Yo dogs. I'm trying to find a good instrumental song for a kinda "documentary". It needs to be kinda inspirational. Like I want people tearing up to this shit. I was thinking an Explosions in the sky song

how long is this "documentary" going to be and what kind of atmosphere do you want the music to give? e.g. Sleep is all trumpets and colourful yet with a tone of sadness or do you want violins and pianos to make it just dark and saddening?

And I dont know what atmosphere I want. Heres what it is: A journey of my Marching band from the beginning of the season to the end at Grand Nationals. Showing how much work we put in
oh then sleep is almost perfect for that let me just find another for you [editline]16th June 2011[/editline] Lift your skinny fists like antennas to the heaven is perfect for something like this but it's only 6 minutes

Things changed...you see. They don't sleep anymore on the beach.
And we used to sleep on the beach here, sleep overnight..they don't do that anymore. Things changed...you see. They don't sleep anymore on the beach.
Usually I find it silly when musicians use spoken word in their music, but GY!BE use it so damn well.
the ending of hung over as a queen in Maida is magical [editline]16th June 2011[/editline] also in sleep, it's about the old man dieing right?
Usually I find it silly when musicians use spoken word in their music, but GY!BE use it so damn well.
I think it can be used effectively. Many bands fuck it up, especially if switching between singing and spoken word. This is a great example. The Gorillaz - Fire Coming Out of the Monkey's Head

Another example I like is in The Velvet Underground's The Gift. I like how they put the music and the words on different sides of the headphones so if you just want to hear the story, or if you just want to hear the proto-punk jam, just take one ear off your headphones if you're using headphones.
Any good asain traditional sounding music?
Any good asain traditional sounding music?
check out from Japan, Goro Yamaguchi - Shakuhachi Music: A Bell Ringing in the Empty Sky. NASA included an excerpt from the album on the Voyager Golden Record which was sent into space and that's awesome.
Any good asain traditional sounding music?
For shits and giggles, listen to Silk Rd. by Grails.
Tv on the Radio Black Keys Just to start you off.
Any good asain traditional sounding music?
Dig into some Ravi Shankar. Some great stuff there unless you don't like psychedelic things.
I would tend to make a distinction between asian music (which I associate with the far east) and middle eastern music (which I associate Ravi Shankar with), but maybe that's just me
I would tend to make a distinction between asian music (which I associate with the far east) and middle eastern music (which I associate Ravi Shankar with), but maybe that's just me
Well there is a clear distinction, nothing wrong with that... but it's so damn difficult to know where to start. To any Chinese or Persian people, post a thread. Thanks.
Isn't Ravi Indian? I would call that asian music
Isn't Ravi Indian? I would call that asian music
Yeah but Sitar is pretty middle eastern oriented too. I dunno the classical music over there kind of all relates to each other. Not with China and beyond though.
Isn't Ravi Indian? I would call that asian music
There's much more similarity between middle eastern music and indian music than there is between indian music and far eastern music was what I meant
Well they're very different cultures so it makes sense. as compared to Yeah I need to get me some more of this stuff. :smugdog:
So I'm loving this really hypnotic repetitive pop stuff like Spacemen 3 and Stereolab, give me more. also, I'm dying for more music like Dinosaur Jr.'s "You're Living All Over Me". Sonic Youth and Yo La Tengo don't quite go in the direction I'm looking at though

Also check out Lou's other band, Sebadoh.
