I used to hate anime, mainly because i had only ever seen the shit stuff (yugi oh, pokimon, that wone with cards and crap.) and they really annoyed the fuck outta me. MY god, the voices. like nails in a cat in a shredder.
But reacently, some mates of mine convinced me to watch a couple of films, namley spirited away and something else that i cannot spell or pronounce. They where actually quite good storys, few of the characters made me want to punch stuff, and at no point was anyone raped my a tentical kitten.
and that is the storyof how i was cured of my hatred.

in my opinion Anime is a generic term to mean Asian animations.
I've seen some shit ones and some good ones.

To be honest, european animation is much better, france in particular.
One particular gem, belleville rendez vous, is definatly worth seeing. It has next to no dialouge, and the art style is brilliant. Its about a guy who gets kidnapped while taking part in the tour-de-france, and his grandmothers efforts to find him.

Well, that's the thing: most anime fans don't obsess over it. It's the small percentage who do that kill the image.
Studio Ghibli films and stuff like Akira and Ghost In The Shell is awesome
Basically anime films are good, but TV episodic series' are just meh

Seeing as the average Japanese animator earns 3$ an hour it's no surprise.

Watched Princess Mononoke just now.
Just as predicted it was just another childrens movie by Studio Ghible with massive ammounts of their slime fetish, spiritual shit and love.
"Oh but excuse me sir, but it had guns, decapitations and blood'n shit. How could it possibly be a childrens movie?". Violence and gore doesn't instantly equal adult. And there was abslutely nothing about the plot or story that wasn't on a childrens movie level, it just simply added some gore to it. Instead of seeing Tom and Jerry being squished like meatballs they actually loose body parts, that's all there is to it.
I'm unsure what I think. One part of me says it's a clear 7/10, meaning it wasn't anything particularily special but it kept me entertained for the most part of it. The other part says it's a 8/10, meaning it did better than most things out there and entertained me pretty much all the time. And it didn't really entertain me all the time, it had some parts where logic was damned to hell (The ending, getting the head, do I need to say more?).
Aeahahhh... I guess I'll say 8/10, but it's a 8 minus.
Now the problem with this thread is the OP's favourite anime.
