Looks like the perfect marriage of Classic Doom and Doom 3 to me.

SSG is suitably classic
game looks sick

Ive played a bunch of doomin the past and dont feel any reason for 'doom' to be the name of this title
It misses all the beats for me, enemies look very 'samey', gunplay looks fast but reminds me more of bulletstorm in a lot of ways, and the atmosphere doesnt click for me like the originals (or even 3!) did. It just looks... i dunno, derivitave? Ot doesnt look awful but its just not getting me, idk why youve gotta be so passive agressive about it just cause we disagree

I can kinda see what you're talking about the enemies looking samey, every monster in Doom 1 and 2 are pretty visually striking from one another and it's pretty easy to pick them out from eachother.
Whereas here the imps and hell zombie dudes look awfully similar: lanky thin guys. Though I'd say the other monsters are easy to distinguish, seeing as Pinkys are shorter and wide, Barons are tall as fuck, Knights have that massive forehead, Skellymen have their bony limbs and their bulky jetpack, and fatsos are easy to spot no matter what.
And I dunno, I've spent a lot of time looking at doom resources, along with playing doom maps and mods that I'd say this still feels like Doom to me, just not vanilla Doom. Looks and feels more like a big Doom mod than anything else.
I definitely get Doom from it. From the Hellknights requiring 3 super shotgun blasts, to the large and powerful explosive range of the rockets that you still have to pile multiple of into tougher enemies, to the equivalent of fodder and imps easily killable with the Shotgun that run rampant. It's got some aesthetic value from Doom 3, but a modernized, 'slay with extreme prejudice' sensibility of the classics.
I get doom from it too. The gameplay looks like they took doom, slowed it down a little (more like quake without bhop) and added a ton of verticality.
Lower tier shit looks a little samey but that hardly disqualifies it as being doom, i mean the pinky is literally doom 1/2 but armored, and the cacodemon is pretty much the old one with minor changes. Every higher tier enemy has a distinct design and attacks that function different from the others.

it just feels weird to disagree about whether this "feels" like doom when so many of the assets straight up look like they fed the original sprites into a computer and had it spit out high poly photorealistic models
just look at the fucking cacodemons, the mancubus... pretty much any of the demons

I don't know how you can get any closer to the original doom without making a .wad
^ the mancubus is a distinct design from the rest of the enemies but its hardly anything like its classic design

That's only one of the two Mancubus types shown, but they did get a large redesign.
Better than the fat guys with cthulu mouth tentacles from Doom 3 though.

When you kill it. It dies absolutely identical to the original doom sprite with the guts.
Not kidding.

I'm not trying to be passive aggressive, I've just seen "it doesn't look like Doom to me" so many times, and I legitimately can't figure out what it means. When people say that, I get the impression that they just literally want original Doom all over again, and if any new Doom game changes anything at all, it's "not Doom". From what we've seen, the new game is about as close to classic Doom as we're going to get. And despite that, I'm still seeing the same complaint, so at this point, I have no idea what people are looking for.
i saw the snap map designer and it reminds me a ton of mario maker. Powerups can have sounds/music attached to them, the level physics can be changed, enemy spawns can be moved and programmed to follow a path, and it can be played in coop or pvp.
I don't see the problem with glory kills. They are close to death anyway, and you could easily finish them off with an extra shot. It becomes useful when you want to preserve ammo or get supplies, which creates the gameplay mechanic of balancing between risky but rewarding close up kills, and safe plus fast kills from a distance.
It's not a press X to win function at all.
hey i liked the doom 3 designs for demons
except for the imps, idk what the hell happened there

The look for doom 3 just worked, everything looked like it should.
I like this thing the most.

No old graphics
No old super simple animations
No super speed
No enemies literaly everywhere
I don't know what else... But why would anyone want that? The room filled with enemies, sure, but even Doom 3 tended to do that every once in a while, despite the dark and the tight corridors making it more of a chore.

I like how Doom 3 for example was like "hey heres the BFG9000 and the plasma gun" and then we get to Sarge's office and we find his (obsolete in comparison) double barreled shotgun. Heck, we got chainguns and plasma guns, but we can pretty much go through all the game with just the regular shotgun. It's that fucking good by itself.

Don't judge it from a bit of gameplay with people talking over it.
That's like trying to watch a good movie while everyone in the room is talking to each other.
We're passive aggressive because it feels like the people who don't like it always give criticism about it that can never be fixed. Kind of like remaking a game hundreds of times, to the point of just being better than the original in every way, and people still only caring about the original.
I mean, as I said, all that criticism was from like 15 mins of gameplay. You probably wouldn't expect them to show every single enemy in the game in that set of time right? Plus, the gameplay obviously can't remain the same. Yes it does remind me of Bulletstorm aswell, but I don't see that as a bad thing. I see it as an improvement even. As for the atmosphere... Not even videos with no commentary do it for me. I have to play it myself to feel it, so I don't find it fair to judge it by this.
The original Doom games didn't even have enemies literally everywhere, or at least Doom 1 didn't. If you were playing on Ultra-Violence, sure they buffed up the enemy count over Hurt Me Plenty, but at best the enemy count was only slightly higher compared to this and leaning towards a lot of pinky demons for filler. Doom 2 on the other hand got a bit liberal with its large maps and clusterfucks of enemy groups that come charging, or putting you into an open space and surrounding you with mobs all around. Hordes of monsters were map-related, not the game basis.
And i'd rather take concisely designed maps with oodles of secrets and good fight setpieces than a Serious Sam where it just swarms you with hordes of the same enemies. A horde-shooting FPS isn't necessarily bad but it's not what this is.

A far cry from Doom 3.
*sweating* a what?
If you want to play the game you're expecting, just find the secret doom 1 easter eggs and play the doom 1 missions from the main menu
