I don't really get why it matters
guess what it doesn't
the point is I said CLEANS suck clearly referring to metalcore clean vocals and you took that as me saying all vocals that aren't shouted/growled/etc suck so it's your problem, not mine. I'm not the one misinterpreting posts.
Read that again.
No really, take the time out of your day to read it.
Besides the fact that Bieber's music is pretty much engineered to appeal to the layman (which is as much a social study as a musical one), to even BEGIN to think that something as generally demanding and complex as tech is somehow not demanding or complex is baffling.
I'm not a big tech fan, I listen to Obscura and some similar bands, but that's just stupid
Didn't say it wasn't demanding, I said it takes no compositional talent
Some skill maybe, like having a clue how to write riffs, but it doesn't really require any sense of melody or emotion to write
=my definition of requires no talent
[editline]8th February 2011[/editline]
sorry if I offended you, but I'm not snipping it

the sort of stuff I'm referring to
Sure it's fascinating to listen to for like a couple of songs tops, just for the musical skill and the unique wall of sound it produces, but it's not as deeply enjoyable(at least to me) as anything that invokes emotion
And that isn't because it's not my 'style of music' or anything like that, it's because this type of music isn't MEANT to be invoking any emotion, it's literally just playing as fast as possible
And if there is even a thought of emotion in the writing process, it's certainly secondhand to showing off and being as brutal as possible
= my definition of musical bullshit

There's more to composition than writing something which sounds nice. Listen to the basslines and tell me they don't take some talent to write, there's some incredibly jazzy stuff hidden away in there. I'm not saying I like it, but see the smaller parts of the songs rather than just judging it because it sounds intimidating or busy.
As far as emotion goes, that's a can of worms I'm gonna go ahead and kick over. You're telling me that Brain Drill doesn't evoke feelings of anger or get you pumped up. I'm aware emotions are about as subjective as you can get, but to say that you can't see any way that Brain Drill would inspire emotion is absolutely batshit.
"clean/cleans" is a term used when referring to metalcore vocals in contrast to typical screamed vocals
it has nothing to do with any vocals outside of this one genre
Not really, I refer to clean vocals if the music contains both straight "sung" vocals and harsh vocals, regardless of genre or time it was released. It's simply a descriptor of contrast
[editline]8th February 2011[/editline]
for example, judas priest SINGS, kreator shouts. if you call kreator's vocals singing, then you might as well call reciting poetry singing. it's not
You would never say Kreator sings though. Because it isn't "singing", it's harsher shouting style vocals, not singing. I would never refer to it as "clean" vocals and neither would anyone else because it isn't. But you wouldn't say it's clean anyway because like I say it's a way to describe contrast between different vocal styles.
Just like how in most styles of metal which feature varying vocal techniques, you're only likely to hear a pristine clean electric guitar and a distorted guitar. You're less likely to hear a moderately overdriven guitar nor a more "shouty" voice because that's less of a contrast
you can refer to it any way you want for all I care, that wasn't the point of what I was originally trying to say. read my last post on the matter
[editline]8th February 2011[/editline]
"You would never say Kreator sings though."
I just fucking said that
Fair enough, I was just trying to clear up in which cases I believe it's an appropriate term
"clean/cleans" is a term used when referring to metalcore vocals in contrast to typical screamed vocals

lol... you serious
I don't know about you but I use cleans for practically everything, and so do all my friends and so do a lot of people on this forum
[editline]9th February 2011[/editline]
Oh and they can be good
Very, very, very good
Also cleans are in practically anything with both screamed and sung vocals. If there is a section in the song where they are sung, opposed to when they are screamed, they are "cleans". There are plenty of bands who do this, and they are nowhere near being metalcore, or any core at all
also for someone who hates it so much, you seem to talk about metalcore all the time
Hey guys, I'm sure you don't really care, and this probably isn't the best place to put this, but I discovered that Opeth have an entire journal cataloging their history.
I suggest you give it a read, if you haven't already.
http://www.opeth.com/index.php/biography/show/tpl/chapter-i
I'm currently on Chapter 9, where Mikael (I assume he's the one writing these journals) said that he likes (or, at least, admits they're not nu-metal... :v:) DevilDriver.
If I can convince myself to like Opeth I'll read it
If I can convince myself to like Opeth I'll read it
Can I help? You're missing out lol
Reading the concerts everyone's been to makes me sad.
I live in a black hole for performing artists. We don't even get country in Montana, just a shitload of two-bit mainstream numetal/"hard rock" bands. Apparently the "highlight" of this year is going to be elton fucking john.
Must be nice to live in Europe where every concert is hardly a road trip away.
Can I help? You're missing out lol
Nah, I have all their stuff
Can't bring myself to like it, I've tried for a long time. Probably because their songs take 5 minutes to wind up and then they don't go anywhere.
Some of their heavier stuff is p. cool but I don't like them as a whole
everybody listen to this:

Oceano will rape your face.

Okay granted, the bass lines are pretty cool, but still, that's for like a second, then they just get annoying, at least to me
And no, frankly I don't see why a high notes-per-second rate would invoke emotion, except for stress maybe
anyway, it is true as you say, feelings are subjective and very hard to discuss

The first song was actually really cool :v:
Lately I've been listening to a band called House of Low Culture, it is a project by Aaron Turner, Stephen O’Malley, Luke Scarola and Jeff Caxide, and I gotta say it is pretty boring. Except for their "Submarine Immersion Techniques" album which gives off a Isis-ish wibe.
Go check it out if you're interested in sludgy drone stuff.

Amon Amarth are doing a Europe tour in Spring with the goddamn BLACK DAHLIA MURDER :frogc00l:
But
They're not doing the UK, and if they do it'll likely be in London which I won't be able to go to cos it costs like £70-£100 to get a train there and back.

Elton John is pretty bitchin' not gonna lie.
But yeah Montana is pretty much the end of the universe. Period.
Are there even a whole ten thousand people living in the entire state...?
Mouth Of The Architect is awesome.

I just looked it up and they have more people then 6 other states. All of the states have more then half a million.

No but there's less than a million. Wikipedia says 989,000, about 155,000 in my city alone.
I love this state, besides the fact that there's hardly anything to do on a normal friday night. I guess that's why we have meth and suicide.

19,378,102 if you're willing to believe the Census for New York.
7,559,372 for Long Island as of 2006.
1,419,369 (as of 2000) in my county alone.
There's too many fucking people here.

While I love both bands I'm not sure it's worth like £60 to see them. Plus isn't your concert in November or something? This is only a couple months away so it'll cost more.
[editline]10th February 2011[/editline]
O shit Devin has an EP out some time over the next week :pcgaming:
[editline]10th February 2011[/editline]
Also a 60 man orchestra
[editline]10th February 2011[/editline]
And it's free yaaay
I booked the tickets about two weeks ago for a gig in April :v:
You can't book more than 12 weeks in advance for trains. At least you can't online
