I'm looking for ambient/idm "sobering" or "chilly/ing" stuff based on old documentary/educational film samples. Stuff kinda like
Tycho
Boards of Canada
Really hard to find stuff with the same "chilly" or "sobering" vibe as those two, but I'd love more!
Anyone? I really want more stuff like this.
Does anyone have songs similar to that of Godspeed's?

I'm looking for instrumentals

Just bring up post-rock on Last.fm and go through everything. There's too many to list here.
A Silver Mount Zion is members of GYBE, much quieter
Set Fire To Flames is also related, and it's basically mostly samples and soundscape. almost no "rock" at all. get it if you like that sort of abstract stuff.
then some more post rock bands:
.O.rang
Hood
Yndi Halda
Evpatoria Report
Ef
Pelican
not much to dig through, I haven't heard too many instrumental post rock bands as interesting as Godspeed. plenty of great ones I can suggest with vocals though.
yeah vocals would be fine
They're not quite like GY!BE, but I love Maybeshewill.
yeah vocals would be fine
well then, Sigur Ros is the next to check out if you haven't. Then Bark Psychosis, Slint, and Talk Talk (last two albums only, earlier stuff is pop). Have A Nice Life is very different sounding but some of their long songs are really dense and remind me of godspeed.
oh and, not one of my favourites, but you might like 65daysofstatic

yeah I listened to 65days of static, they don't really give me the same feeling that godspeed and A silver mount zion give me
also talk talk is pretty entertaining

yea, thats the earlier talk talk.
after their pop phase they basically went on and created Post Rock with a couple of masterpieces, Spirit of Eden and Laughing Stock.
oh god, all these bands you're giving me it's like magic coming out of my speakers. Looks like my songs of the gods playlist is going to be significantly larger later
I added you on last.fm Goodthief, browse through what I've been listening to the past few days for a ton of post rock/post metal stuff.
oh cool, thanks

Thanks guys for the music I think I may have a new genre to explore now.
I need more sludge, like Kylesa, Baroness, Mastodon, Black Tusk, Torche etc
Anyone know of any good bands with unique styles?

All pop music released during the contemporary period known as the "space age" :smug:
Well I suppose I requested the wrong genre of music then :smug:
But you picked some truly great songs there.
:respek:

Wait a second....
Space age pop is a general and loosely based term for a music genre associated with certain Mexican and American composers and songwriters in the Space Age of the 1950s and 1960s. It is also called bachelor pad music or lounge music.
You're wrong. :smug:
