Is there anymore metal with jazzy elements or bits and good production? I really love stuff like that. Animals As Leaders, Scale The Summit, Guthrie Govan ish. You know, stuff with leads that make you cry?
Whats some trip-hop similar to Massive Attack or Portishead?
Tricky. [editline]23rd December 2011[/editline] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maxinquaye
Cynic's Traced in Air, Exivious' self titled
I'm feeling Exivious on the first few seconds of listening alone. Will post some thoughts later bros, thanks.
Tricky. [editline]23rd December 2011[/editline] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maxinquaye
I think I heard a track from this album and liked it, will check it out thanks.
Can someone recommend me some power metal, akin to stuff like this:
Can someone recommend me some power metal, akin to stuff like this:
If its cheesy power metal you want, go for Stratovarius.
I've been on a big Tegan & Sara kick lately, what are some other artists in the same vein as them? :v:
Are there any genres/bands that put a high emphasis on the bass guitar, especially being very complex and hard to play? Examples of what I'm asking:

Or something like this

Try Chris Squire's (bassist of Yes) solo work Also Michael Manring's Thonk album Franke should know some of this stuff, or maybe he's lost his bass ways. :-(
Oh wow, that's great Thanks.
Anyone know any tracks with the same style intro as this (that thrashy build up)
That Thonk album is awesome, mixtures of jazz and metal. [editline]24th December 2011[/editline] :ninja:
Anyone know any tracks with the same style intro as this (that thrashy build up)
Try listening to some technical death metal. Sure you'll find a song or two that fits what you want.
Any artists like MUTEMATH please? Preferably something like their instrumentals or earlier works: http://ia700208.us.archive.org/13/items/OutOfOrderMm/OutOfOrder.ogg Another really good example: http://ia600502.us.archive.org/17/items/Forte_946/Forte.ogg
I'm on the trip-hop wagon too, it sucks that it's such a limited genre. It's really only the Bristol bands, Portishead, Massive Attack, Tricky.
Yes. we need a trip hop thread
I've been on a big Tegan & Sara kick lately, what are some other artists in the same vein as them? :v:
Never listened to them but assuming you're looking for female fronted indie-pop you might like Regina Spektor or St. Vincent. [editline]24th December 2011[/editline] And Laura Stevenson
Anybody have some good piano driven music? Preferably in the vein of Mogwai's Mr. Beast album or Eluvium.
Cynic's Traced in Air, Exivious' self titled
The first thing I noticed was that Cynic's drums are dry (as in little or no reverb, it's not a particularly bad thing). Just an observation. I thought it was pretty interesting 'cause a lot of the (prog. metal) bands I listen to have more 'verb on them. Also the lead singer sounds like the dude from BTBAM. I didn't catch that the first album I listened to 'cause of the vocoder. :v: Exivious is exactly what I was looking for, easily. They're like almost full-on jazzy. Cynic's jazziness seems more occasional so I'll have to give them a thorough listen.
Cloudkicker After the Burial Veil of Maya Born of Osiris The |HAARP| Machine That all (besides Cloudkicker) has death metal vocals though, so I don't know if it's exactly what you're after.
Dude all of those aren't jazzy? I'm wondering if you're messing with me. And it appears HAARP doesn't even have a record out yet.

[editline]25th December 2011[/editline] Listenin' to track 8 on Thonk, dat slap bass sounds goofy. :v:

There's some good fusion on it, I'll admit that I don't think it's too addictive, but that's up the person.
I love jazz fusion like Allan Holdsworth and Jean Luc Ponty, so I'll check this out.

Focus is probably the better album of the two though :) If you like Paul Masdival's voice he has another band called Aeon Spoke which is much less techy, more dreamy acoustic rock stuff, I love it. He also appears on Sumeria by Devin Townsend as a guest vocalist. He also played (but didn't sing) on a few Death albums :v:

I haven't delved into Devin Townsend yet, which is ironic considering I see you rave about 'em a lot.
-snip-
What are some good Sludge Metal groups I should listen to? I've pretty much only listened to Acid Bath and I would like to find things similar
