I'm sure you can get through it, and you'll come out of this the stronger for it.
I'm hoping you'll be well again very soon, and I'm certain everyone who's talked to you on facepunch feels the same.
Bone marrow transplants? Yikes.
I read that it's not as painful as they make it out to be in books, and that the procedure doesn't take a while. The trouble is just getting the donor.
You look cool when you're bald.
I have leukemia. It sucks but at least I met someone who is just like me.
Cheers mate.
By the by, how old are you? It's hard to tell by the photos.
24. I was always the youngest one by far in the clinic.

They will actually take my own marrow stem cells out now as long as it isn't infected in any way, and then kill mine off with the heavy radiation and chemo. They'll grow those stem cells or something and then put them back in me and let them grow... I'm not too sure how it all works, I'm meeting with the transplant people next week and then I'll get if figured all out.
My mom had cancer. Shit sucks. She was all dead for like a year and I had to take care of her...

Basically, stem cells can turn into any cell. Humans carry stem cells in their bone marrow as adults. They're also found in embryos, so your doctors could technically probably just get the cells out of a dead embryo, but that's much more difficult, time consuming, expensive, and ethically questionable than just taking out bone marrow stem cells.
So, they could insert little genetic pieces of information into those cells and tell them to turn into certain white blood cells, or red blood cells, or tissue, to help repair your body and fight the cancer.

Ah I see. I kinda like the dead baby idea...
One of my friends had the same form of Cancer as you. She got past the Cancer, but unfortunately died due to a pneumonia type illness. The Cancer had weakened her immune system so much that she couldn't fight it. She was one of those people who were always happy and friendly.
Cancer sucks, and I am tremendously happy for the people that survive.
:(
Congratulations.
My girlfriend has cancer, I feel for you man, cancer sucks... She started losing her hair to the chemo and when she looks in the mirror she cries. :(
Right now she's in Canada with her aunt to avoid stress and such...
Good luck to you. :)
Good luck man!
Incredible!
You've taken the most sarcatic forum ever, and posted a serious story nobody makes nasty jokes at. Well done!!
Good luck to you, stay strong and I hope (and I'm sure that) it will all end well.
Look on the brightside, when your chemo is done and your hair grows back you can laugh at the fact you no longer look like Capain Bald.
Best of luck.
A++ thread, I'm really glad that you're alright.
This is the best read I've had at FP in a long time.
Edit:
Make sure you do something great with your life.
Get better soon!
Good for you, man. I would be scared shit-less if I knew I had cancer. I'm a wimp. :(
Congratulations on your recovery!
Hows the hair coming?
Good luck!
I was crushed when I learned Quatloos from planetelderscrolls had died...
Let's not have that happen again, okay?
My friend has a tumor in her ear and I'm afraid it's cancerous. :(

OCTOBER 21 2008 UPDATE:
Just got my test results back today. Turns out radiation did the trick on the node they were aiming at, but I have another one near my esophagus. This means they have to do a bone marrow transplant so they can be sure to kill any and all cancer anywhere. Monday I'll start chemo again, which I'll have for about 3 months this time. Then I have to go live near the Huntsman Cancer Institute in Salt Lake City for 3 weeks while they do full body radiation, uber heavy chemotherapy, and the bone marrow transplant. I'm honestly feeling a little sick to my stomach already...
That sucks that there is more. I hope you get rid of it and get better. Go play some video games to take your mind of it dude. Good luck.
I hope you'll be fine. :(
good luck man. i don't know you though so i can't tell if you deserved it or not.
until i see differently, i wish you long life and victory over cancer.
Jesus Christ why do you have to go through Chemo again. Just stay alive.
Good thing you are fine, my mother was just diagnosed with breast cancer..
Look on the bright side: Now you don't need as much shampoo in the shower.
Just kidding, Hope everything goes great. I've been through my share of traumatic experiences (near heart attacks, bleeding out my ass and being told it was internal and I was going to die, which I didn't, ect.).
Hows the hair coming?
Oh right now it's pretty long and thick. (that's what she said)
I'm sure I'll lose it again though. Oh well.
Aw man, good luck with the marrow transplant. Those are a bitch.
