Can someone refer me to some noir-esque jazz? As in, the jazz that you'd expect to hear in a dark bar in the 1920s-40s in the winter. [editline]20th October 2011[/editline] Things like Charles Mingus, I mean.

Got a Flying Lotus vibe, I reckon, but with more jazz and less space.

I dont know if this is the right spot to ask this, but whats that newer song That has ALOT of distortion in the guys voice, and almost sounds like an electric piano or violin going "dododododododododeee" and then it drops and he says "SAY HEY" or something. Its stuck in my fucking head and I need to hear it before it kills me I think it was the show house too. I dont fucking know
Well, I dunno, he's one of the things I'd think of when I picture a smokey bar with a band on stage.
well. some of his songs at least. I'm more familiar with stuff like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z-R11B7EGt0 but anyway more helpful post: Bohren und der Club of Gore (not the greatest from a jazz point of view but it has so much heavy atmosphere) Miles Davis - Ascenseur pour l'échafaud (a soundtrack to a noir film) Miles Davis - Round About Midnight Chet Baker Wayne Shorter and um just listen to lots and lots of davis. it's good for you.

it's been discussed here a number of times if you want to travel back. basically whatever you do, listen to the album Loveless by My Bloody Valentine, it's basically eternally the high water mark of the genre
