In the future, everything will be inflatable? :geno:
Pffff, you're just blowing it out of proportion.
Why wouldn't it be a good idea?
Space monopolies, or worse: "Give us full mining rights of every moon in the solar system and every comet in the Oort Cloud, or we will accelerate the asteroid Eros in a trajectory that will cause it to hit Earth."
I'm not really sure if privatizing space is...good.
Boohoo corporations control everything. Boohoo the government controls everything. People will never take off their tinfoil hats, will they?
Space monopolies, or worse: "Give us full mining rights of every moon in the solar system and every comet in the Oort Cloud, or we will accelerate the asteroid Eros in a trajectory that will cause it to hit Earth."
relativistic kill vehicles are a terrifying concept D:
relativistic kill vehicles are a terrifying concept D:
It doesn't have to be relativistic, just throw any asteroid at 'em :c00l: EDIT: Yeah that should do the trick :ninja:
I'm not really sure if privatizing space is...good.
Well too bad. Stop complaining about how there's not enough progress in space then.
Saturn V is still the coolest rocket ever made. I hope someone builds something like that again some day. It's amazing to watch one of those things go up. I guess they might have to if someone intends on sending people back to the moon, or beyond.
NASA is still infinitely cooler than any private corporation.
NASA is still infinitely cooler than any private corporation.
for now, at least
Merging NASA and the our defense budget would be amazing. But with a corporate head in the NASA division, so that they could get things done
Good choice Obama :)
for now, at least
Then Musk takes over :buddy:
Another good decision, considering asteroids have a SHITFUCKLOAD of resources. The next step is convincing people that we can put them in Earth orbit without fucking shit up.
lol You're not a very realistic thinker
As long as NASA has a monopoly on space travel you won't see any major changes in science. The only problem with the privatization of space exploration is there is no way to govern it. It would become total anarchy once you leave the Earth's atmosphere.
It'd be like the Wild West, but in space.
I want to work on this project d:
Space monopolies, or worse: "Give us full mining rights of every moon in the solar system and every comet in the Oort Cloud, or we will accelerate the asteroid Eros in a trajectory that will cause it to hit Earth."
Space wars!! We can finally get those gigawatt lasers in space :clint: And if we're lucky some shipborne railguns that fire tungsten bb's at relativistic speeds. [editline]05:19PM[/editline]
lol You're not a very realistic thinker
Your average asteroid could supply all of earths mineral and ore needs for a year and then some.
there's laws against the weaponization of space [editline]04:22PM[/editline]
Your average asteroid could supply all of earths mineral and ore needs for a year and then some.
course, getting one into a stable orbit without using trillions in fuel and spacecraft that's a problem [editline]04:23PM[/editline]
And if we're lucky some shipborne railguns that fire tungsten bb's at relativistic speeds.
not fiscally realistic considering energy availability, especially in space
there's laws against the weaponization of space [editline]04:22PM[/editline] course, getting one into a stable orbit without using trillions in fuel and spacecraft that's a problem [editline]04:23PM[/editline] not fiscally realistic considering energy availability, especially in space
I'm sure when someone says give us what we want or else we'll plough haileys comet into your national capital I think that'll go out the window. And I already know about all the treaties and shit in the cold war signed to stop it and I know that Reagan tried to find out ways to do it and I know that the russians succeeded on paper at least. EDIT: Who needs a stable orbit, build a mass driver to launch the supplies onto the moon and then shuttle em back down in heat shielded boxes, billions saved in transport. Life support on the asteroid would be totally unneeded using drones. And not realistic building a powerful rail gun in space, where theres no atmosphere to slow down the shot and there's the solar winds? :raise:
Well this puts the whole situation in a much better light. The future is coming, and I'm alive for it. :buddy: ... Okay I'll never have the money for this, even if it gets cheaper. :smith:

Actually you could put yourself up for cryogenics experiments and get frozen for a while :v:
As I said in another thread, now we will finally see development in space technology. NASA had such a limited budget, and they didn't really have any good motivation. Private corporations will be motivated by space tourism and mining, and they aren't affected by budget cuts from stupid politicians. NASA's had very little improvement and actual space missions in over 40 years. Corporations will do in 5 years what NASA does in 20. Although I rarely trust corporations since they are often driven by greed, it's still better to see them taking us out to space than NASA.
Maybe if you eventually become an astrophysicist you might get a stop on some gamma ray observatory on Miranda ;) (Killing Star reference)
Miranda, are you kidding? I'd be tickled retarded if I got to live on the damn moon. Also I don't read those long-ass sci-fi books so I don't get the reference.
Imagine if there was no foreign conflict, think about how much shit we'd get done, we would already have moon colonies.
Imagine if there was no foreign conflict, think about how much shit we'd get done, we would already have moon colonies.
We wouldn't have the countless inventions foreign conflict has brought us.
there's laws against the weaponization of space
If someone was trying to weaponize space, I don't quiet think they'd care for laws anyway.
I still find it amazing that I'm going to see people visiting an asteroid when I'm in my twenties.
I still find it amazing that I'm going to see people visiting an asteroid when I'm in my twenties.
Are you 10?
Now all we need is Tony Stark to privatize world peace
