Meh. It's just a weird opinion.
The scene behind a genre does not change what a genre is.
Say if all these people who looked like metalheads, acted like metalheads but actually are jazz fans, it doesn't make jazz metal. It's still jazz.
Same with metalcore. Just because they don't act 'metal', which is a stupid enough thing as it is, doesn't make it not metalcore.
Part of me is with you, Metalcore as evolved so much since it emerged, now it's moving mmore and more into the melodic death metal-area.
I consider modern metalcore metal.
[editline]22nd February 2011[/editline]
I mean who could call it punkrock, that's just absurd.
That's because punk rock is punk rock, not metalcore.
[editline]22nd February 2011[/editline]
Also, metalcore will always stay metalcore, just the popular bands are moving into melodeath.
Good way to sum it up

What bands would you say are becoming melodeath?

The people who argue metalcore isn't metal say it's hardcore punk so yeah that's what I was referring to
The original metalcore like integrity I dunno though
Bands like converge are original metalcore
and I have heard them, and I think that they sound horrible.
All That Remains has a shitload of melodeath influences.
Ive only been able to enjoy napalm death for core bands. I just dont think core sounds good.
The melodeath influenced metalcore bands are pretty good. Doesn't get as good as pure melodeath, but it's better than the breakdown influenced stuff.

Meh
At least the breakdowns-every-30-seconds kind of metalcore has it's own distinct sound, the other kind is just a generic mishmash
this is more deathcore than metalcore but core riffs tend to just be worse melodeath riffs
Like instead of the more melodic aspects it gets a bit heavier and tremolos or chugs instead of other more melodic techniques. So I always get hyped up for awesome sounding melodeath riffs if I listen to metalcore only to be let down by a chug or something.
Effectively that's how I got into screamed vocal kind of stuff which led me onto all the other bands like Meshuggah or whatever.
I've spent a lot of time listening to Parkway Drive and August Burns Red, they're both good places to start your metal tastes although they aren't really 'metal' themselves at all.
From what I've heard In Flames, Insomnium and Eluveitie are bands that you have to enjoy screamed vocals for a while to really get into.
Don't know too much about the last two however
I'd say In Flames is a band which is great for starting to like screaming. For me it took a lot more time to get to like the screams of Devildriver and Lamb of god compared to In Flames. Mostly because Anders's voice sounds more melodic when he screams compared to the other ones. A good example is the album "A Sense of Purpose" before moving on to songs like "Touch of red" and "Like you better dead" from the album Soundtrack to your escape.
I will agree that In Flames is a good band to get into melodic death metal with. I got into it via Hypocrisy, and I would hardly recommend that as an easy path - it took a bit of work on my end to get into harsh vocals via Hypocrisy. :v:
What I would recommend is start with In Flames' Come Clarity, with the title song, and then work your way backwards, finally ending with Whoracle or The Jester Race. The reason I would suggest working backwards is because Anders' vocals became less harsh on each subsequent album, which means that, conversely, they get more harsh on each subsequent album when you work backwards.
I think it would be a relatively gentle slope into harsh vocals. That's my suggestion, anyway.
I got into mine through newer Amorphis and later insomnium. Personally I definitely recommend Amorphis. Their catchy choruses, melodic singing and not particularly heavy music makes them really easy to listen to, and growls are not the main vocal style. Tomi uses (very good :frogc00l:) cleans for the most part, growls being more of a backing thing. This allows you to listen to growls and get accustomed sort of subconsciously, as you can focus more on other parts of the music.
Yes listen to Amorphis' latest 3 albums.
It's a subgenre of heavy metal, it has all the characteristics of metal, how can you not classify it as metal?
For the last fucking time, metalcore is not a subgenre, it's a fusion genre.
I notice that when most people starts to listen to In Flames' newer stuff before listening to albums like The Jester Race or Whoracle, they appreciate their newer stuff but at the same time find albums like The Jester Race to be better but in the case of listening to The Jester Race before albums like Come Clarity they tend to condemn them for being "sell-outs"...I guess their older records kinda overshadows their new records.
I've recently taken a liking to this kinda music. I like stuff along the lines of Sonic Syndicate and Bullet for My Valentine (lol), anyone have any recommendations
Guttural Secrete.
Can't go wrong with a bit of guttural secrete :v:
Metalcore is metal, it has metal in its name.
If you don't consider it metal, what is?
nu metal =/= metal
use your head

I think toxik hands down the most technical thrash band of all time
and that's awesome. incredible songwriting. it's seriously astounding to look at the (real) tabs for their songs
For the last fucking time, metalcore is not a subgenre, it's a fusion genre.
Whatever, it's still a genre of metal.

I really always hated In Flames so I'm probably not the right person to talk to :D
But the other guy might find that useful

On the harsh vocals subject, I got into screamed vocals by listening to core bands like August Burns Red and Parkway Drive
After listening to nothing but core bands for a long time I decided to experiment a bit more, and I kind of completely branched out from there.
I started with a universally hated "FUSION" genre (or whatever the fuck you idiots want to call it, I really do not give two fucks) and then I tried stuff like Meshuggah, and All Shall Perish and The Faceless and stuff like that. From there I just listened to whatever, just because I was recommended to listen to it
Feels good man
Now for the love of god, fucking drop the core subject and let's talk about Dio or Sabbath or some shit.
Heavycore :colbert:
august burns red formula: write 16 nonsense riffs + paste them together in no particular order + CHRISTIAN LYRCS = song!

at least they're better than the devil wears prada and all of those terri-bads
