heavy as FUCK

motherfucker that is heavy and awesome
omg so hevvy
I think Raspberry Bulbs has their(his) guitar detuned pretty damn low.
lowest i go is F Standard on my 7 string
I tune a full octave down on my 6 and play black sabbath licks lol
[editline]27th January 2011[/editline]
octave and a half step that is, not that it really makes much difference at that point
vedicardi how do you know so much shit about music anyway
I go to college for music business (4 year) and do independent research for fun
as long as music is real, has soul, and is fun, I'm all ears
[editline]27th January 2011[/editline]
well fun is optional

that's the power of my hatred for post '92 cynic
There's not a force in hell that can stop you when you're pissed off about something music related.
Regardless at least the thread is alive again.
well at least modern prog isn't as bad as disturbed
I've heard a lot of people say that early disturbed is a completely different band.
Also what's wrong with prog?

Vedicardi thinks all modern* prog is long solo and acoustic element.
I see, here is a useful
I just hate the clean vocals and boring uninspired riffing that is somehow considered "progressive."
Like Dream Theater is okay.
But any band that tries to sound like them at all
hnng

they used to be boring, they still are, though yes there has been a notable stylistic shift recently

besides people getting it and understanding my points and not just saying "you are wrong"
which fortunately just happened and thus allowed the thread to cool down
I guess so, I just know they're kind of bland. Down with the sickness was a sick way to end Dawn Of The Dead though.
I think modern prog is pretty good, all the musicians in it are really talented. I don't like to listen to it though, I think sometimes the stuff the bands write about are kind of... well honesty they're kind of wussy.
Bands like Tool and shit which are built around the whole fanbase of worship and intense reflection on Maynard's "deep" lyrics are a huge turn off for me. DT are on the very edge of this, but they're got songs like The Root Of All Evil which are just fucking badass, and like I said I respect them because they're extremely talented.
[editline]28th January 2011[/editline]
Oh and Vedicardi, I can completely relate if you think there is a lack of aggression, because there is big time
I mean it's not like it has to be there, but it should.

lol
Yeah
the musicians are talented, but they don't understand they're just treading such boring water. They all need to listen to Atheist.
I don't even think there NEEDS to be aggression at all, just some fucking energy. I'd call those vocals just "phoning it in." There's obviously no honest intent behind them other than "sounding good." Wussy is a good way to "describe" it while at the same time not getting the point across at all to anyone that might disagree.
[editline]28th January 2011[/editline]
this is what prog metal should sound like

most prog metal bands just play one riff in 5/4 and somehow that's considered "progressive" It's just boring and done simply to do it, rather than with any musical intent or message or meaning.
Well good to see we're on the same page for once. I do know what you mean, there is something that is critical to metal that is lacking, that's why I never got into prog rock because aside from the nice musicianship there honestly wasn't that much to grab onto.
Anyway half of the prog I've heard sounds like ballads dedicated to loneliness, or losing a girl or something. Always something deeply emotional, and that is sure as hell not what I want to hear. Wussy isn't a perfect way to describe it, but I'm not talking to everyone in this thread at large atm, I'm talking to you.
