A couple of weeks ago the word "brony" became word of the day on Urbandictionary. If you look it up note the phrase "[b]internet[/b] convo."

I think it's sad that people have gone to the point where the bronies are going all "I'm just casual, I just watch it... Not over the top or anything :<" As if the intensity of one's fanatism has any relevance. I think there's plenty of MLP fan idiots running about, sure. I also think it's completely fine that it's been banned from FP, that's for the staff to decide and what not. So then all the sensible ones left for Ponychan, while those who can live without talking about MLP all the time stayed, and a few straggling pony fans, who don't know how things work, stayed. The sensible ones shouldn't be a problem after they left, no matter what the fuck they do. Cosplay all day, upload tons of youtube videos about it? Why do you give a fuck? Those who don't want to discuss MLP all the time are people like me and MasterG, but we do so anyways because MLP gets brought up by random people all the time, and soon after it goes to shit. And the idiots can be banned. Shower them with dumbs, see them get banned and move the fuck on. I really kind of don't see how this works with the haters. I've seen two things, mainly. People who [I]"just can't see what's so good about it"[/I]. Sure, me neither. So what? No, I don't think any of the explanations that has been given are good at all. But whether it can be explained or not, it doesn't justify being overly hostile towards them. The other thing is that they feel that bronies go "too far" with the fandom, and shove it in their face. First point, why would you care how far they go with their fandom? It isn't your business at all. And they shove it in your face? No they don't. You're not forced by anyone to read, listen to or watch anything related to ponies. In the event that it does pops up on your screen without your consent, I think you're pretty much whining if you complain about it. I don't have a problem with people hating pony fans or ponies, I just hate the reasons for it. Also I agree with MasterG, either ban it fully or keep it condensed in one thread.

Yeah, I can see it can be annoying when they do it. But so annoying that you begin to hate the entire fandom and go completely rage mode every time it is mentioned? That's why I said I think it is whining to complain about it. Doesn't happen all that often, barring threads like these.

You can't deny that out of all the weird Internet subcultures there are at the moment, the Brony fandom is the most reprehensible of aggressively forcing their stuff on people. Anime? Outside of avatars, nothing. Furries? They avoid people, if anything. Steampunk fans? Nah. Airsoft/Paintball nuts? They stay in their own communities. "Hardcore" Gamers? They're forward about their opinions but they tend to not actually try and force shit. Bronies? They make it a hobby to contact people on their steam/skype/msn/whatever friends and show them MLP stuff, and they constantly talk about "converting" non-bronies. Saying that you don't like the show causes them to, instead of getting a hint that was being conveyed, start going on about how incredible it is and how the story is like the bile of angels. Maybe this wasn't your point, but if it was your point that brohnys keep to themselves, then can we please drop that charade because it's not true. Less than a week ago we had BWO Josh spamming pony image macros on this forum, for example, and while you could admittedly say "that's only one example" we both know there's more to it.

I know they talk about "converting" non-bronies, and I will admit that sounds kind of creepy, but I have really never heard of anyone really trying to convert them forcibly. I think when they get defensive, it's because someone was being offensive to them. What I mean by that is that this doesn't happen when you [I]"say that you don't like the show"[/I], it happens when you call them faggots and manchildren and whatever other insults. Like I've said before, I would love to see examples because it would truly change my mind. It wouldn't change my mind about the fandom, but it would change my mind about the people who are so hateful towards it. I can't say much about this whole conversion thing, I think that phenomenon is material for real studies on the human psyche. I don't think it's anything that we can just assume is either "a creepy fetish" or as I would think, a defense reaction towards haters + a desire to share the "girly things can be awesome!"-feeling they experienced from watching it. I'm not sure what to make of that, and neither do I have any idea why it happens. Maybe it's because the feeling they got when an inexistant group of people, gathered around the most unlikely thing of all things, suddenly burst into a huge group, they got blood on their teeth, and now they like the idea of spreading? Still, I don't think it justifies being so hateful and insulting, but I can certainly see why it could be seen as annoying to outsiders who want nothing to do with it. But really, it's not like it's actually going to change the world like people seem to imply, just because it spreads and pops up in many unlikely places. It's going to go away eventually, and it's just ponies for gods sake.

I've gotten my friends into the show, but it was completely by accident.. :saddowns: Pretty much they asked if I watched any new shows, and I mentioned it and linked them an episode (I do that with any show I watch). It was never brought up again, until I went over to their houses and they had every episode of the show.... my god, what have I done, I'm a monster! :suicide:

But I still disagree. As MasterG says, they don't really mean "convert" as you'd normally mean it. Of course, I don't know, but I really doubt that they're actually trying to force people to do it. If they are, I'll still stand by my original point, which is that even if they are being the most obnoxious people in the world, you shouldn't get so worked up over it, just ignore it and they'll eventually disappear. But yeap, I can see why they're annoying. If they'll bring it up unprovokedly, after you've told them you won't give it a chance, then I can see why you'd be annoyed. It's just that most of the time here on Facepunch, it's not the bronies that bring it up to begin with. Nyah, I dunno what I'm arguing about anymore.
