however I do live near a lot of fields so small game hunting may be an option.
30-06 might be too small for that, try 50bmg
Well can anyone recommend what power scope I should buy? And how much I should be paying for a half decent one? Also should I be looking to buy the .177 or .22 caliber?
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.8183 a tad crap but decent enough if you are a cheapskate http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.6378 mediocre tube, doesn't really get any better for that price http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.13010 i'd probably get this [editline]03:39PM[/editline]
well can anyone recommend what power scope i should buy? Cannot stress enough how much the scope matter, do NOT buy some cheap piece of crap. Some mid-range Hawke scope should do you nicely. On the rifles, if you want a cheap but decent springer, go for a BSA. Meteor is the classic starting one.
Webley make lovely rifles, always have! My Dad has his roughly 60 year old Webley Mark III in the garage and it still shoots remarkably well and very comfortably. http://www.micksguns.com/air%20guns.htm - About a third to a half way down here http://www.reviewcentre.com/reviews13759.html
I got me a mark II somewhere, had it serviced and now the barrel is almost too stiff to break.
So I think I'm going to get the Super-grade SMK XS19 Custom. I really appreciate all the links you guys sent me but most of those guns out way out of my budget and some are not available in the UK. I've settled for this gun because it has a very high power (just below the legal limit in fact), is well built and all reviews say it is brilliant. I'll probably get a 4x32 Mil-Dot Scope as this only costs about £20/£30. Thanks for the help guys! I really appreciate it :)
BSA Meteor mk7/mk6. Brilliant beginner rifle. Excellent value for money and a fantastic quality gun.
Really would steer away from the SMK and go for the Meteor above if you can.

What advantages do the BSA Meteor's have over SMK XS series?
Make sure you get a .177 and not a .22 if you are target shooting and not hunting.
What advantages do the BSA Meteor's have over SMK XS series?
Just about everything except price.
BSA guns will last forever. Such good build quality.
My first air gun was this: Daisy Powerline 880. Lasted a couple years... until the stock broke off. :raise: Now I have this: Crossman 2100B. It's awesome. They aren't break barrel but they're great. Pumping makes you more manly anyway. :smug:
Holy crap! I have those exact two rifles and I too would recommend those as well. I started with the 2100 first though. I personally prefer the Crossman mainly because it feels better constructed and I've been firing it for about 10 years now and it hasn't given me any problems. The Daisy is also a very good beginners rifle. It is a lot easier to load than the 2100 but feels light and has a ~35 bb capacity. I haven't owned any breakbarrels so I can't say much about them.
Get the "SMK Supergrade XS78". Mainly because it looks cool and was the first one I saw on the website.
Make sure you get a .177 and not a .22 if you are target shooting and not hunting.
Does the .22 have any disadvantages when it comes to target shooting?
The HW 35 Standard by Weihrauch. Costs about 300€, has an awesome trigger, German made, one of the best rifles out there.

I'll probably still go with the SMK to be honest, I know where to get them easily and all the reviews say they're really good which is fine for me. I'm only a beginner and don't want to go full out with my first (and possibly only) rifle.
http://www.webley.co.uk/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=10&Itemid=14 :D I myself have a TH78D, the annoying thing about it is having to change the CO2 Capsules every so often, and if it is quite cold, they don't work very well, i would go for a break barrel rather than a Co2.
Make sure you get a .177 and not a .22 if you are target shooting and not hunting.
How heavy it is matters more IMO.
I'm a beginner to this sport and am trying to decide which Air Rifle to buy. I live in the UK and have found a brand called SMK who make a wide range of AirGuns. However I'm having a tough time deciding which one to buy. I have a budget of anything up to about £170 (possibly even £200) but preferably less (around £100). The ones that caught my eye are the "SMK Custom B2" and the "SMK XS" series such as the "XS12, XS17, XS19 and XS20". Can anyone who has experience in this area recommend a well made and value for money beginner break barrel rifle, (primarily used for target practice though a high power would be appreciated) that would last a long time in good condition. I would also be interested in buying a good value telescopic scope (about 4x32 or higher) costing no more than £30 or £40 tops. So if anyone has any further recommendations please let me know. Thank you. Their website is - http://www.sportsmk.co.uk/
Real men shoot people with these as a sport. It can literally shoot a person.
Get a Diana Panther, I've had one since a couple of years and never had any problems with it.
I've got a Hatsan Mod 125. (Mine has no energy restriction, and I'm mostly using those pointy pellets.) There's nothing like the sound of your pellet breaking the sound barrier!
Anybody else noticed that this thread's a good few months old already?
I have a break barrel Crossman X-1000. Fookin' awesome. It was about $140, but I've only had it for a few weeks. Oh, and Beretta PX40 Air Pistol (chrono'd at ~350fps, both pellets and BBs)
If you are learning use the iron sights before moving on to scopes, if you use scopes at first you will be useless at using any other sights. [editline]03:20PM[/editline] Oh wait this is an old thread, I already posted in it :v:
Whatever you get, make sure it's cheap, and an AEG. You know, in case you decide you don't like the sport.
Whatever you get, make sure it's cheap, and an AEG. You know, in case you decide you don't like the sport.
Thread is old, and is about Air Rifles, not Airsoft.
My first air rifle was a BSA meteor mk 2, ive had it for about 2 years, even with quite a bit of usage, still as good as new!!
Get a Crossman 1077 Best Semi-auto pellet gun I have.
