It seems to me Vargs' causes were completely separated from the rest of the black metal scenes'.
Like, he burned down churches to reclaim the land from the christians, the others mostly did it to be cool
He strongly believed in paganism, not satanism, but all the other bands wrote songs about satan anyway just to be cool and then said "uh yeah what this guy said" pointing to varg

ooooohhhh shiiiitttt
Exodus pulled out of wacken this year due to touring problems (Maybe because Gary's playing with Slayer)
Hope they don't pull out of Bloodstock cos that's only 2 weeks after.

Sounds a lot like Bobby Blitz on the preview song.

Overkills vocalist, that is.
I've recently taken a liking to this kinda music. I like stuff along the lines of Sonic Syndicate and Bullet for My Valentine (lol), anyone have any recommendations

Maybe a few of the tag alongers were doing it "to be cool," but it was a pretty tight knit community that shared beliefs of such a nature

Everything about this is fantastic.

Yeah
Effectively that's how I got into screamed vocal kind of stuff which led me onto all the other bands like Meshuggah or whatever.
I've spent a lot of time listening to Parkway Drive and August Burns Red, they're both good places to start your metal tastes although they aren't really 'metal' themselves at all.
The Ghost Inside are awesome too, coincidentally I've seen all the bands I just listed.
From what I've heard In Flames, Insomnium and Eluveitie are bands that you have to enjoy screamed vocals for a while to really get into.
Don't know too much about the last two however
Parkway Drive and August Burns Red are metal, what are you talking about?
A good place to start is Come Clarity by In Flames. Now before you shoot me down and say "THATS ONE OF THEIR SELLOUT ALBUMS", fuck you, it's a great album.
It was my first metal album, and it serves a great way of introducing someone into heavier metal than BFMV, etc. It's vocals are mellow enough for you to cope with if you're having trouble adjusting to harsh vocals and all the songs are not rough and edgy, but smoother for your ears (I really hate describing music, I just can't do it).
Some more good bands to start off with would be Scar Symmetry (great vocalist) and Slipknot, now this may irk some people *cough*Rad*cough*, but they are a great band, they make good music and it's a great starter for metal.
No they're not metal, they're just metalcore.
They're not real metal, nor do they sound like real metal. They're still awesome though
Metalcore is metal, it has metal in its name.
If you don't consider it metal, what is?
Main advice I can give him is don't build stupid prejudices like most metalheads
Go into everything with an open mind and you'll enjoy it more
Fuck I said metal a lot then.

I don't know but it's just not metal to me and I will never classify it as metal
Not even a mineral

I cannot agree more.
Do not listen to prejudiced metalheads at all. If they say "THATS NOT METAL" just tell them to fuck off.
Just like what I've done
Still listen to them though, they're extremely awesome and cool. Both are some of my favourite bands

Metal[/QUOTE]
It's a subgenre of heavy metal, it has all the characteristics of metal, how can you not classify it as metal?
And they both put on an incredible show, so want to see ABR again
Breaking automerge ftw

The scene behind it screams "NOT METAL"
[editline]22nd February 2011[/editline]
fucking stop ninja ing my posts
The scene behind a genre does not change what a genre is.
Say if all these people who looked like metalheads, acted like metalheads but actually are jazz fans, it doesn't make jazz metal. It's still jazz.
Same with metalcore. Just because they don't act 'metal', which is a stupid enough thing as it is, doesn't make it not metalcore.
You're fighting a brick wall
This is my opinion, there is nothing you can say to change my mind. Just deal with it, I still like it and think it's cool
