Still not sure why some people are insecure enough to let the vocal part of its fanbase affect them so strongly. If you're not gonna act like an obsessed dumbass about it, you have nothing to worry about. Those who are obsessed with anime and/or act like complete idiots about it are just retards by nature; anime didn't turn them into it. If these people weren't nagging you loudly about their favorite anime characters they would find something else to pester you about like sports, movies, video games, art etc. Some people are just like that.
If anime obsession seems worse than other obsessions it's because the tension around the topic (again, foreign culture entering ours is bound to cause some disturbance). However, a lot of the "normal" people you meet every day have watched anime or watches it regularly, they just don't speak much about it because they are, well, normal people.
I don't like anime personaly but I do not hate anyone who does.

Not really, 4Kids only licenses the ones that are very VERY popular like one peice and naruto (both shitty animes too).
there are more licensing companys that license series. for example ADV films, Funimation, Bandai Ent., Etc.

Don't like the art style. Don't like the voices. Don't like having to constantly read.
But most of all I hate the fanbase. I could seriously strangle anyone who uses anime emote faces in chat.
The problem with anime is that the majority of 'haters' see either a clip of Lucky Star* [tab]*A generally bad anime, I cannot understand what is cute about it. It's also filled with references only 'seasoned' anime watchers will get[/tab] or another clip that makes no sense out of context.
I used to hate anime over the most stupid reasons, back when YouTube first got HD I was linked to a HD OP of 'Spice and The Wolf' or whatever its called.
For that OP alone, I started hating anime.
I then realized that all OPs are like that, over-exaggerated things showing all of the characters, even ones which do not even show up in that episode set to 'J-POP' or 'J-ROCK'.
I started watching it again, for some reason I never understood why I hated it.
It has a simple animation style, and stylized character designs.
If you say you hate the character design, how do you put up with ordinary cartoons, or games like Team Fortress 2?
TF2 and American cartoons both have stylized character designs, yet you put up with them.
Is it because they are American?
Can't you be bothered to read subtitles, and so hate Japanese cartoons because they don't speak English?
You really should not watch dubs unless they are called 'good' by various people, if you are judging anime based on a few Saturday morning kids cartoons then you have not seen enough anime to make a valid opinion.
If all you've seen of anime is Naruto, Pokemon, OnePiece, Lucky Star(Which I don't think is broadcast on TV in America anyway) and other populist bullshit you need to try some other shows, ones not seen mainly on Cartoon Network/Toonami.
Whats hypocritical about it all is that as a kid you probably enjoyed Pokemon, you just never knew it were a anime and just thought it was a fun show.
In fact, if you still were a kid you would probably like Naruto and other such shows.
Don't watch shows for kids.
The first anime I tried after hating it for a while was Code Geass, it was generally stupid, narmy, melodramatic tat but it was [b]fun[/b] to watch.

Despite claiming that I will never watch it (Because I'm a pussy), if you want proof that anime can be 'mature' try Neon Genesis Evangelion.
It has big robots and all but at its heart its really about the psychological turmoil of a bunch of kids who pilot said mechs, and their eventual descent into madness.
Also you should try Cowboy Bebop and a few others.
It's worth pointing out that both Cowboy Bebop and NGE are being adapted into live action, though the latter has been in development hell for a while, the Bebop movie is apparently being made.
I don't know, people will probably just counter this post with another stupid argument, I don't even know why I bothered writing the above post.
